View Full Version : couldn't handle the lithotripsy

I had lithotripsy today - sound waves to break up a very large kidney stone right over my ureter. Because of my fibromyalgia I find lying on my stomach really painful, plus my horrid kidney stent was digging in me like a knife. The lithotripsy machine was pushed very hard against my sore kidney which was excruciating before it was even turned on. After a while I had to ask them to stop because of the pain - they had only given me two Tramadol beforehand.

Now I still have the awful stent in (it's driving my IC crackers) & the next time the hospital hire the lithotripsy machine won't be for a month, although I've been promised better pain relief. I'm thinking of asking for surgical removal of the stone. Has anyone had this done please?

I had lithotripsy done but with general anesthesia! Certainly not with two Ultram. Yikes!

Hugs and best wishes,

Thanks Babs. I think anaesthetic would have been the answer & hope you're OK now. The technician kept getting really cross with me, especially because I was breathing so quickly - I couldn't take deep breaths with the enormous weight on my kidney. I told her I might need the toilet because of IC & she told me I'd have to 'hold on'.

Holy smokes! I don't know how you made it as long as you did. I woke up bruised and sore and can't imagine what it would have been like awake. Hopefully they will give you something the next time.

Hugs,

I was just told I have a calcification on my Uretha. The doctor said it is extremely rare. Guess it's not that rare if you guys are going through the same thing.
