I'd like to continue on with the way we were doing the other thread since is worked very well for all of us. This is "A Photo A Day, Part 2

I've been getting ready for guests this weekend. This is my guest room. I was working with different lighting but I really just wanted to get a shot of the bed.
I look foward to seeing your daily photos, especially the flowers and landscapes, mother nature, and the little critters we find. It's a nice show and tell thread.
Thanks,

I would love to do something like that. OMG. I am just blown away. It was very peaceful to look at and listen to right before hitting the pillow.

G'day everyone.:hi: I'm away for a few weeks and not only have there been SO many gorgeous photographs but loads new posters and now that thread is closed!
Actually, the truth be known, shhhhhhhhhhhhhh! don't tell any one, but I have TOO JEALOUS of all these new dslr's that I wasn't going to post again till I had one of my own. :lmao: Alas!:( its looks like the next millenium will arrive before I get one !!!!!
Anyhoo, I couldn't stay away from you lot that long. I haven't been taking many photos lately so I have dug around in the old photo file for some to share. I know it doesn't quite fit into the "photo a day" theme but here goes awyway. I hope I haven't had these up before...forgive an old lady's corrupted memory :lmao:
These shots were taken in the heart of Melbourne featuring our much loved trams. This is the Bourke Street mall.

This is one of my favourite shots. It looks like a mural but is actually the side of a tram. Many of them are decorated in all sorts of designs.

PS... the cute little white haired girl wearing the dark top and grey skirt in the far left of the second pic, is my daughter Hilary.

Janie,
Thank you for the info on the awesome slide show you did. I'm going to try to find that one because I am in too much pain and too tired to shop around.
Rosalie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO GOOD TO SEE YOU!!!! The side of a tram is so cool. It would be awesome to see the front of your Daughter.
Sometimes I dig around for a photo that I took previously if I am too sick to put up a brand new one.
Photoboy Do you have any more photos for us? Looking foward to seeing more of them.
My Photo for Today: This was taken at the Renaissance Festival
These were real roses that were for sale that had sparkles all over. They were so pretty. It was hard to get a shot of them because they were being carried around the Festival in baskets so they were moving targets.

Jane--thanks for the well wishes. The ol' bladder is still playing up a bit..hoping this passes very soon!
Kara--lovely rose pictures! :) A shame that you couldnt have gotten a still shot though. Hope the car situation is working itself out quickly. :)
Sharon--where might you be..at the cabin? :hmm:
Rosalie--nice to see you've joined us again.
I found out a couple of days ago that my son was "employee of the month" last month. He works in a high-end casual restaurant; his official position is busser, however his boss has really taken a liking to him so he's been training him throughout the restaurant and has promised him a full-time position when he graduates this year from HS.
While this isnt him in his work attire, I still wanted to post his pic. This was taken a couple of days ago, against his will, of course!..:tsk: :lmao:

Hi everyone,
Another photo from the Northern Ontario trip on July 1, 2007. The area presents many great photo subjects, just like this little guy.
I spent allot of my childhood hiking, fishing and canoeing the beauty of this area. I now live in a huge metropolis and nothing compares to the serenity of this landscape. When I return to it each year, I'm totally rejuvinated. I know I will some day make this my home once again.
I would recommend it to anyone to take a trip up to Northern Ontario, Canada. You will not be disappointed and if your a photography enthusiast, you fall in love with what you see and capture.
Kara great pictures!! Everyone's pictures look great!! Well I have my gear packed and I'm heading out for a hike on Sunday. It won't be like Northern Ontario, but I hope to come back with some interesting photos. I'll be heading back to Northern Ontario for a week in September, just in time for the fall colours.
Have a great weekend everyone!

