I just had my uro-dynamics test done this morning and I think it was rather confusing. First, I had to drink lots of water(an hour before the procedure) and then go to the bathroom in a machine that tests my flow. I peed a lot, 350 cc, but my flow was really weak, it took a long time for it to come out. Then she cathed me and another 110 cc came out. At home I usually have to double void to completely empty. Then she inserted sensors into my bladder and rectum, filled me up to 500 cc, then had me pee. That time however, I could hardly pee anything (200 cc, after many minutes). About an hour later, I really went a lot.
Anyone ever had that experience? In general, I have a weak but easy flow, and pain after I pee. I'm not sure why I couldn't go after I had so much fluid in my bladder. Now, of course, I'm very sore, especially in my uretha.
On Sept 4th, I go in for my hydro. I'm a little freaked about it, but I'm planning to take a few days off of work.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Allison,

A lot of patients report difficulty urinating during urodynamics for several reasons:
-They're nervous (it's easier to pee when you're calm)
-There are people around (people get bladder-shy)
-They have a sensor in their rectum (many people observe that they have difficulty urinating when their rectum/bowel is stretched, like before a BM)
-Urodynamics forces the patient into an uncomfortable/unusual physical position where he/she might not be comfortable voiding.

All these can result in really bad hesitancy.

I couldnt "go" at all during my urodynamics test even with 500ccs of urine sitting in there..ouch! Once all the catheters were removed and I was released to the regular bathroom, my bladder decided to cooperate. Apparently my bladder is quite shy!
