My uro doesn't think I have IC but he thinks I have PFD. I tend to agree with him. Caffeine is really the only food/drink that seems to affect my urgency and frequency adversely, and there's no blood in my urine.
He's decided to put me on meloxicam which he told me is an anti-inflammatory. he wants me to take one tablet a day for thirty days and see if this helps.
I did some research and found out that it's actually an arthritis medication and he's prescribed me the largest dose! That seems a little like overkill.
Any of you had any experience with this med? It's also known as Mobic.
I took it probably five years ago and it didn't help with my pain, but the pain was severe. It could help you. I wasn't afraid to take it because my IC/PFD doesn't seem to be sensitive to foods/chemical/meds. It can be a little hard on the stomach. Just because it is an older drug doesn't mean it isn't a good one. It is anti-inflammatory med in a different class than Vioxx. I took Vioxx and it only helped the pain in my leg/hip muscles.
Guess I am not much help. As for it being over kill -- stopping the pain/urgency/frequency cycle before it becomes chronic is a top priority. The longer one waits to break the cycle the harder it is to get well. Boy do I wish I would have known that seven years ago with my first symptoms of pelvic pain!!!! There is medical science to back up this theory. Mobic is not an opiod or in the severe. It might help you to sit down and do a risk versus benefit analysis. If the side effects become to bad you can stop taking it.

I was Rxd mobic last year after I twisted my back...for inflammation. I don't know how much good it did for that, but I took it twice a day for about 10 days. Don't know how it affected my IC. No bad effects anyway. Sorry I can't be more help.

Well I've only taken one dose and it did seem to make me feel better, but then I got diarrhea and later that night started feeling all spaced out and weird. It only lasted a few hours but it was pretty disconcerting.
I'm going to call my uro today and see if it's really necessary for me to be taking the absolute strongest dose and if the side effects ever go away.
