Hi Ladies.
Sorry for the ucky subject, I just need some advice. I have hemmroids that are really bothering me. I am not sure what to use. my GI doc gave me some stuff to use, but I cannot since it contains polyethelene glycol, and I am allergic to that. Well he said I could use any of the over the counter things as well. I use to use the prep-H, but read that is has that vascoconstrictor stuff in it, (polehephrine) I may have spelled that wrong. But anyhow, I have read that people with IC should avoid those type meds since they constrict the blood vessels. Would using a hemmroidal cream containing this likely cause issues with the bladder? I know they say not to ever use the epinephrine when going to the dentist and this is likely similar to the stuff in the ointment.
Also, I hate putting anything down there as I fear it will cause a UTI. I have a book I read about cystitis and this lady who wrote the book claims that using anything around the anus (cream etc..) will likely cause cystitis. I guess she means it can spread the ecoli that is normally there into the urethra. I dont know how true that is, but I am paranoid about getting UTI's since I am allergic to all antibiotics and cant take them, so I do not want a UTI.
Anyhow, any suggestions on what is best to use for the hemmroids that wont hurt the bladder? I am not constipated either, so I dont know why the hemmroids are acting up either. Any advice is appreciated.

DO you need a prescription to get the proctofoam?

Jen,

If you are very cleanly, then it should be ok to use Prep-H as long as you are not allergic to it. I used the anal kind, the suppository type. You don't have to believe every single thing you read about what to do or not to do. It's what works for you and what your also what your Doctor has to say. I washed myself from front to back with a very gentle soap called Cetaphil. After I have patted the area dry, I used the anal Prep-H cream and suppositories. I tried a little of it first to see if it would hurt my urethral area. It did not so I tried it. Luckily it was very effective in treating my hemroid that time.

In many cases hemorrhoid treatment involves steps that you can take on your own. But sometimes medications or surgical procedures are necessary. This is where a good Doctor would come in handy. They would be the best at recommending what types of prescrption and OTC medciations you could try to relieve your symptoms. They may suggest over-the-counter creams, ointments or pads containing witch hazel or a topical anti-inflammatory agent containing hydrocortisone. This local treatment, in combination with daily warm baths, may relieve your symptoms. For more serious cases of hemorrhoids that bleed and cause other serious problems, some surgical procedures may be possible to relieve the pain and discomfort.

Maybe the GI Specialist will be helpful in this matter. Please tell them that you have IC and have a very sensitive urinary tract and ask what would be helpful to ease the discomfort of the hemorrhoid but not hurt the IC. Maybe this Doctor can even give your IC Doctor a ring or send a letter asking for assistance or guidance in the situation. Sometimes Doctors are willing to work as a team.

Good Luck to you. I hope some of the others have some good suggestions for you to try!

Go to the pharmacy and get FREEdHEM. It comes with an applicator thatyou put inside so no chance of going anywhere it shouldn't. It looks like tar put you just insert it into the retum and squeeze the tube. My hubby went to the er for hemmorids and tied every med know. This had just come out and the pharmacist said to try it. It worked almost instantly. My father in law had a friend ho had them for years. I told hin about it he used it and was able to sit right for the first time. If they are external you still insert it just put some on your finger and rub gently on the outside. My hubby said once inside it feels like it is melting. the pharmacist said not to sit in a tub for a few hours so you don't dilute it. You use the entire tube in one shot. Do a google search on it if you like. We have it at our house at all times. Not expensive either. Like 10-11 dollars.

I've used Anusol (otc), Tucks pads, and witch hazel soaked gauze pads. All have worked and havent caused any negative side effects.

Feel better soon!
