Hey Sharon, no I haven't dropped off anywhere :lmao: apart from asleep hahahah. But I don't have any new photos today. I would love to have taken some from our outing yesterday but the security guards may not have been too impressed.
Being Fathers Day and the offspring were both working, David and I went to the National Gallery to see the Guggenheim collection which is visiting here at the moment. It was wonderful even if it did cost $20 each to get in! After that we wandered around the rest of the gallery for hours.Great way to spend a day with Warhol, Picasso, Pollock, Monet, Rembrandt, Pissaro, Drysdale, Nolan etc etc etc.
Diana, your photos are wonderful. Is that bridge still in use? It is very impressive. The flowers look so summery. Hibiscus I believe.
dg2901

Yes, both bridges are in use. The larger one replaced the small one. Used to be one had to travel down one mountain, across the small bridge, then up the other side in order to cross the river. We drove this route for kicks and I'll admit it was a bit unnerving--cant imagine having had to do it daily, or at night.
Re: the flowers..I too thought they were hibiscus, however I have pictures of hibiscus (locally) and while it looks similar, theres enough difference between these two flowers that even I can tell a difference..:lmao: Perhaps these are a different type..?
Where's everyone been hiding the last couple of days? :hmm:

Diana,
I LOVE the bridge photos. What a beautiful place to photograph, you lucky girl!!
Sharon, your computer room looks like a nice pleasant place to spend some time too :-)
As for me we went to the Pink Palace Museum this weekend and I played around with my new wide angle lens:

Sharon--I meant to inquire earlier about your picture--what beverage were you enjoying? whats in the basket? and your clock is slow! :lmao:
Jane--what lens did you take that picture with? I realize its a wide angle, however what brand? how wide?

Thank you Janie...I tidied up the room before I took the picture.
Your picture of the Pink Palace is post card material. That is one amazing place. And to think that is was built as a private residence.
Memphis History 101...Anyone heard of the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store Chain? The owner of the chain was who the house was being built for until he lost all his money. If I remember right, he lost the money in the Stock Market. The house was given to the City of Memphis and they turned it into a museum.
D...The picture was taken last November. The clock on the desk is correct. It is an Atomic Clock. Which basket are you asking about? The one to the right and sitting on the scanner is full of desk necessities...Mints, nail file, lip balm, etc. :lmao: The beverage...There isn't any other drink it could be since I live in the South...Iced Tea (decaffeinated). Yes, even in the Winter. If there had been a sprig of Mint in it, then it would have been a very large Mint Julep. Did you notice my Mouse Pad? It has our Memphis Zoo Pandas on it.

:hi: dg2901, Beautiful photos! I want to visit Hawks Nest S. P.someday to watch the fall bird migration. Sharon, Love to have a big space like yours for the computer. I have a 30 x 20" table for my laptop in the bedroom, but it works for me and am just grateful to have a computer at home, instead of having to go to the library to use one. Still spend lots of time at the Library, 2 volunteer days in the a.m. and filling in on Tues. and Wednesday nites, and Saturday a.m. for a friend who is having surgery. The pink palace a little like my home(ha ha :lmao:) that is I have green grass and one chimney. Thought my well went dry today as brown water started to blast into the kitchen sink. Many wells are dry this year. My son came over, it was just the switch which needed cleaning the rust off. Very happy!

Sharon--I should have known about the iced tea--do forgive me for even having to ask! :lmao: My guess about whats in your basket sitting on your scanner was that it contained mints--I was partially correct. I didnt notice the mouse pad--after you stated what was on it, I had to go back and take a look :)
Sue--can you repost the picture of you sisters puppy--the last posting seems to have a glitch in it.
Re: the fall bird migration--we've got tentative plans to head back up to Hawks Nest in late October (for Bridge Day). I'm hoping to encounter the bird migration as well, if its not too late. :)

Hi Diana,
This lens is the 17-55mm 2.8 Canon lens. It is my new favorite lens. It is the most expensive one I've bought so far and I researched it to death before I made the plunge but I have been very, very happy with it.
Now, the next thing on my list is a new flash. I think I told you guys that I've been having a big online "yard" sale at ebay and amazon.com and selling stuff to friends and family. I'm just about there for the money for my new flash.
Why can't this be a cheap hobby? LOL
Sharon, thanks for the comment on the photo and for the info on the Pink Palace. We enjoy going there and have a yearly family membership. Maggie is crazy about looking at all of the shiny crystals for some reason! :-)

