Does it EVER end??? He had the big bowel resection last July and now he's got a BIG, BIG, BIG hernia right above his navel that has to be repaired. We went to the surgeon today and he said it was one of the biggest hernia's he's ever seen. Because of this what should be an outpatient procedure is now at least a 2 night stay at the hospital.

I'm worried already and he won't even have the surgery til mid September because he's got some work obligations to take care of first. He has terrible reactions to anesthesia and lost 30 lbs in 10 days with his last surgery from vomiting.

At least this surgeon was nice....he even came to the waiting room himself to come get us! I've never seen a doctor do that before. He was very concerned but also very reassuring at the same time. Apparently they have to use a piece of mesh to close the opening in the muscle and it's painful.

I am worried for him and I'm worried that my poor body will give out. I guess if I made it through last years nightmare with the wound that wouldnt heal, the home health nurses, etc, etc, etc, etc then we'll make it through this too.

I just wish for a solid year of peace, quiet, and no pain for any of us.

Sandy,

Sending lots of prayers your way. Hang in there!!

My dad had hernia surgery about 10-12 years ago - sounds like it was very similar to Tom's.

Take care,

April

About 4 years ago, Hubby had double hernia surgery with the mesh inserted. It was painful for about 2 days, but he recovered quickly. I hope Tom's surgery goes well. Not just for him, but for you also. Take care and try not to worry so much. Yes, I know, it is hard when it involves someone we love. (((hugs)))

Sandy,
You guys will make it, you are a great team. If you need a private duty nurse that won't hurt him but will kick him in the keister when he needs it, count me in.

Hugs,
Barb:smile tee

I'm sorry you're going through such a rough time. Our entire past year has been like that...one thing after another...and it bites! Take care of yourself. You are very strong...you will be ok and so will Tom.

Boy, you sure are having a hand full happening. Hope it all goes well for him and you both. Glad you have a doctor that you like. My Uro came and got me from the waiting room with the first procedure that was being done at the hospital. He turned out to be a great doc so your doc might be one too. :grouphug: Will they let you lay down somewhere on a bed while you wait for the operation to be over? Or how about in his room other then sitting in a chair. That can be very hard on the bladder and your body.

My husband had a double hernia repair with the mesh a couple of years ago and has done really well. I made him take off of work for a full week and would not even lift a gallon of milk. I made him take it easy and he has not had any more problems. Tom is going to do well. He will feel so much better when this is taken care of. I will keep you both in my prayers
