Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with IC about a month ago. I have been dealing with what I thought was UTI's for the last 10 years, and was misdiagnosed by 8 different healthcare providers. I finally found a Uro-Gynecologist and I'm sure glad I did! I have had much success since I saw him. I was in so much pain the day of my first appointment, that he did an instillation in the office. Unfortunately it just didn't do much for me, so I have opted not to do that again. It only lasted a few hours and I don't want to have to deal with the catheter over and over. It wasn't pleasant. Anyway, he prescribed me Hydroxyzine and Macrodantin while I was there. I take the Hydroxyzine twice a day and the antibiotic once before bedtime. He didn't prescribe me anything for pain, so I contacted him several days later, and he put me on Neurontin 300 mgs 3 times a day. My only complaint is it makes me so drowzy sometimes that I feel like I could just pass out. It makes me feel like I am on drugs! Other than that, I have been pretty much symptom free ever since, so I think I can deal with being sleepy. I have had a couple of days here and there when I felt something, but overall I am doing great. I even forget I have it some days! :woohoo: I guess I would be considered as having mild IC compared to some of you out there, but I would say my pain is at a 10 when I am flaring. It's just miserable. My only concern is that I am 35 and my husband and I were planning to start having children soon. From what I understand, I cannot be on these med's while I am pregnant, so I am so worried about having flares. What can they give you during pregnancy to control the symptoms and pain? I just couldn't live with myself if I knew I took something that would cause my child ay harm. My follow up visit is tomorrow, so I need to talk to my doc about that. Has anyone else had success on Nuerton and Hydroxyzine? Thanks!

Hey there! Glad to hear you are doing so well!! That's always nice to see ;)

I take hydroxyzine, (I used to take that, Elmiron and Ditropan, and now just on the hydroxy) and to me that was the med that when it was added in, seemed to speed things up, lol. Now, could be total coincidence for me, but it really seemed to do a good job, lol. I haven't taken the Neurontin at all, but I am sure those who have will chime in on that one.

My hubby and I were planning on starting to try for a baby this fall, and my doc told me my hydroxyzine has got to go. Ugh. But, I gotta do what I gotta do I guess... I am going to chat with her this Friday and find out if it's one I have to have been off for awhile or if I can drop it right when we start trying :)