Diana, they are very intresting photos. I especially like the one 'under the bridge' one .....very arty!
Janie, I wish I could call 'home' a palace like that! :lmao:
And Sharon, I am waiting for my one of the kids to move out so I can have a room just for art and craft stuff. It might come sooner than expected as my son has decided to apply for officer training with the RAAF. I'm still coming to terms with the possiblity of him entering the military.... not something I would have ever wished for either of my children.
Now my news for this week!
TA DA!~
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/th_MynewPentax.jpg (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/MynewPentax.jpg)
I gave the plastic a bit of a bash and finally shouted myself the new Digital SLR that I have been longing for Hahaahahah. Its a Pentax K100D, and I got it for a great price, bundled with a 1g memory card, a UV filter, rechargable batteries and charger and a handy camera bag.
I am still working out all the bells and whistles and don't have any pics of any value to show as yet...but give me time!
Hilary is very pleased as well, as she knows she will get use of it for college whenever she needs. Although she has her eye on another Pentax ...about 3 times the price of my new one! And is saving to get it sometime next year.

Wow! Congrats, Rosalie on the new camera!!! Can't wait to see your photos with it!
I haven't been taking too many photos because I'm still in the middle of my big "ebay" yard sale! I still have about $50 to go until I have enough for my flash (which costs $500). Ebay and Paypal charge a lot of fees so sometimes I feel like I'm taking one step forward and two steps back but I'll get there! LOL

I have photo's of BRidge day, my dad was working contruction and was there, he was taking pictures from below as they were jumping a few years ago. I will ask him to find them so I can post them. Hope his old age remembers where they are now LOL. I want you to see how cool it is from the bottom looking up.

I'm practicing my product photography for ebay selling and took these two photos of artwork that my husband bought in the middle east in the mid - 1990s. They are arabian horses with elaborate Arabian headresses.

My dad is a huge hunter and believes in killing with what he makes. He makes his own recurved bows and has no fear of the wild. He killed a black bear and crawled in the bear den while it was still breathing to find it after he shot it. Not thinking what he and the bear would do alone if it was still able to fight back.
My dad with the the 260pound black bear he killed.

Leslie--thanks for those pics...very interesting! Not too sure I'd want to be the iron worker building that bridge..haha..Its amazing just how large that thing is!
Re: the observatory--do you know if this is open to the public, or is it just for NASA?
Now, the black bear...yikes!!...What did your dad do with the bear? I had to laugh about your dad not thinking ahead of time about the bear still possibly being able to fight..:lmao:..that could have been quite the interesting conundrum!
Jane--those paintings are cool! Simple, yet elegant.
I tried to get you a few pictures of horses while I was away, however the two I've posted are the only ones I managed to halfway sucessfully capture. The white one alone in the field was my favorite..he really stood out against the wooded background.
Sue--that dog is adorable! Is it a toy poodle?

:hi: Now you would not find me climbing in a bear den to see if it's still breathing, but the hunters in my family would understand. Glad the bear made it to be displayed, for a great story. Mollie is a pek-a-poo, mix of pekanese and poodle, just way to cute. The alligator photo reminded me of a trip a few years back to the Georgia swamps. The one threatening us, about 6 people in a 18 ft. open boat, she had lots of babies on a tiny beach about 10 ft. away.

I love the swamp tours, people might think it's creepy but I have taken some really beautiful pictures of wild life out there.. I did't get to see it because it's protected but about a half of mile from where we were at there was a Bald Eagles Nest the tour guide said he had seen before it was put on the pretected list and the nest was as big as a Volkswagon I would have loved to been able to take a picture of that..

Great picture Janie!!! You should send it to the Today Show since they always show a crappy picture when they do their salutes to different cities. Now I am going to look at everyone else's pictures. I am glad to see everyone back!

Janie,
I love that portrait! My Maine Coons would be a great subject for your portraits. Only you'd have to come here for it because they don't travel well (hehe). I know my breeder has Maine Coon portraits of her so she can sell them. She usually uses her show quality and or award winners go up for portraits.
I'm glad that tortise was saved. They live for a VERY long time!
Have a great day!

Hi Everyone...I have been away for several days. Went to a Women's Conference in Nashville last weekend and then went to visit with one of my best friends in the Chattanooga area where Hubby and I lived for almost 8 years before coming to this area in 1995. There were 5 of us ladies from my Saturday Night Group who went to Nashville. We had so much fun. It was great to get away with just the girls and dish about "chick" stuff.
I took a bunch of pictures of the area around Chattanooga. I will post them once Hubby hosts them.
I will be away again for a few days starting the 18th. Hubby and I are going to the cabin with the mother of the owner of the cabin to help her take care of her grandchildren while the owners (her daughter and son in law) are traveling elsewhere.
Everyone's pictures are so great. I loved catching up with them. I missed all of you.

