does anyone know if it is okay to have sex when you have a UTI? Is it ok if you were to use a condom? Thanks,

I see by this post that you are living up to your signature line. "I will not allow IC to control me or my life!" ;) Good for you. :)
I don't know if it is okay to have sex while you have a UTI or not. I don't think that is something I would want to do, though. I usually feel awful when I am running an infection. I usually want to be left alone until it goes away.

I always heard that you can pass it back and forth, but I have only had one UTI and believe me, I didn't want to be touched.

I usually dont feel that bad when I have a UTI, and the only thing it does is cause the frequency to go up. I realize that everyone has personal preference but I want to know if it is medically ok to have sex iwth one, as long as we use a condom?

Any doctor will advise you to refrain from sex during a UTI. Symptoms may get worse and if you're not taking an anti-biotic for it, it can cause kidney damage such as a kidney infection. Are you taking a prescription for the UTI?
Also, UTI's cannot be passed back and forth from one person to another. Yeast infections can be though.

yes i am taking five days of cipro for the UTI, so wont that eliminate possibility of kidney infection? i just get these so often that it puts a major damper on the sex life, and i figured if i can physically handle sex during a UTI, if there was no danger to my physical health why not, right?

The best person to ask these questions is your doctor. :)

Just to be safe, it's better to wait until your done with your medication until you have sex. Otherwise, your UTI might not go away even though you're taking Cipro-the sex could put a "stint" on your recovery.

Most doctors recommend to stay away from sex during a UTI. It can be passed to your partner, and then returned to you. It can be a never ending cycle. It can also infame symptoms.

I did some research and some very reputable places stated that UTI's cannot be passed onto your partner and that havign sex during a UTI does not have any physical issues with prolonging the UTI, but it just is personal preference because it can be painful.

That's good to hear. Yes it is definatly personal preference. What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander. Thank for the info.
