I was wondering how much these cost without insurance. I would like to try them but if they are too expensive they are out of the question. Thanks

No clue, you'd have to call each individual pharmacy and ask them. They all vary depending on the supplier. Sorry.
With insurance if I get 48 supps I pay about 35 bucks, so they aren't cheap. For 60 I pay 50.

I had a thought...you can probably smell the smoke! :loco: Anyway, do you have any sort of program that will help you get a one or two time help with RX's? We have that here in Charlotte and twice a year they will give you up to 100 dollars toward your RX's, whether you have insurance or not. If you do they pay the copays, if you don't they will pay for the cost of the med. I would check with social services or something like that so see if a program exists. You never know. I had no idea there was such a thing like that til I started searching the blue pages of the phone book in the local section ---I felt like I'd hit the jackpot when they said yes. That was after I'd had to quit working and was getting really sick.
I hope you are able to get them...they are a big help.

I have been on them for sometime.. but I have medicaid..
But I am not sure for exactly but I do not think they were that cheap.. best idea is call the pharmacy and ask them..There is 2 different strengths so get the price for both... I take the highest dose but I have a very extreemly high tolorance to meds ... also you will have to look around and find a pharmacy that carries them because they do not really use this med anymore so they usually have to order it in.. so like I said call around.. it is a good med as long as it will work for you.. it is awsome for the spasms.. good luck and if you need more questions answered just let me know ...
Good luck

Hi! Are you are talking about Opium/Bella Donna Suppositories? If so, I had some and with insurance they were about $20 for about a two week supply. Unfortunately, they never worked for my main problem urgency but sure do make you feel high as a kite. I think if your main problem is pain you would get relief. Hope that answers your question.

Like the other post said, do call to make sure your pharmacy has these in stock. I had to call about five different pharmacies before I found one that carried them.

There are several other options hdb to try, from your med list below. That is such a high step to take without trying other anti spasm- pain combo meds first. I know they are pricey. I had a weeks worth when I had my hysterectomy and my insurance wouldn't cover them do to other meds used and I paid out the butt for them.

I get 60 a month and my info shows how much I saved using my insurance. They are almost $500.00 for 60. I pay $5.00. And this is for generic! I made a mistake and forgot to mark generic okay and they ordered the non-generic. I had to pay the limit on my co-pay which is $75.00. I didn't even look to see how much they were without insurance. I should have made them send them back, but it was my mistake, even though I had been going there for years and always ordered the generic if available.
I would definitely try other meds before using these, especially if you don't have insurance. I find these mainly help me with urethra spasms and pain. It dosen't really help my freq/urg.

I've used vesicare and detrol. I used to take xanax for panic attacks and now that I look back I don;t think my flares were nearly as bad. I didn't know they were used for spasms. They are pretty cheap too. Dancemom: do you think Dr.Z would be comfortable putting me on those since they seemed to work and are cheap?

I see some postings about B & O supp making people feel "high". I have never gotten a high from them. They just make the pain go away faster. It is so strange that some meds I have the extreme when it comes to side effects and others that I hear people say really make them feel strange or whatever, I don't have the problems. Just shows how unique we all are! When I read posts about people taking atarax or valium and can't get up the next morning. I can literally take it and and never even get tired. They work as for the pain and spasms, but not to help me sleep.
Guess I am an oddball! Tracey

hdb, not sure, I hav enever had to go that route with him. I do use the Elavil and have super luck and I have the hydrozine that I use only when I flare. Maybe a sit down heart to heart and bring this list and discuss these other meds may help.

What other anti spasm meds are there?
Hi hdb1982,
I read about Soma shortly after I was dx and asked my Dr. for them. We tried the compound (mix with tylenol) but ended up with the 350 mg(?) of just Soma. It works GREAT for me but the Dr's are not thrilled with this med either. I have gone off it 2 times in the past 7 years but always end up going back because it is the only thing that stops or mellows the spasms. I have proved to them that I am not having a problem with them because they last me much longer than they should. I use them for Break thru meds. There are many days that I don't take any and then other days when I take all 4 that I am allowed a day.
It might be worth asking about but as I said "my Dr. is not thrilled but he will perscribe it for me **thank God**
Good luck.