I have some berries that have showed up under the tall spruce trees in the side yard, result I think of bird droppings from the many birds nesting in these trees. Things at home have been taking up most of my attention the last week or so; havent really had the camera out and about very much.
I've been peeking in on this thread though and keeping up with everyones pictures--all have been lovely!--the "tree frog", Bucksnort (haha), the glass displays, the rescued turtle portrait, the ferris wheel, etc etc :)

T83--thanks. :). This particular rose bush, believe it or not is over 23 years old. It blooms w/o incident every year starting in late March through December. I do absolutely nothing to it other than water it every couple of days with some soapy water. Our dry spell this year, unfortunately caused some damage so I'm going to have to cut it back quite a bit once winter arrives. Hopefully it'll come back full force next year. :)
Regarding your picture question--are you using Photobucket? If so, check the box underneath the picture you want to post. Scroll down and click on "generate html and img code"; the next page copy the code for "img clickable thumbnails for message boards"; come back here and paste that code into your post.
Hope that helps.

dg2901, :smile tee , beautiful rose! These are the berries showed up under a row of mature spruce trees, result of the many birds that nest there each year, apparently dropping the seed. I am not sure what they are but for now I am not eating them, just enough for the birds to be happy with.

The fish idea was from the son of a Baptist preacher. It is his signature for any wedding that he is a groomsman for. I wish y'all could have seen the look on Jessica's face when she hit one of the condoms with her head. We have it on film. It was a great idea. But I do feel sorry for the preacher kid when he gets married. He has done this to several newlyweds, and payback is always worse!!!!

Thanks Tracey! I couldn't have picked a better one if I tried (and of course I tried..but I found out that it doesn't work that way). They got married May 19th. They live in Birmingham now, so I don't see them much, but Jessica sends me emails and pictures quite a bit. She sent me some pictures that she had taken of their apartment and while I was going through them I noticed Justin as he was crossing the sink area of their bathroom. His left butt cheek was exposed. I didn't have the heart to say anything to her. I didn't want to embarrass her. Our family posts our pictures on Walmart so that we can all enjoy them, but luckily it was removed before anyone saw it. I told my hubby that he may need to look at the pictures that were posted when he got out of bed. First of all he died laughing, the he called my son and let him know. The picture was quickly deleted. I told Jess that it certainly didn't take her long to have a family story. Our family enjoys other people's misfortunes (In a funny way, of course)! I had put pictures of Justin through the years together as did Jessica's mom and my hubby made the sweetest slide show for the rehearsal dinner. I had a great picture of Justin when he was about 4 with his bottom just a shining white and he was so tanned. My husband wouldn't let me put it in, and I was like his wife just posted his butt for the family to see and you wouldn't let me put a cute tub shot in the slide show! By the way, I have seemed to escape an embarrassing things for the family to tease me about. Of course I have been known to do things, but nobody has caught me. Believe, after almost 25 years, they watch me carefully, especially when I am on my meds.

Ronda be consoled, the tree is not really wood like your frog, but it still was amazing that people are that talented. There are over 350 animals (the guide told us) on the tree. I just kept walking around it trying to pick out the animals. They go way up in the branches. I am glad it turned out big (don't know how I did it) so everyone could see the detail.

OMG Tracey, I got laughing so hard! That poor girl hasn't even been in the family a year, and like you said, she already has a family story!! :) Oh how funny, and sweet too! Me too, so far in 2 and half years I have managed to escape any "blunders" etc., well like you they've been under the radar... ;) Whew, must be a "Tracey" thing, huh?
And to think, hubby wouldn't let you put in a tub shot, that's just too funny. Apparently the "adult" butt is ok, ha ha ha ha ha!!!! You two sound like me and my MIL though, we are always in contact and I try to keep her updated on the house and what we're doing to it etc... And it's really nice to hear all the time how happy she and dad are to have me instead of his first fiance, lol. And it's also nice to hear that they think we are a great team and whatnot. Hmmm, I don't think I could ever divorce hubby - I want to keep my Mother-in-Law!! ha ha ha
Oh, wait, I did make one goof, sort of, but it's never been repeated, lol. She was treating me to a manicure and the 3 of us were talking (her, myself and Ingrid the manicurist), and Ingrid asked me how married life was going etc, as it was still in the first year. Well, we got talking about - of all things, butts. lol. I told her I must have the only husband in the world that wishes I'd get plastic surgery to make mine bigger, lol. Well, she then said "wow, I bet that's just what your mother in law wanted to know!" (laughing her butt off of course), I think I must have turned a million shades of red, lol. Oh well, what are you gonna do huh? In the grand scheme of things, it could have been much much worse...heh heh heh.......:evilsmile

