I was wondering about something today. I know that there are physical disabilites and such that qualify a person for Government benefits. Im not talking about Social Security disability here, I know I dont qualify for that because I didnt work enough quarters before I got married 22 years ago. But I think there is something else... I just cant remember what the name of it is, where you only have to qualify based upon a chronic condition or disability. I know that IC is considered one of the things that will qualify you for SSD, if you have the work quarters.. Is there something else? I also dont qualify for SSI due to my husband's income. I would certainly work if I could, things have gotten so expensive, its difficult to manage now on one income.

Just wondering...

thank you for reading,

Gina

Hi-

Are you maybe thinking of "General Assistance"? That seems to be what they call it when you don't fall under any other titles. I know it's a really small amount, but it may be enough to help with med costs or something. I would call the local welfare or Family Assistance office and see what they say. Mind you- they aren't anxious to hand out money, so you may have to push them. If that doesn't do it, call the Social Security office and see if maybe they can direct you to help at the State or City level.

Good luck-

Missy
