My urologist did the cystoscopy, when I had 2 weeks of a calming bladder then told me that it only lasts 2 weeks after a cystoscopy and if I hadn't responded to it I wouldn't have IC so therefore I have IC even though there aren't any mast cells. So at exactly two weeks the bladder starts acting up and he makes an appointment to see me 3 months from now. I have only had this problem two months and yes I still think its something else. I guess I am in denial. I just felt like he got his money and he doesn't want to be bothered with me. My meds will run out in a week. I am still peeing tissue from the cystoscopy! He said he believes IC is caused by bacteria. Why doesn't he run some tests to find it. I asked him about broth cultures and he said he didn't know anything about that. I apolagize for posting so much lately but I am in shock from all of this. My speculation on how this could have started is that I was on a rhumatoid drug Arava and my liver counts went through the roof. I was even having pain in my liver from it. This was the 1st of July and the Doctors took me off the drug. The counts finally went down. Does anyone know if a toxic shock to your liver could reach your bladder? What does it mean when a doctor says something is acute? He said it was acute IC from his observation. How bad is acute???? Thanks for letting me vent. I don't know how all of you keep going like this I really don't. I may need to see a psychiatrist, I am getting manic depressive. Does anyone find that helpful?

Definitely see a different doctor -- call around and ask the offices if the doctor works with IC patients. Or try to get a recommendation here.
There is no such thing as acute IC. IC is a chronic condition; opposite of acute. IC can flare and remit, from time to time, but something acute would be like a UTI, which is caused by bacteria and can be cured in a short period.
It sounds to me like this doctor doesn't know much about IC, and you'd be better off seeing someone more experienced in this area, even just to rule it out.
Good luck.

I am on my third doctor since symptoms started a few months ago. The first one is considered very good but he acts like a jackass no it all. The second one would not consider my pain as an issue. No anesthesia or pain meds, period. The third one I really like a lot. He just did the Hydro last Wednesday to confirm what I pretty much already guessed, IC. I was in misery for a few days after the procedure and he saw me right away to help me out. I am on day two of feeling pretty good and trying to figure out what foods are triggering the flares. I can only eat one food at a time in order to know if it causes me problems. I am scared of all food any way now. I barely eat at all. Which seems to be helping a lot. I have decided after discovering this website that I am going to try real hard to go un-medicated. Famous last words I know. I had know idea so many of us suffered. I am determined to find the common denominator.
Good luck to you in what ever you decide.

Acute can also mean sudden/rapid onset, which it sounds like happened to you.
If you're not feeling comfortable with what you're being told, by all means you should get a second opinion. No reputable physician will object and you shouldn't have to have tests repeated.

I know exactly what you mean about eating. I am afraid to eat anything too and have actually lost weight. There is so much on the avoid list and I check ingredients and find most everything has something in it that should be avoided. I'm starving and afraid!

Then he tells me I should eat an enchilada since I can always take prelief. I am afraid to eat anything but carrots, cucumbers and celery with rice. As if prelief is going to make me normal again.

Prelief caused me constipation when I was taking it, and it did very little to help me to be honest. All it is, is like taking tums. Same thing. It actually works better for treating heartburn and such more so than the bladder pain. It may de-acidify some of the acidic foods you eat, but for me, it did not help with that either.