Thanks girls!! It was a lot of work (it's really tiring watching hubby go up and down the ladder all day, lol), but I think in the end came out nicely. Picking a paint color was the hardest part really, ugh, what a nightmare. But no, we are still working on the inside slowly but surely, probably do some more stuff inside when the snow flies, lol. The upstairs bedroom (the room that the actual stairs open up to) is the next project, making it a hobby-study-rec-maybe nursery-room, lol. It will be ready hopefully for whatever we throw at it when were done, top priority for me is my craft stuff and get the dang walls painted!!!! ;)
Oh suebee, that's what hubby eventually wants to do - he wants to build a seperate garage and make the one under the house attached to the basement, into one big "family room" walk-out basement-thingy, ;) Geesh, looks like we could be neighbors!!!:) The snow looks about right too, lol. Gotta love the style huh?? Hee hee. We too built the house, well, my ex and I did, I think now it was back in 1994. So, it's still fairly "young". Hubby and I are always on the lookout though for our big old farmhouse to buy someday....

Hi all! I have been running around like a headless chook for what seems like weeks, without getting a chance to look in to catch up with you all. And, after all my carrying-ons about desperately wanting the new DSLR and finally making the purchase, I have only recently been able to take any pics.:bonk:
Again, I have had sooooo much to catch up on in this thead.....IC photo-snappers wait for neither tide nor man :lmao:
Weekend before last hubby and I visited some friends living Wangaratta 12 months ago. ..Wangaratta is about 3 hours north of Melbourne.
They have moved into a 130year old house 10 minutes out of the town. It is a very pretty property and the house itself very nicely renovated. However, it is a bit too cold for me and I DO like my creature comforts....No microwave to heat my wheat bags! Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cold toes!
This is "The Willows"

The dam at the front of the property is edged by a stand of willows. It makes a very lovely scene.

How inviting of a home. Your room looked cozy too.

Hello!!!!
Janie - that horse shot is beautiful! I would look great in black and white too, wow. The horse itself is just gorgeous!!!
Ro - Ok, that place is really cool!! How tall are the ceilings?? The room you stayed in looked like it had super high ceilings!
Kara - Hope you have a lovely time visiting, and if Diana can photograph her breakfasts, hopefully you will find something too!! hee hee!! ;)

Tracey...Those are such cute pictures of Piggy. We used to have a couple of Chips scooting around our backyard but with the drought, they seem to have found greener (wetter) pastures.
BTW...That is one cute house you live in. I still say you and Hubby need to come for a visit and bring all your gardening tools with you. :lmao:
Ro...I was wondering the same thing as Tracey when I looked at the bedroom picture. You Aussies must be a very tall breed to need such tall ceilings. :lmao:
Janie...Congrats on the windfall for the saddle. So...what's your next purchase now that you have a big wad of cash?

Sharon LOL, Piggy is the one who lives in my front flower bed, under the hollys, lol. I now have a collection of, hmmm, at the very least 10. A few I have named, like Piggy, that one certainly lives up to the name, ha. Jeremy figures he's probably got at least 50 lbs of seeds stored for winter, courtesy of me, hee hee. I have a bunch in the backyard too. I go out once a day (sometimes more cause they are fun to play with, will eat right out of your hand now)with some sunflower seeds and make the rounds. They crack me up - one will see me coming and I swear he calls out to the others, lol, they all come running... Okie dokie, have trowel will travel! ;)

Hey Sue, I just realized I forgot to tell you how cool that mural is! WOW (I thought I had said that in my last post, but again brain was way ahead of hands and I skipped it, lol) I tried to get one of them in close enough, he was by my feet one day, but no go. Janie---the tattoo is an endless knot; one of the Eight auspicious symbols as known in Chinese art; also found in Tibetan Buddhism that represents the interweaving of the spiritual path, the flowing of time and movement which is eternal. there is no beginning or end thus symbolizing the concept of Karma.
The portraits of that little dog are adorable!! Her little tongue sticking out completes the look perfectly! What a happy pooch!! :puppy:

Sharon---I suppose the tattoo could be described as "complicated"..haha...however, its really fairly basic. Its the shading that makes it look intricate. And a sidenote here-***the red 'color' is a mixture of blood and skin irritation..its not ink. :help:
Tracey--it took the guy an hour to complete it, and let me tell you, an hour is about all I can stand. This is the largest of my 'collection' and I do believe I wont be doing anything as large again..:lmao:..I was very close to having him do a fill in color, however this was prior to him starting it. The shading caused enough discomfort. And like my sidenote above ***the red 'color' is a mixture of blood and skin irritation..its not ink. :help:
:tsk: Now, regarding "Dirty Diana"--I must ask, did this just suddenly pop into your head, Tracey?.:lmao:. I'm so far from that description it's not even funny! :lmao: I hadnt heard anyone make that comment since 1988, believe it or not..hahhahaha..Is your mind taking you back in time, Tracey?
Now, I must carry on as I have a <insert gagging noise here> "sweet 16" birthday party to attend, followed by a "bon voyage" party. I'm taking my camera so I might have pics to share later.