:hi: Everyone. Yes, it's me and yes, D, I was at the Cabin. The owner was in with her 5 children, so her mother, another friend and I went up to join in on all the fun. I left Hubby at home to continue on with the work on the bathroom while I was out shopping and eating and, (in the evening) playing games with those great kids. I returned home in the late afternoon on Thursday to a usable shower. The doors aren't installed as yet, but Hubby bought a tension rod and shower curtain so, yesterday morning I took the very 1st shower in the marble shower. It is wonderful.
I have been catching up on all the postings and pictures. You guys have been very busy while I was away.
Ro...It is about time you showed yourself. I have missed you. Those Tram pictures are very interesting. I am so fascinated with your pictures of the Land Down Under. So, your Hilray still has the white hair, does she? I remember when you first posted her picture after she had it done.
Janie...I was mesmerized by your slide show. It was absolutely wonderful.
Kara...It also took me a few looks to figure out what was going on in your action pic, but once I did, I was very impressed that you were able to capture the action so well. Action photos are not easy to do and you did it well. I agree, it should be published. And those rose pictures are very good. Thank you so much for fixing up your guest room for me. Now I know where I will stay if I ever find myself in your part of the country.
Photoboy...I have enjoyed your shots of the fauna. They are so interesting. I don't think I would have had the courage to take those shots no matter how far away from the bears I stood.
D...Say :hi: to your son for me. That orange what ever its name is flower is spectacular. So, you have those pesky squirrels, also. Where is Bullwinkle?
It's so good to be home!!!!!!!

Oh, oh, oh...I forgot to mention...
Allison...That waterfall pic is very good. The Rocky Mountains are a marvel. What are the little white flowers?
D...The "I Spy" is so much fun. I also enjoyed your self portraits. Well...Your sorta self portraits. :lmao:
Kara...I am so sorry to hear about your car. I remember when my Hubby backed into our Suburban with our Prius...CRUNCH!!!! It made him so angry with himself. Both vehicles belong to somebody else, now. :lmao:

Sharon---:woohoo: you've returned well rested and refreshed from the cabin!..And how wonderful to come home to a new luxuriuos marble shower!! :woohoo: Hopefully the doors will be installed very soon!
Regarding Bullwinkle--my husbands nickname is "moose", does that count for anything?..hahaha..A friend started calling us "Moose and Squirrel" more than 10 years ago and it's stuck with us..haha..........Glad you enjoyed my 'self-portrait'--the more of my face thats behind the lens, the better!..hahaha..yikes!
And I forwarded your "hello" to my offspring..:D

All these floral pics are making me wish I had something in the garden to photograph. Its winter, so my Wattle should be coming out soon..it may have already done so but its too bloody cold to go out to look!:lmao:
Photoboy, is that a fox? Do you have problems with them in the States? They are ferral here and for many years had a bounty on their hides.
Diana, the first flower in your last post,I have always known them as them ScotchThistles but I think they are one of the artichoke family. And, If looks could kill! You would be cactus after taking that pic of your son. He doesn't look too pleased! I love the lillies and the little 'daddy-long-legs' spider. Do you have problems with the squirrells? Its the possums here that cause havoc in the roofs! Fortunately, there aren't too many out this side of the city.
Shazza! Thanks! Its great to be back. I just didn't seem to get time for the pc for a while there let alone too many photo opps. Anything I post for while may still be dug out of the archives if thats ok. You sound like you had a fantastic time up at the cabin. I am currently teaching my 18yr old daughter to drive and tomorrow I hope to take her out on the highway for a long trip. Hopefully, I will get some photo opportunities. At least I know she (being a photography student) won't complain about stopping to shoot something.
AJ, I have a 22yr old son here who is available Hahahaha:lmao: I keep telling him not to bother himself about picking a girlfriend... I will gladly do that for him! I'm sure you can imagine his reply
Janie, as always, your photographs are stunning and I thoroughly enjoyed your slideshow, fantastic! You are going to have to set up a tutorial thread to teach how to do all these things!
Kara, Love the roses. They are, of course, my favourite introduced flower.
Yes, Hilary still has her white hair and guess who has the job of retouching the blonde roots? ME! Grrrrrrrrrrr.
here is what her hair used to look like. I cried at the thought of all that gorgeous natural blonde(except for the pink bits!) going down the sink with the bleach.

And as she is now... And from the front hahahahaha...........
Plus...the new Nose piercing...now this I absolutely HATE! Fortunately she swivels it back so I don't have to look at it at home.It still grosses me out Argh!!!!!!!!

Ok I am going to have a bit of a brag here. Hilary's band Miss White and the Diamonds won a local "battle of the bands" earlier this month and won a recording session in the city.
You can hear them on their MySpace if you are interested................Yeah! yeah! I know, but in defence of myself, I'm not quite the 'stagedoor mum' as yet!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi Rosalie,
Yes that is a fox in the previous picture. We don't have much problems with them in Canada. You mentioned the US, but I live in Canada.
We try to preserve nature as much as we can, as many species of animals in the world are becoming less and less. I prefer to photograph them and just enjoy the moment.
If we all do our part we will all be able to enjoy a site like this for many more generations to come.
Cheers!

