I'm such a sucker!! She talked me into 2 birthday parties this year. One, tomorrow, on her birthday for family. <<It's not like I'm in a crappy flare or anything>> and one next Saturday - - her first BOY / GIRL party. She's 11 tomorrow. In 5th grade. Can't believe she talked me into this. What was I thinking????? <sigh> Michelle. eek

Hmmmm --- sounds like what I used to do for my children for their birthdays. Family always wanted to share the celebration, but the kids preferred a party with their peers.

Michelle,
I was hoping the Birthday party thing would end at about age 10. Every year I go crazy planning my kids Birthdays and my husband says When is this going to end!!
I don't know about what area you live in but around here the Birthday parties are totally out of control. Sometimes were invited to 7 or 8 in one month.
People are running out of new places and now we have been traveling about a half an hour or more away so the kids can do something different. It's really ridiculous and I can never say no because my kids don't want to be left out.
My middle daughter's Birthday is coming up in June and I'm already planning it. I stopped having it at the house because it was too stressful always wondering if it was going to rain and then cleaning the house like a nut. Every party were looking at almost $300 which we really can't afford. I didn't have a party for my one year old and don't plan on doing one until she's about 3. My June Birthday daughter is having it at the YMCA and inviting all the kids from her class, the Brownie troop and then the friends that we've known that I'm friendly with. Every party I get an incredible flare. It never fails!!
Have fun!

When my kids reached their 12th birthdays, I figured out what it would cost to have a birthday party --- then asked the child if they would rather have a party or the money! They all chose the money --- then I took them shopping so they could get what they wanted with the money. Much less stress and happy kids!

:) I agree about the parties! They are out of control! My daughter is turning five next week and I am already so tired of trying to plan the "coolest" party! We're doing bowling this year---they put the bumpers in so they don't get gutter balls! My son's birthday is in the summer, so we do swimming parties! Whatever happened to cake, ice cream and pin the tail on the donkey?????
wink Alyson