Hi Kara!
Read your manuals, but it's likely that your camera if it is at all modern day, has some sort of water protection. Go ahead and take that shot next time! Don't miss out. :) I take photos in rain like that all the time, or did while I was doing home inspections, and it never affected either one of my digital cameras, and I had two different kinds, plus I borrowed my mom's high end, expensive one (over $900). So, don't miss out and get on out there!

Hi all, I wish I could get to check in more often as I seem to be several pages behind any time I do. So, Kara, I know what you mean about being out of the loop. But, it only takes a bit to catch up.
Janie, I am impressed with your ebay sales. I have bought many things but never gotten around to selling...although I have a roof full of stuff I could probably get rid of :lmao: I love the "poochie" shots and I have to ask if the purple has been dyed into the hair or were they ribbons?
Suebee, you have a lovely house and the pic with the snow looks like a postcard.I just can't imagine living with snow, it looks so peaceful. Your pics of the murals is very interesting. There is a town, Sheffield, in Tasmania that has many just like those. I also like the pics of Mt Rushmore. ..I have seen a documentary on the making of the Crazyhorse sculpture.
Tracey, those little creatures are just gorgeous. Hahahaah I had to go back and forth from the Chipmunks to the squirrel trying to pick the difference between them. I had a laugh at you calling them "chippies", thats what we call carpenters here.:lmao: I can just imagine the little fellas with their nail bags around their waists hammering away at some tiny project.:lmao:
Di, I don't know how you do it, all that pain with the tatts! I guess I am too much of a woos to get one done. I like the idea...the brain is willing but the flesh says "get out of here, no bloody way!"
Shaz, now to answer the question from both you and Tracy about the height of the ceilings in those old houses. I think it was done to keep them cool in the summer but perhaps the following picture could add another possible reason.:lmao:
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/th_NedKellyStatueatGlenrowan2.jpg (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/NedKellyStatueatGlenrowan2.jpg)
Actually, this is a statue of Ned Kelly, a famous bushranger here. His last stand was made in the town of Glenrowan. I got this pic when I stopped for a decaf on the way home from Wangaratta.
This a view of the main street...it may be a bit shaky as I was in the middle of the road.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/th_Glenrowan-1.jpg (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/Glenrowan-1.jpg)
This was taken on the way home as well. It is on the edge of the Warby Range. The scene just caught my imagination as I though it very indicative of the Aussie countryside.

Sue...I know that it seems like they have not made much progress, but they have. You can see the face, now. Wow!!! It also looks like they have punched through for the armpit. That is going to be really something when they finish. Thanks for posting the pics.
Ro...I don't which pic is funnier than the other. The one with Ned Kelly or the one of you wearing the table decorations. Okay...yes I do. The one of you so plowed that you thought it okay to pose with it on your head wins hands down. :lmao: Your cakes are magnificent.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on the portraits. I'm looking forward to photographing Tracey83's Mollie when she has time to bring her over!
SueBee I love your beautiful landscape shots. They all have such beautiful color and good exposure!
Rosalie, I got such a kick out of the birthday photos and the Andy Warhol! Great job. You really know how to capture personality in your photos!

Oh my gosh, I am behind again, already! LOL :) Let's see....
leelee - Halloween is my all-time-number-one favorite holiday, yep even over Christmas, so I LOVE what you've done with the place!! LOL Wanna come to MI and help me out?? I wish I could find the photos of the inside of the house I did one year, I had black paper bats ALL over the walls, hanging from fishing line from the ceiling, along with some ghosts, spider webbing everywhere, oh what fun... A drag to take down, but fun!!!! ;)
Sue - Those are some great shots you got there! I would love to see that stuff in person, ah maybe someday.... Got any more?? :)
Janie - again, wow, I am so envious! You do such great work! I gotta know, where do you get the models? Hee hee!! Although, I DON'T wanna know where the HUGE spider came from. Now I must go and de-heebiejeebie myself...*shudder*
Ro - Ok you got ME laughing at the thought of my little furballs with hammer and nails - they'd most likely be building squirrel traps, :lmao: And yep, the table decoration party hat totally wins the crack-me-up award of the day!!!!! And I agree, your cakes are fab!
Ok, here's my spidey pic of the century - I still have NO idea how I managed to do this without passing out, lol. It was at the family cottage, on the beach where I saw it and had to photograph it. It helped that my mom-in-law was there, to be my moral support, lol. Now, I noticed this thing leisurely going on it's way, but it looked "weird". Soooooo, I grabbed the camera and snapped away. Got home, downloaded them and hubby comes over and says "Oh cool! You got a pic of one with her babies on her back!" I immediately replied "WHAT??? OMG, no wonder it looked weird!!!" So, the clarity isn't that great, I think I was shaking and then her "brood" made for it to be a bit fuzzy as well... Ok enough talk here's the pics...*shudder*

Thought I'd share the bit of excitement I got to experience last night..haha...According to the police (per my incredibly NOSEY neighbor just having to approach and inquire), this scene was nothing more than "a routine traffic stop"..hahaahaha..yeah..OK....

