I have just joined the list and would like to give you a little of my history and ask some questions.

I had a bad bout of cystitis 15 years ago after catheterisation post hysterectomy for fibroids. It took hefty doses of amoxycillin to clear it up but after it went I was free from all UTIs until two weeks ago when I underwent a rigid sigmoidoscopy. After this procedure the registrar helpfully wiped me from "back to front". As I have religiously always cleaned my perineal region after bms for 15 years I was not impressed to say the least!

The next day I felt some necessity to urinate more frequently than usual and immediately upped my fluid intake and took some bicarb. I went on holiday that day and on the following Tuesday visited a GP in my holiday town who gave a five day course of Trimethoprim.

Symptoms of frequency continued with some mild cramping over the pubic area but at no time has there been burning or blood in the urine.

Upon my return home I submitted a MSU to my GP although I was still taking the Trimethoprim at the time. This came back clear of infection. Last Wednesday I visited the doc again and the lady doctor did a MSU test in the surgery and then sent the sample in to the lab. She also took a vaginal swab. Both these came back clear yesterday.

I still want to pee more frequently than normal but still no burning or blood. I feel well in myself and full of energy. My question is this: Could the sigmoidoscopy procedure have somehow "jiggled" the bladder and urethra so that they are now on high alert? If so, I suppose it will just take time to settle them down. Or are the symptoms in any way typical of IC and, if so, why has it arisen now?

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this as you have a collective experience of bladder problems that no-one I know possesses!!

Best wishes to you all.

Pauline

It sounds like you may have had a bladder infection. If the frequency doesn't go away within a week or two, I think it would be a good idea to go back to your doctor for help. It's pretty soon after onset of an infection to suspect interstitial cystitis.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Let me add another :welcome: to you. I also think it would be a good idea to check to see if this is an infection. I hope you start to feel better very soon.

Thanks to those of you who have replied so promptly to my query. I have had two urine samples come back negative for all infection from the lab.

The strange thing is that yesterday I was a whole lot better for several hours. No visits to the loo for five and six hours at a time - the best I have been for weeks. Then, last night I was up three times again for my tetchy old bladder. Has anyone thoughts on the query as to whether the sig could have had a bearing on this situation?

Good luck to you all.

Pauline
