This morning I was pulled over by the highway patrol. Turns out I had no brake lights at all. I've never been so glad to get a ticket in my life (fix-it ticket). I'd far rather have a cop hand me a piece of paper than to have a truck slam into the back of my car.

Went to the dealership, just needed 3 new light bulbs (have no idea why all 3 went out at once, or maybe they'd burned out 1 at a time & no one told me?). $47.00 later ($24 labor, $23 parts)

So, all in all, a pretty lucky day I guess...

Wow, that is scary! You have a great attitude about it -- safety is so much more important than anything, including a fine and a bit of inconvenience.

I'm going to check our cars tomorrow morning before anyone goes out!

Consider yourself fortunate! Bless that officer for doing what he's paid to do--taking care of citizens.

Glad it was something simple!

What a blessing you were stopped even if you got a ticket....sounds weird to say....but probably saved you from being rear-ended.
The town, Los Fresnos, where I work is a well known speed trap...it's nickname is Los Frenos (the breaks, in Spanish). And they will stop you and ticket you for just 1 mile over the speed limit, but also to give tickets for lights out. Makes me make sure everything is in working order...just a turn signal light out and they will stop me, and make me late for work :lmao:

I am glad that you have brake lights now.. I am wondering why they charged you 47 dollars for 3 bulbs when you could have picked them up at an auto parts store for 2 or 3 dollars a piece.. Dealers sure like to rob people blind. ggrrrr:cussing:

That is scary... I know I have my hubby check my headlights, tail lights, and brake lights periodically. I sit in the car and turn them on and off, and he tells me if they are working. I've seen a lot of cars with these burned out, and I've always worried that they would cause an accident... and I don't want to be that person that causes the accident. I would feel so much guilt!

You have a great attitude :)