Janie, you know I want every detail on how you took that photo..the lighting is amazing and the focus so clear. Do you focus manually or use the auto focus? Also, where did you take the shot? Did you set it up in your studio?
Shaz and Tracey, thanks for your vote on the funniest photo of the evening..Hahahah...
Diana, your pictures are very interesting. I especially like the lights in the second one. Never a dull moment in VA right? :lmao:

Wow, Traceanne! What a find that was! i wish i could run across a spider with babies on her back. That was some amazing photos!!!
Ros, my shot was taken with my 100mm macro lens and i used the on camera flash to get it brightened up. She was hanging on the corner of my house that just happened to have some light colored trim so it served as a good backdrop.
I think i auto focused on that one but I use manual focus a lot when i do macro work.
Diana, Wow that was some excitement near your place. You'll have to let us know if you hear what went on!
Anybody heard from Kara lately? Hope she is doing well.
Tracey83 is going to bring Mollie over here on Thursday so I'm excited about photographing her!!

Rosalie--just another day in my 'hood. Turns out it wasnt anything more than a routine stop afterall.
Jane--we crossed-posted. Anyway, nothing but a routine traffic stop. Seems the driver didnt stop when first summonsed to pull over, hence all the back-up units.
Well, I ventured outside this morning to take a few pictures of the spider lillies only for the camera not to cooperate. Either I'm more blind than I thought I was, or perhaps I'm just too stupid to really figure this camera out after 3 months--I couldnt get the thing to focus on anything other than what it wanted to. So, the camera goes to the first person who offers me $850!!!

Regarding Shutterfly, if I read it correctly, you can share links to your pictures, unlike with Photobucket where you can share individual pictures. Theres a "help" section on Shutterfly that explains the sharing process step by step. Hopefully we'll be seeing some of your pics very soon! :)

Jamie--I was just coming back to post about only being able to share via email with Shutterfly. I think thats why I never did much with my account I have with them.
Photobucket, Webshots or SmugMug are the easiest host sites to use for sharing. Photobucket and Webshots is free, and SmugMug has an annual fee.
I'm looking forward to seeing your pics.

I am so excited that Janie, the spider lady, is going to take my Mollie's picture. She will get her bath tonight. Hubby says no fluffy things on her ears, but I will see about that!
We had a "Jacob's Ladder" spider last year on one of our back windows. I researched it and found it on the internet. It would tear the web down after the night and rebuild it back by the next evening. It looked just like a ladder. It was so interesting. I tried to capture it with my camera, but it never turned out. I think a dumb bird finally got it, but it was around every day for a few weeks. I called her Charlotte (of course).
Poor Roxie, she does look frustrated! Look at that mouth!
Jamie, I too struggle with the posting pictures deal. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe I will get Janie to give me a private lesson...pray for her patience!

Janie, thanks for the photo info. I will have a go at some creepy crawlies around here. I found a red-back spider the other day but I wasn't going to get within a metre of her so the shot wouldn't have been any good.
Diana, your shots of the spider lillies actually make a very interesting pic. ..The colour looks a bit like your HD shots.
Jamie :welcome: All the more, the merrier here. Is that your hubby and children in the photos? A very handsome family you have there. I use photobucket for my posting pics and haven't had any problems with it at all...well thats is after I finally worked it out!:lmao:

The deer is actually in a large fenced in area at a retreat in the Ozarks. The staff encouraged us to visit him because he loved the attention. I went in there with food, but he was more interested in me scratching him (much like a dog!), especially his antlers, which they say is very uncommon for deer to even let you touch their antlers. When I left, he was just running along the fence. It made me feel so bad, but other people with our group spent a lot of time with him as well. The retreat is run by a wonderful family that stay there year round. They have camps and work retreats up there most of the year. The place is called Shephard of the Ozarks and normally has other petting zoo type animals, but some wild dogs got to alot of them. That really bothered me since we went there last year and they had a Llama named Tina that was just as friendly. I didn't even ask if the dogs got to her. They have raised the fence as well as other things to protect the animals they still have. Next spring they will add back some animals. The whole retreat grounds (about 600 acres) had horses and donkeys roaming around as well as wild goats up on the cliffs. Of course I didn't have my camera to capture 2 wild turkeys we came across. They vanished quite quickly. I would love to work at a place like that. It is so inspiring and to be around animals like that would be so wonderful plus it is just a beautiful place just to relax.