Hi Everyone
An amazing general store along Lake Superior's shores in Northern, Ontario, Canada. This wonderful general store was located little ways into the entrance in a provincial park. There were all kinds of home made goods available for purchase. The aroma of those fresh pies caught my attention when I was driving along. Couldn't leave without having a slice and a cup of tea. I purchased a few goods as well.
I'm glad I got to spend some time in this store. Definitely will make it a stop for future trips.
You can't miss the blue exterior colour!

The finest teas and gifts.

Photoboy...Now you've gone and done it. I am hungry for pie!!!!!
Janie...Your product photo is so pretty. I love the white pearls on the red box. The black stone in the ring is great with the background and the white shine in the stone is just the right sparkle. Well done. Did you win the challenge?
Ro...I am with you about the nose ring. Then again, I am a bit too old for such things. It is very considerate that she turns it for you.
D...I love the Lilies but can do without the spider. Do you think your son would allow you to take a picture of him with him smiling? I know, I know...but just one?

I have a bit of catching up to do with our photos.
Janie, So Vivid. It looks like you can reach out and touch it.
Photoboy, That General Store reminds me of some of the country stores in New England. I love shops that are unique like that and not your everyday mall shop. I also love your nature/animal photos.
Rosalie, Your Daughter is beautiful with both blonds. I like the lighter one better but I think it's my age. I also have a nose stud. I've had it for 6 years now. It's tiny and nonobtrusive. Going by her hair is she Miss White? I'd love to hear her music.
Diana, Those lilies remind of my wedding bouquet. I'm not fond of Spiders but my Husband used to have a Tarantula. Those Orange Flowers are STUNNING. I need to learn my flowers.
Sharon, Bed and Breakfast at the Meadows is now open to IC guests. Please give a few days notice for your reservation. Tee Hee!! I wish....
I don't have much to post Today but we did have some fun togehter.

Photoboy--that place you describe sounds very similar to a place I fell in love with in Arizona. It was a small indoor/outdoor cafe that sold THE BEST homemade baked goods I've ever had! It was halfway up a mountain--could miss it if you werent looking, except for the smell of the food! Unfortunately it burned down in a brush fire 2 years ago..sad sad thing to have happen!
Jane--your jewelry picture could be used in an advertisement! Well done!
Sharon--hmmmmm, not sure I could get my son to smile for the camera. Funny thing, he smiles all the time except for when a camera is aimed in his direction..haha..Now, saying that, he has an appointment this Wednesday to have his Sr. portraits taken--I'm hoping the photographer can get at least one shot of him with a smile on his face. And you know i'm going to have my camera with me so as not to miss any great photo opps! :)..Fortunately I used to work at this photo studio and know the majority of the photographers so taking my camera along *shouldnt* be a problem..we shall see! :)
Kara---haha..we were posting at the same time. Looks like you and your company had a good time--everyones smiling and looking lovely!
Until I can get the offspring to smile, I'll post another garden pic...

Photo for Today:
This is a photo from the Middle Eastern Festival that we went to this weekend. The food was so incredibly good and the culture was so beautiful. We were able to walk there because it was very close to our front yard.
Again I am tackling the issue of the moving subjects. I was taking this photo while I was sitting. We were not allowed to stand and take photos. I had to just keep clicking and did not have time to set everything up. I'm feeling very overwhelmed with my camera right now. When I have time to shoot and there is no pressure around me, I feel better.

Kara--you are one festival going individual! Sounds like you had a good time at this last one..:).
I'm assuming you were a bit flustered due to trying to capture a moving subject? If this is the case, if your camera is a point and shoot, try using the sports mode setting. If its a DSLR try using the shutter priority mode and set it at 1/1000 second and boost the ISO a bit. :)
I took a late night stroll along the oceanfront last night. Came back with a few fun pictures.

Diana I really like that tree photo. Was that naturally like that?
I like trees. They remind me of strength and power. I will take your ideas for the moving subjects and use the sports setting and try that shutter speed and the ISO.
I am posting this for my Husband. He took it on Saturday Night while us girls were in bed laughing and being silly.

