I had a colonoscopy today and have been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I have had IC since March 2006. Does anyone else have this as well as IC? If so, what treatments work for you?

I do. I have a mild form of UC that is pretty well limited to the rectum. I was doing ok on Colazal, Cortifoam and Librax, but went into a flare (or a progression of my UC) last spring and struggled all summer without much progress. I began passing blood once again in August and had to do a course of Prednisone. I just finished weaning off of it. The bleeding has stopped, so I guess that's better. I really have to watch what I eat, however. I can no longer tolerate dairy products, uncooked or very fibrous vegetables (including salads) and high-fiber or multi-grain foods. That wiped out many of the foods I enjoyed that are IC-friendly (ice cream, milk, puddings, fresh salads, all cheeses, all raw or just lightly steamed veggies, etc). I have also gone off Elmiron because it can cause rectal bleeding. I will stay off for another month now that the bleeding has stopped and then will try going back on Elmiron. If the bleeding begins again, I will know Elmiron is irritating and causing problems for my UC.
I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with UC, too! Dealing with UC on top of IC is quite a challenge. Hope you quickly find medications that work for you!
Sending gentle and understanding hugs to you! :grouphug:

Sorry to hear about your UC diagnosis. I had Ulcerative Colitis...till I had my colon removed. Now I have ulcerative pouchits.
So far I have responded to VSL#3, asacol, antibiotics, and occassional steroid use but I am far from symptom free and struggle to get doctors to treat a patient as unique as me.
I take plenty of other things for what I consider the IBS part of it as well.

I had one humongous case of U.C. 8 years ago but acupuncture, Chinese medicine and Asacol have been my salvation.

I had Ulcerative Colitis as a child. I was 12 when I was diagnosed. Things calmed down a bit and then it was IBS. When I was 32 I was diagnosed with Celiac. Honestly, I think it was the Celiac that caused the Ulcerative Colititis and I think the undiagnosed celiac might have caused my bladder to have problems. From there I had a Urothrodomy which caused more problems.
Just my opinion.
