Quick question,
I was put on Macrobid yesterday for a UTI, doc said there was some bacteria in my culture and my bladder feels worse than it did before I started. I have only taken 2 pills but shouldn't I be feeling better instead of worse??

Macrobid makes me sick. I always feel worse when taking that antibiotic. I usually take cipro or levaquin. I usually start to feel better after a day of antibiotics... not fully recovered but able to work. I got a uti on friday last week and I still cant shake it. I might have to call my uro. Hope u get some relief... I feel your pain.

So Macrobid makes your IC symptoms worse?

it makes me nauseous and doesn't get rid of my uti. For some odd reason. I was on macrobid for like a week and it my uti was still there. I'm not sure why. but the pain with my uti's is unbearable. Constant buring and peeing ever 5 mins and drops come out.

Yep, that's me! All of those symptoms, I'm ready to lose my mind! However I don't think that I have an infection. Sometimes they say there is bacteria and no infection, this time they are saying "MAYBE" it is an infection. GRRRRRR!

Jenny76,
Did they tell you what type of bacteria you have?? If you have a bacteria that does not respond to Macrobid, then maybe that's why its not working or you may not have a strong enough dose. For example, if you have enterococcus, too low of a dose will make it grow.

Jenny,
You will have to call or see your doctor (personally I would try to see him/her face to face). Ask what type of bacteria was found in the culture. You have a right to know & to see the lab report. If the doctor won't show you, try to get an assistant or nurse to show you your file. You should also ask if an antibiotic sensitivity test was done. Don't let your doctor get away with just throwing some drugs at you. Insist on knowing what you have, & if Macrobid isn't working or is making you sick, insist on something else.
Good luck :-)