Wow, what a great bunch of photos that everyone has been posting. I can't comment on each one individually but I enjoyed looking at each and every one!!
Diana, are you serious about selling your camera? Which one are you selling? The XTi? Your photos are looking fantastic!!
If you decide to really sell it I've had quite a bit of success on Ebay and you might want to sell it there. I don't know if you can get quite that much for it though on Ebay. I might also be selling mine. I love my XTi but I am a total sucker for new technology and Canon has recently come out with the Canon 40 D so I might sell the XTi to help pay for that.
Here's a couple of photos I took todayl

Diana,

WOW, I can't believe how much we've gotten out this summer for photos. I think it's so great that we are doing "something" constructive to help make us feel human. When I have that camera in my hand I forget for just that beautiful moment that I have so many illnesses.
I've been living between my Husband and My Parents Home. since I have been living out of my suitcases, she knows that is my stuff. My Mom's Cat (Crystal) whom we call Chickity because she looked like a little chick when she was a kitten. Anyway she has taken to me and has decided that when I come to stay that she is NOT letting me go home to my kitties. She proved that readily in these photos. I love her! We have a bond. My pets are all male so I have never been used to female cats. She gets so sad when I start to pack my bags to go back home. I told here today that I was staying for a few days so she could just relax and enjoy our time together. She never leaves my side (with the exception of her mouse hunting, in which she takes night shifts once in awhile with her Sister, Ginger)
Her blue eyes are so captivating, it's so hard for me to say no.
(Kara, Please Don't Go Away Again!)

Geesh! This place has been active, lol. I was just here and already behind!!!!
Ok, gang, sorry for the Creep Fest, but Janie started it!! hee hee hee:evilsmile Hey, I gotta blame someone!! ;)
Leslie, I swear she looks like she's smiling for the camera as the rest said! WOW! And she's also got that look in her eyes, like "Pleeeeeeeeeeeease mommy, let me outside, I only want to PLAY with him, I promise, pleeeeeease???" :)
Kara, glad to see you back in action! Yay!! Missed ya! :hi: Love the fall decorations (my FAVE time of year), and the kitty shots, I LOOOOOOOVE kitties! :cat: Yes, I will be the crazy old cat lady some day I am sure....:bonk:
D, well well, you certainly seem to live in an "active" area, aren't you scared??? Bad boys bad boys what you gonna do, what you gonna do when Dirty Diana come for you...bad boys bad boys.....:evilsmile
Ok, here's one from my Reunion, which I finally got uploaded to photobucket:
This of me and my best friend from Kindergarten forward, she's the kind of friend doesn't matter how long it's been since you talked, you pick right up where you left off, and we have this creepy connection of knowing just when we need to talk to one another etc...

Jane---I'm thinking long and hard about selling the XTI. I'm getting more frustrated instead of more comfortable..guess I'm not cut out for DSLR.
Where were those 2 pictures taken?
Kara--I was a bit surprised to come across those cattails in WV..I'm used to seeing them at sea level instead of at high elevations.
Cute kitty. :)
Tracey--Some may think I live in a scary area..its just 'home' to me. :). I'm not too terribly afraid as I think I keep myself fairly well protected. :)...You also live in a bit of a scary area, no? Are you able to sleep well at night?..:lmao:
Looks like you had fun catching up with the friend at the reunion. While that picture is a bit scary, its not as scary as your spider picture! :lmao:

Traceann, both you and your friend are lovely looking ladies. Isn't it wonderful to have a friend like that - one you can pick back up with no matter how long it's been since you've seen each other!
Diana, I took those two photos at a local Catholic church. They had a blessing of the animals which I went to but it was so crowded I couldn't get any photos of the animals but did take a few photos of their courtyard.
Kara, that looks like a sweet cat and she has a very maternal look about her. I bet she wants to take care of you! Glad to see you back!

D...I think I'd go to that uro just for the view.

Jane--the courtyard is beautiful! :)
So tell me more about this camera you're thinking about purchasing...
Sharon--the area where my URO is located is just lovely. He's just over the river (where the footbridge is) from the city/historic district. The Chrysler Museum is located to the right of the footbridge--the body of water its sitting on is the Hague. I'll have to get more pictures of that area to post. :)

Diana,
Well it is the Canon 40 D and it is kind of one step up from the XTi. It's selling for about 1299 right now but I've sold enough stuff on Ebay to pay for it and the money is "burning a hole in my pocket" as my dad used to say! <grin>
actually I'm debating on buying that or a nice zoom lens. Decisions, Decisions!

