i've had IC for as long as i can remember, probably about 26 years since my first bladder infection! but now i have this horrible urethral pain after sex. i get this sharp, shooting pain toward the end of sex, then excruciating pain while trying to urinate thereafter and for a few days. it feels like a horrible bladder infection but i took a dose of antibiotics, and it came back the next time i tried sex. does anyone else have this???

I used to have urethral troubles after sex, I know exactly what you are talking about, unfortunately, lol ;) If I had a chance I'd use some AZO or Uristat (OTC Pyridium) before we'd have sex - if not, I'd take it right after it seemed to numb that nicely, lol - but we discovered the humor of the fact it's not urine it turns orange, :). Also we used/use lots of personal lubricant - that helped me out so much, as it reduced the friction in the urethral area for me, and could make a huge impact on how I felt during and after! :)

thanks traceann, you made my whole night and gave me a few chuckles!!:smile tee i also used the uristat afterward, and i'll try the lubricant. it seems to happen in the same position, so i'm hoping a different one will help.

You're welcome!!! :) Yep, the lubricant really can make a huge a difference, we used/use whether I think I need it or not! ;) And yeah, I can't imagine why it never occurred to me that other things would be orange as well...lol!!!
Right now, only moderators can have a photo, sorry! :) :)

Wouldn't hurt to try. I know for me, the more lubrication, the better.

What a bummer! I just spent the last 2 days looking at lubes in 6 or 7 stores to try to find one w/o glycerin. Finally, I found a silicone one. I haven't tried sex yet, kind of in the fear mode about it.

Be careful with the Silicone. I had a terrible time after using one.
The doctor told me about Astro-glide seems like a lot of us on here use that one.
Good Luck!

LOL, no problem. I just wish I could access the dark recesses of my mind and remember where I saw the stuff (I was looking for the same thing at one point), if I do, I let you know! ;)
