Hi Everyone,
I've just finished reading an article by Dr Angela Kilmartin from England. She says that Interstitial Cystitis is caused by Bacteria. She says that the urine should be tested for mycobacteria such as mycoplasma's and ureaplasma's. These bacteria were found in all women who had I.C. These women were treated with the antibiotic Doxycycline in strong doses, and completely recovered. I googled 'Angela kilmartin' and found all this info. Has anyone else read this stuff?

There are many theories about the cause of interstitial cystitis. My personal belief is that there may be many different causes, including multiple infections, trauma (such as from a major surgery), chemical (I know one person who almost certainly has IC from an accidentally over-treated swimming pool), genetics. In my own particular case, I developed IC very soon after an abdominal hysterectomy, which I now refer to as the abominable surgery!
