This time I am going REAL slow. 25 mg for at least 2 weeks. I took one yesterday, and one today and I already feel very zoned out. I want SO badly for it to work that I'm giving it another try. I keep telling myself if I go very slowly then I've got a chance of getting over the side effects.

So, wish me luck and send me good thoughts that I won't feel as weird on it as I did the last time!

Sandy,
Are you taking it at night? I took it at night around dinner time and I think that helped b/c I was sleeping through the majority of the "brain fog." Just a thought.

Sandy good luck! I get so nervous whenever I have to start a new medication. I always start out very slow and this seems to work best for me.

Keeping everything crossed that can be crossed that you are able to tolerate it this time. :)

Sandy-- How were you taking it before? I know a lot of people take it though out the day. I started out at a low dose 50mg at night. I am now at 150mg - I only take it at night. I think if I took this during the day I would be zonk out of my mind. Good luck and let us know.

Are you taking just one 25 mg.? My doctor wrote me a prescription but he has on it for me to take one twice a day. I think I'll just start with the one to begin with and see how it does. He wanted to take 2 - 25 twice a day for a week them move up to 50 twice a week but I want to take is slow to see how I react to it.

Figured I'd post an update since it's been a while. I'm still on 25 mg and doing fine. I am planning on going up to 50 mg tomorrow. I'm trying to make what I have last til the first of the month when I get my SSDI check so that I can get my refill. I plan on taking 50mg per day for at least 2 weeks, then I'll up it again to 75mg and so on. I really haven't noticed any difference in my pain yet, but I don't expect to at 25 mg per day. I really just wanted to get passed the "DUH" feeling I was having the last time I took it. Going real slow has eliminated that, thankfully.

It's so strange to me that I can take this huge laundry list of medications and not have any problems and this tiny little pill topamax can knock me silly!!!

Anyway, I'm very hopeful this time that it might actually work for me!

Sandy I'm so glad to hear you are tolerating the Topamax this time. I gave up on Atarax back in May because it made me so groggy but I started it again last week and am working my way up slowly and so far it's working. I am also ridiculously sensitive to some medications that don't seem to bother other people at all. I can't take any of the antidepressants (either SSRIs or the tricyclics as they all make me horribly nauseated) but I've been tolerating Elmiron just fine. Go figure. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Sandy
Are you going to take the 50 all at one time, or 25 in the morning and 25 at night?

I will probably take it all at night unless it messes up my sleep patterns. I have trouble sleeping even with the Ambien and Zanaflex sometimes and even the slightest thing will throw my pattern off, even PMS will do it.

It's all trial and error. If I don't do well at night, I'll spread it out during the day and hope that the "duh's" don't hit me too bad.

Thanks for the help! :)

Good Luck Sandy. I think I'll start with 25mg this weekend and hope I don't have any reactions.
