Does anyone know if the IVP test would show urethral diverticulum? I've recently read the IC book and it mentions a special x-ray test, but it doesn't say what kind. Would it be different than the IVP? I've also read about cystecoele and rectocoele. What tests are used to diagnose these?

I had a urethral diverticulum removed 7 years ago. I noticed a bulge in my vagina. My uro spread my urethral opening a little and saw inflammation inside. That is how mine was diagnoised

I was tested in 1996 for urethral diverticulitis. It wasn't a painful x-ray just very difficult for me. They filled my bladder with water and then taped this bag like thing to my legs. Then I had to stand up in front of the x-ray machine and pee - standing up eek . Okay, being female and peeing standing up is hard enough but knowing you have a technician watching you, HAH! I had to tell the tech when I was urinating and she then took the x-ray. We both just stood there for about 20 minutes and nothing happened. She went to ask her supervisor what to do. He said to give me another 30 minutes. My bladder was full and felt like it was about to burst but we finally got some pictures. The IVP was a completely different procedure to make sure there was nothing wrong with my kidneys. I've racked my brain but I can't remember the name of the diverticulum x-ray.
Wishing you good days,
Lisa hi

Hello,
I'm having surgery to correct a urethral diverticulum, can anyone give me insight on the recovery process?
Thanks

I hope we hear from others about this soon because it's possible that I have it too. Good luck with your surgery, mb1123.
I called my urologist today because my gynecologist examined me and thinks this might be my problem. So the urologist called me back just a little while ago and rescheduled my appointment for May 4th. I had one May 25th. They said they would give me something for the pain. I feel like I have a lite match in there somewhere. More burny since the gyn did the exam.

Today I went to see the urologist and he examined me. He says I don't have a diverticulum. When he did the vaginal exam he said that when he pressed behind the urethra if it hurt, I would have hit the ceiling in pain. So I told him to go in further and press upwards and that's when it started to burn. He says that location was at the base of the bladder.
I'll have more news in different postings.

Both cystocele and rectocele are diagnosed by vaginal examination.

Lisa35, what you had done sounds like a VCUG (Voiding Cystourethrogram). I hate them, I think they are the worst tests ever and should be banned lol. Lucky for me though I had two catheter bags (a suprapubic and a umbilical cath) so I didn't have to stand and pee.

Hello Blueblondie1121,
I was wondering how long did it take for you to recover after the surgery. I had surgery on May 4th and have had 3 voiding xrays. The last being today and I'm still not healed.
I searched the internet and there is not much info regarding recorvery, I know everyone is different. But I'm getting nervous.
Thanks

MB1123, I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE IT DONE. DOC SAID I WOULD KEEP HAVING PROBLEMS. AT LEAST I DIDN'T HAVE TO GO THRU THOSE NASTY TESTS. MINE WAS SO BAD HE COULD'T HELP BUT SEE IT DURING EXAM. FOR ME RECOVERY WAS LONG. OUT OF WORK 6-8 WKS. HAD THAT NASTY BAG ON YOU KNOW. WHEN IT CAME OFF,COULD'NT HOLD MY PEE. I WAS SO UPSET. JUST PEEING EVERYWHERE.HE SAID MINE WAS SO BAD THE URETHRAL WAS DAMAGED,WEAK. IT'S AWFUL. IT HAS GOTTEN BETTER SOMEWHAT. I WONDER IF IC CAUSES THEM? HOPE THIS INFRO HELPS. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. AND HOPE YOU DO A LOT BETTER THAN ME. BLUEBLONDIE1121:butterfly
