Has anyone had problems going to the dentist and having cavities filled? I have a 6pm appt to have a few filled.. I've never had a cavity filled before and i'm kinda nervous. Especially for the needle of novacaine. AHHHH Will that trigger my ic symptoms or make me flare? As the time gets closer i'm freeking out more and more and noone is going with me to hold my hand. I know your probably thinking i'm a baby and a 21 year old shouldnt need anyone to hold their hand while getting a cavity filled. LOL Maybe I am a baby or over reacting but it's scary for me. I hate the dentist! I dread even getting a teeth cleaning... plus I think they make my teeth worse. they always hurt for like 2 day afterwards. It's like they pick at my teeth so much they make it worse. Idk. any advice would help. maybe past experienses to calm me down??
thanks

hey, rach
I have past cavity experiences, but you don't want to hear them....it's not really that bad. I always get laughing gas...it makes it soo much better. I actually look foward to getting my teeth done when I have that. I remember the first time I got gas (LOL) I just kept thinking "I love this dentist. He's so AWESOME" It was great. I've never flared from novacaine and the needle only hurts for a second and they put some numbing stuff on before that too. Just close your eyes. Can't believe you're 21 and this is your first cavity...lucky duck! I've had 6 teeth pulled and yeah, pretty much all the rest of them have fillings in them. Good Luck!!!!! Think happy thoughts.

Good luck at you dental appt. Treantment have improved over the years. If you have a Ipod or CD player you might want to take it. If you talk to you dentist you will be more at ease.

I love the gas too! I always ask my dentist if he could meet me at the car. LOL! Everything will be fine, just paying the bill is the horrible part!
Tracey
no doubt about the bill. last time it cost me $820. That hurt so much worse than the tooth!!!

Well i'm alive... lol it wasnt fun that's for sure!!! They didnt numb my one side enough so when she started drilling i started squirming and was like stop!!! then she shot me 2 more times with the novacaine. I felt like i had collegin injected into my lips lol. But they filled 2 cavities. I have 7 more inbetween my bottom teeth. I'm not a big flosser but i'm gunna start b/c i'm causing more cavities by not flossing. Yikes!!! I have metlife and it covers 80% plus a $50 deductable. So it came out to $121 for 2 filled. I have 7 more so I have to do a few at a time... I cant afford to do them all at one time. I tried to eat and it feels werid so I might be eating yogert for the night. Hopefully tommorrow it wont feel so sensitive. Almost like if i bite they might fall out. The one tooth was so bad she had to drill out the whole back of the tooth. she said the cavity was so deep she saw my nerve, she put medicine in my tooth but she said I might need a root canal. AHHHHHHHHHH I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I wont need one. hmmm alrighty gonna go take some advil and rest up. ttyl girlies! Thanks for the support!!!
Glad you're still with us-LOL. Hate when they don't get it numb enough-ouch! I've had several root canals-no fun-hopefully yours won't need it. By tomorrow they shouldn't hurt hardly at all.

Hi am am glad to here you made it through you dental visit. I have been in the dental field for 30 years. Cold sensitivity is common for a few weeks. and bitting might feel a little different. I had two crowns done in July and it took a little while to get use to my new bite....:smile tee try glide floss that is what I like. I know some side effects of meds can make your mouth dry.. Act over the counter has Floride in it. That is one of my bigs fears dry mouth and increased cavities:evilsmile I would recomend a electric brush also they are more effectent at removing the plaque at the gum line.

Thanks flosser... Yesterday at work I was flossing after lunch and got to my tooth that had the filling in the back. The floss got stuck on the top of my tooth, it took my a minute to unhook it but afterwards it started to bleed. I looked at the back of my tooth with a mirror and it looks like she didnt fill the cavity up to the top of my gums. There's a small gap and it's really sensitive. Like when I drink water it kinda burns. also their not smooth. Like she didnt grind of the excess and its rough in the front of one tooth and the back of the other. should I call and make another appt to fix it or is this normal? My dentist reccomended act mouthwash or something with floride in it to keep cavities from getting worse. and i'm going to buy the spin brush too.
I have an oral b spinbrush. It works really well, but if I use it too often I get canker sores.