Photoboy, Sorry I didn't realize you were a Canadian. My Nephew married the most lovely girl from Ontario.I would love to visit there one day. And, mu girlfriends daughter was an exchange student for 3 months and had a fantastic time. I like the way you have presented your photos. It really adds to the look.
Kara, I have to admit that I have gotten used to the white hair and, on any other girl I would say 'wow thats cool!' Hahahahaa. As for the name, I have to laugh cause the Miss White is what the girls call the garage they rehearse in. It was those girls that encouraged Hilz to bleach her hair and now they get very miffed when people assume she is the 'Miss White'.Hmmmmmmmmm, poetic justice in my mind. This is their myspace address www.myspace.com/misswhiteandthediamonds. The sound isn't too good,it was recorded at some of their gigs. They have won a professional recording session and, as soon at that is finished it will go onto the site.
Diana, A smile! how lovely. He is a goodlooking young man. I really like the tree shot.....not so sure about the noahs!
Janie, your product shot is very effective and t he one from the festival, very bright and colourful.
I didn't get out as I had hoped yesterday so I scrounged around the garden for this photo.

Theres been a terrible situation thats suddenly come up in my family, specifically regarding my son. I am so completely desperate for postive thoughts and prayers at the moment and unfortunately for many more days ahead. If you could find it in your hearts to remember my son in your thoughts and prayers today and in the future, I will be forever grateful. Words cannot express how deeply saddened, hurt and desperate I am right now.
Thank you all.....

Dear Diana,
From the wonderful help of Janie, I have tried one of these slide show programs. It's just a start but I wanted to dedicate it to Diana for everything that she is going through right now.

I hope most of you are enjoying a nice, bright day.

I was not sure this was real when I saw it. I wanted to jump in and take the photo in the water. I guess that is what better cameras and macro lenses are for.

Diana,
The Oxygen Bar is Quite Interesting. I've never seen one. Is it the same sort of oxygen that you get when you are in the hospital? Hmmmmmmm. It's gotten my wheels turning. It's started a big coversation between Allen and I. Very Cool.
Have you ever been to one?
Kara

Well, an oxygen bar is just that, a place where you go breathe pure oxygen at about a 40-50% concentration. The cylindrical dodads inside the tank are filled with scented water (the customer chooses the scent); the customer gets a nasal cannula; oxygen is fed through the liquid into the cannula. There was an argument about how safe this practice was since breathing pure oxygen for excessive time frames can be deadly. However the American Lung Association finally stepped in and concluded that breathing that concentration of oxygen for 20 minutes or so (20 minutes is generally the longest most places offer) is not harmful to a healthy individual; and that if nothing else causes the person to pay more attention to their breathing technique (taking longer slower breaths), thus allowing the lungs to inflate/deflate properly, which in turn causes the person to feel better after the experience; so part mind of matter, part science.
I went to one in Vegas two years ago and found it to be rather interesting and relaxing.
Glad the picture brought up some conversation. And you learned something new today..haha..Cant argue with education!

OK, I must confess, i like when you i get oxygen in the er/hospital. sometimes I even request it because when i get pain meds in my IV I get very panicky and feel like I can't breathe. I LOVE oxygen.:smile tee
There are worse vices, right??

I have to say I like Oxygen too, except when they are putting it in too fast or too hard. But when it's just right.........it's just right:smile tee
I took some photos of my small City last night. I'm sure there will be day outings to capture the artichecture closer. I'd also like to go down to the Syracuse University Campus and take some photos. It's gorgeous.
I had to share the camera with my Husband last night and it didn't go over so well because we each felt pressure to hurry up so we could switch. I think I'd like to go solo next time. I didn't learn anything either because I spent most of the time trying to make sure my Husband was having a good time............it was not the greatest of moods with him. Oh we all have our days. Kara...I loved the second one. Great lighting and star feature. What is the building in the last one? Hope you have a good time on your trip.
I don't know anything about Oxygen Bars, but I am constantly reminded that people will buy anything new and curious. Even something you can get for free in any park, forest or place where there are lots of trees. Nothing beats the freshness of a Pine Forest.

Hi Everyone!
I'm truly enjoying all your pictures! Great pictures Kara! I really love the night shots. Sounds like you may need a second camera in the household..:)
Keep them coming! I'm just enjoying a day off today. Not doing much, just allot of reading. It's quite hot and humid out. The lazy, hazy, days of summer. Fall is my favourite month. It's great to get out and do some picture taking.
This picture is of a friend's Arabian horse named "Forest". I took it in the stable. I used Photoshop to add a bit of a dreamy effect and also created the frame around it.

