Debbie, I am so very sorry for all that you have to endure. Maybe going to Wake Forest will be good and hopefully they will come up with something that your other uros have not tried or thought of. It never hurts to get another opinion especially when you are in the state that you are in now. I am keeping you in my thoughts. Hugs, Judith

Since I am not Debbie, clearly I can not give you the specifics of what caused her infection, but the infection she refers to, MRSA, I am quite familiar with, being a health professional. I copy/pasted a link here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735/DSECTION=1 and will say it used to mostly be only common in hospitals, people who spent long periods of time in hospital, esp after surgery or whatnot, on antibiotics....you still do see that (too much, actually), but it is now more and more common to see a community aquired type also. Last month's Readers Digest had an article about "deadly super bugs" and that is what it was about. But chances are, if someone is a patient who has had surgery and spent time in hospitals, they likely got it there.....you tend to end up on long courses of IV antibiotics (the "big guns", Vancomycin, which is also becoming resistent too in some cases) and you, like Debbie mentioned, typically become a "carrier", or "colonized". It's very scary stuff.

Debbie, I am so sorry you are going through this. Hang in there, I have seen people with really, really bad staph who have gotten better.......honest! Even if you become a 'carrier', it tends to lay dormant.....it seems you are getting good care.

Lots of warm **hugs** your way!:grouphug:

Just said a prayer for you to get better!!! I know others who had this terrible staph and they are okay now so I hope you get well soon. I have a friend who is a nurse, and she was in the hospital to have the tail of her pancreas removed and she contracted staph too. She said that some of the nurses are not being careful enough with washing etc... One of them actually threw the ice pack for her wound on the floor to crush it, and my friend asked her if she was crazy, and not to touch her with that or anything else!!! Jill posted a thread on this recently. Get well soon.
