I just realized that the 2 large gum balls I chew on every day after lunch have been causing me frequency. I think I'm addicted to sugar so if I have to give it up, it will be very difficult. Maybe it's the artificial coloring in the gum? Anyone?

It very well could be the artificial colors. Ive noticed that many people here are more sensitive to anything artificial whether it be colors, flavorings, or sugars. I was a die hard Diet Coke fanatic, drinking 3-5 a day and did so for several years and Im sure it is what caused my IC to start with. The sad thing is my urologist at the time never ever told me that diet had any part of IC, so it wasnt until I came here that I put the two things together. It just never occured to me that anything about diet could affect what happened with my bladder. (Now that I think about it, I feel really stupid). I was eating lots and lots of tomato products as well, drinking orange juice, eating acidic fruits.. etc.. I swear its amazing I have any bladder left at all.
Now that Ive been on the IC diet for 5 weeks I am slowly seeing improvments. My frequency is down, and I dont hurt all the time, just when I actually am voiding and if I have to do alot of walking.
Boy I got off topic didnt I? Im sorry, I guess what Im trying to say is you may need to stop the gum for now and see if the artificial color is indeed irritating you.

Could be artificial color or citric acid in them as a preservative...
