I have been taking Elavil for about 2-3 months. Recently, my blood pressure has sky rocketed to on average 160/105. Has anyone had this reaction to Elavil or Elmiron. I am wondering what has caused this.

My blood pressure went up and I have had other say that the Elavil did it to them too. I actually found out because I was retaining a ton of water in my one ankel and knew something was up. Luckily Sandy was around and told me to go to the dr which I did and he said my blood pressure had been high the last two times I was there (both were after I started the Elavil) and they never mentioned it. It was high the third time too so they put me on blood pressure meds. I actually think I need to go back and get the dose upped because I'm starting to get some water retention again in the same darn ankel! I can't remember what my blood pressure was but prior to this it was always normal even when I was pregnant and the size of a house.

I can't take elavil. It shot my blood pressure to over 200/110 in only a few days.

I am just like Donna. My blood pressure went up to 210/174 and I had chest pains. Never again for me.

I've had no problems with my blood pressure changing since I started Elavil. In fact, I went to the docs last week and it was 100/60--very average for me even though it's on the low side.

Yes, my blood pressure has gone up to "first level hypertension". I'm trying to see if I can control it with diet and exercise. We'll see whether my doctors go for that of take me off the Elavil! I'm keeping my fingers crossed they won't. Elavil is my life preserver...

My blood pressure went up, but it was also because of the weight gain elavil caused..

My GP's first instinct was to put me on a water pill. I about looked at him cross eyed! I said, hi, I'm the one with IC over here, don't want to go to the bathroom more. He said, oh that's one of your symptoms some just have pain. I said, I have both, please no water pill and that's when he put me on the lisinopril. I have an appointment tomorrow night at 7pm to check and see if it's still high as I'm guessing it is because I upped my Elavil from 25 to 50 mg.

Okay, so, for those of you who actually stopped taking the Elavil, How long did it take for your BP to lower. I stoped taking it 5 days ago and my BP is still high. My Dr. is putting me on Toprol (also wanted to put me on a diuretic and I screamed!) for the high BP but I really want to know if the Elavil is the culprit cause then I won't need even more meds. However, since stopping the Elavil, I have had to pee all the time. Hmm...heart or bladder. I guess heart is more important but I still don't know if that is the problem.

Would Nortryptiline (sp?) raise BP too? I would hate to play with my BP. It is the only thing I've got going on normal!!! :bonk:

I think it took me about 3 weeks. They put me on Diovan and got my blood pressure under control and it has not gone up since then.

I forgot to mention that I no longer have to take the Diovan either.

Well, my GP wants me to go back on the elavil since my urinary symptoms have come back, but it has only been 1 week since stopping. I am currently taking Toprol for the high BP. It is interesting that it took about 3 weeks and you no longer take diovan. Good! What about Atarax. I had a doc. suggest it instead. But, I heard it doesn't work the same way. Does it too raise BP?