Ok in response to Sharon's question, here's the photo answer...see the beer??

This a photo of my other best friend in highschool, but we've not really kept in touch - very weird if you ask me. It's one of those things that I would have never ever say would happen... When we were in school, we were together all the time, we went to college as roomies (I had to "drop out" though due to financial issues), but then once I left school we just lost touch. *sigh* I was happy to see she hasn't changed a bit!
Diana - why yes, I have the hoodlum squirrels in my neighborhood - very scary indeed!!!
Jane - those are great photos, I am already seeing them in my head black and white and framed in a very cool and artsy fashion!!! ;)

Tracey--was there only one beer?............And you commented on the hoodlum squirrles in your area--that would frighten me, no doubt!!! :help:
Jane--I checked out that 40 D. I think i'd have to go with a zoom lens as I couldnt see enough upgrade to justify the purchase. Then again, I'm a tight wad, and cant even use the xti..haha..:) :)
This little guy camped out on my front porch railing last night. Figured I'd take a few pictures before he packed up and moved on. He wasnt as big around as a dime--very tiny fella...

D - Why yes, you don't know fear until you've dealt with hoodlum squirrels, I am going to need lots and lots of therapy :bonk:
Sue - Wow, those photos are great! That chapel is cool and interesting! Gosh apparently I need to get out of the house more often, well to somewhere besides work, lol.

Diana, nice macro of the little snail!
Sue Bee you have the most interesting places to photograph!! I'm jealous!
Kara, I think a little gnome sitting next to that mushroom would be perfect! :-)
Diana, I didn't listen to the voice of reason so broke down and bought the 40D today. It should be here by the end of the week. I just don't have any self control when it comes to new cameras!! Thankfully I"ve found Ebay - the perfect place to find the perfect home for my lightly used XTi.
Anyway, can't wait to get my new toy.

Kara - all the gardening we've done the past 2 years has really really infiltrated my brain when it comes to that stuff!! LOL My Momin-law is constantly asking me "how do you remember all the names?" I have no idea...;)
I have started taking photos to use in a Gardening scrapbook for myself. It's going to be huge, lol. If and when I ever get around to building it.... :) Flowers and plants are great to photo, they usually stay still, unless it's windy and they are always "smiling" ! :)
Janie - how very very cool! New cameras are sooo much fun, well, mine was also a challenge at first, but fun!! ;) One of these days I am going to have to breakdown and hit Ebay... sounds mighty dangerous to my pocketbook, unless I sell something first, lol!! :)

Sharon--thanks to your snail comment you had me out on my porch looking for leftover snail slime. :loco:
Would it make me appear cruel if I told you-or everyone for that matter-that I like escargot?
Sue--lovely photos! I especially like the one of the wedding chapel. :)
Tracey--I'll 2nd your statement about you possibly needing some therapy. :help: I'm sure having to deal with the squirrels doesnt help your situation any! ;)
Kara--cool mushroom! I've got pictures of a strangely shaped mushroom that appears every now and then in my yard. I'd post it, however due to its shape I'd have to flag it as 'age appropriate' as it looks a bit risque. :tsk:
Ronda--:hi:
Jane--somehow I knew you wouldnt have the will power to hold off on the 40 D. :lmao: I went into Ritz this evening in hopes of being able to check it out first hand. Seems due to stock room, its by order only for the time being. However, the sales guy was more than happy to order me one..hahaha... After he finished rattling off all the bells and whistles, my head was spinning too much to do anything other than say "thanks for that" and walk away. :lmao: I cant wait to see yours--be sure to post a picture of it when it arrives--ok????? :)

I'm with Donna...That's pretty much all I know about flowers, also. Oh...there is one more thing...they die without water. :lmao:
Kare...That is an incredible mushroom. I don't think I have ever see one quite like that.
D...No problem about the escargot. Before I developed a problem digesting garlic, I thought they were delicious.
Who were the shoes made for? They are very colorful but not something I would wear or would spend that kind of money for. They do make a great picture, though.

Sharon---there used to be a great seafood restaurant (with a beautiful view of the Elizabeth river) that had the best escargot. Sadly they closed down a couple of years ago--I miss the yummy little fellas!..:lmao:
Those shoes were for sale in a shop inside Tamarak--a market of sorts thats operated by WV locals. The people have shops set up with their own wares; this particular place sold mostly leather goods including these shoes. I was going to buy a pair until I saw the price..haha..yikes! Figured the least I could do though was take a quick picture..:)