Hi Katjonez...I guess this is a dumb question since you said that your soma doesn't have Tylenol in it, but I was told to not take any extra Tylenol because I am on Soma. That was the only concern with my doctor. I am like you. I don't take it 4 times daily. I normally just take it in the late afternoon and right before bed.
It certainly doesn't help with my pain unless I am on pain meds, but it definitely helps me relax and helps me empty my bladder.

Hi there,
I remember they called it Soma compound so it may have been mixed with something else like asprin (?) but nobody told me not to take tylenol with my Soma. matter of fact I have taken them both at the same time !!
Did your Dr. say why ??

Soma is a muslce relaxant, the other name for it is carisoprodol. In some states it is a controlled substance.

NSAIDs (eg, ibuprofen) because they may decrease Soma Compound 's effectiveness.
Sorry, it's ibuprofen not Tylenol. I don't need to take Tylenol because of my Lortab. (I just don't take anything unless my doctor prescribes it or says it's okay even vitamin wise.) I have my liver tested every few months since I am on these meds and so far, no problems at all. When I don't take the combination of meds that I am on, I don't sleep well and some of the symptoms of IC are just worse. I hate taking anything. When I was a kid, I was one of those that ran when my mom came near me with anything. Plus, when I count up how much money I spend on meds and doctors appts (even though I have great insurance) I could do alot with that money. But on the other hand, with my interstim and my meds, I have a pretty normal life when I am not flaring. Which I only have a flare about 2 times a year since my interstim. I still have pain, but nothing that isn't managable! Before my interstim and finally the right combo of meds (for now...knock on wood) I am able to work and enjoy my friends and family.
That's the best we can hope for!

Tracey,
Me too, between the Interstim and the right med combo I am somewhat human most days anyway. I know the stim isn't for everyone but it was the straw that broke my IC's back finally to some point.

I am glad to hear other people that have success! I hoped that I wouldn't need as many meds, but when I think back to before I had the interstim, I was in constant agony even on my pain meds and feeling the freq/urg every few minutes. It was absolutely tearing me apart. I couldn't go anywhere but to work and not stay there for long and then go home and get back into bed. That was my life for almost 2 years. My IC was pretty much under control until I had a huge flare in 99, then my life did a total flip. After my surgery and staying home for a while, I was able to get back into my life.
I was looking at cruise packages. You have given me the bug big time! We had been talking about it, but now I may make my own reservations! My anniversary isn't until June, so that is a long wait!

Why not? It works really well as a muscle relaxer for me with very few if any side effects. It's GREAT for fibro muscle spasms and bladder spasms. I'm just wondering what you've heard bad about it that makes you not want to try it. I swear by the stuff and it's one of those meds I just hate to run out of, not because it causes withdrawl, but because it works so well for me.
I did get a little woozy for the first week or two that I took it but after that it just did what it was supposed to do.

That is how Soma started with me. I have a Santa Clause collection in my den and I remember when I first started taking them, I swear the Santas were moving. But after a couple of days, I was doing great. I swear by them myself. I am so grateful that the med combination (lacking the B&O supp) is working.
Sandy, I forgot to ask...How is your ear doing?

My ear sucks...sorry to be so blunt. These drops have left me feeling like something is stuck in my ear and it really hurts. I am thinking I need an oral antibiotic too and really was wondering why he didn't give it to me as well as the drops then?! I didn't ask because the drops ARE a steroid AND an antibiotic, figured go right to the source, but it's no better and it might be a little worse. The shooting pains are the worst, the echos in my head/ear stink and the pain, well you know the pain isn't fun and I dont need ANY new pain! Thanks for asking! LOL :)

I have never had an earache to the point of needing meds, but both my sons especially my younger one did, especially from infancy to preschool. I had the hardest time putting his drops in, so I am sure it must hurt. I can remember almost hogtying him to give him his meds. The poor kid was on Tylonel Supp (never knew there was such a thing) ear drops and oral meds. He would hold his butt and his ears, cause he didn't know what was coming. I am so glad that they got out of that stage. I hope it gets better soon!
