Have you guarded your children from the war? Have you turned the TV over to the Cartoon Network instead of CNN? I am alarmed at how much my 5 year old is picking up on. He laid in bed with me this morning and commented that they shouldn't have killed the Mom's and the Kids. I didn't say anything but turned the alarm clock radio off. I just hugged him tighter. What do you think? Michelle in KC grouphug

I don't have children at home any more --- but I still remember when I was a very little girl during World War II. War was and still is extremely frightening for me. I needed to be able to talk to my parents about my fears.
This is only my opinion, but since your little ones are going to hear about it from others, I feel it is better to be open and even bring up the subject so they have an opportunity to share their concerns and you can offer them reassurance.
I don't think it's a good idea for children to watch hours of war on TV, but I wouldn't shoo them out of the room for the evening news.
Again, this only my opinion, but it's pretty difficult to hide a whole war.
Sending an encouraging hug,
Donna

My little one is too young to know anything yet. But I have a nephew 12, and neice 7. They watch some coverage.
But you have to talk to them about what's going on. You know in their little mind's it might be close to them or a friend "said" it was. Even though it's in another country. They need all the reassurance we can give them that this war is to keep everyone safe from bad people.