I'm not sure which buliding in the last photo. But that big bubble like thing is the Domerina. They hold a lot of conventions there and concerts. I haven't gotten out in this city until now so I am unfamiliar with most of them. I guess I better get a move on it huh? Like I don't know my flowers either....

Ok, feel free to beat me for being absentee, lol. Wow, I swear July flew by, I hardly remember it, lol. Between work and home, I have been running and gunning like a mad woman, and sorry to say but I am ready for fall!!! ;) I need things to calm down again, I so miss my "me" time!!!!
I am sooooo behind, ugh, sorry about that gang! Every time I thought I had a chance to pop in, well, I somehow jinxed myself, lol. And I even had uploaded a bunch of photos to Photobucket to be ready and prepared, and I think they've gathered quite a bit of cyber-dust! :)
So, anyway, here's a couple to share, hope to have some new ones soon....
My mini-roses:

And lastly, another Chipmunk, "Piggy":

The chippies now all see me coming, lol. It's pretty bad when you have to sneak in and out of your house when you aren't ready for their snack time yet, one comes running and runs around my feet like crazy - one of these days I am afraid I am going to step on her! She also scratches on the front door....yikes....

Tracey Welcome Back! We've missed seeing you around here. :hi:
I love the photo of your chipmunk. How CUTE!!
I look foward to seeing more when you get around to it.
Didn't think I was going to have anything to add today. I was on my way home from the library, walking up my stairs when I looked at my neighbor's door. Something didn't look right to me. I looked up and saw this fruit bat. We never see this critters during the day so I am hoping that he's not hurt or sick. It was about 95 degrees here today, which is hot for us.

OMGosh...Tracey!!! Is it really you???? I can't believe it. I thought you had run away from home. I guess it is time to get that wet noodle out of storage.
So you are a Chipmunk Wangler. Reminds me of my Grandmother. She used to feed the Chipmunks in her yard by hand. Still waiting for that e mail you promised.
D...You think Bats are adorable? I think they are just spooky. I remember an evening at my Grandparents house when I was a young lass. I was out catching Lighting Bugs when a Bat swooped down and tried to grab a claw full of my hair. Ever since then, I have been leery of Bats.
Oh, and have I told you the story of the night I was driving home from working while in my younger adult years when I hit a Bat with the windshield of my car. My Ex removed it with a butcher knife when I got home. Nope...Don't like them critters.
Kara...You are one brave lady to get so close to that scary creature.
For Kara...Sending this to you for your surgery

Guess what guys!!!!!!!! The shower doors are in our garage. Hubby went and picked them up this morning. Don't know when he will get them installed, but I am so excited. I just hope we like them. There is no turning back if we don't. They were cut to fit our shower opening and unless they are broken, they will not take them back. I WILL LIKE THEM...I WILL LIKE THEM.

Sharon,
Those Flowers are BEAUTIFUL! That color pink is so soothing to me. I will think of those flowers as they are putting me under.
Diana,
The bat......my neighbor finally noticed it 10 minutes before Allen came home (I so wanted him to see it because he LOVES bats) They tried to kill it, when I came out and started yelling at them to just shooo it away. After falling on the steps it flew away.....I was upset. I hope it survived.
Photo for Today: I was at the pool for most of the afternoon. I caught the beginning of a Thunderstorm. (Had to walk back to my house because my car is in the shop from my stupid tree accident)

Sharon--I enjoyed your bat encounter stories..hahaha..But cant you look past those frightening incidents and see the cuteness???..their furry little bodies, the little boney legs, cute little beedy eyes............:)...........
:woohoo: for your shower doors! You must take a pic once theyre installed. And remember your mantra.."I will like them! I will like them!"..:)
Kara--shame about your neighbors wanting to kill the bat! :( I'm a lover of all animals/creatures and just cant see hurting something simply out of fear. Hopefully the little guy went on about his way to his home and is a happy little camper.:)
I have to say that I'm a bit envious of you having access to a pool! It was 97 here today-I would have done almost anything to be around a pool!

Kara...Love the cloud picture. I have always loved it when the sun is shinning behind clouds = silver lining. Isn't it amazing to watch those Thunder Clouds build.
D...That Pink Elephant is so cute. Don't worry...I see the elephant, too. :lmao: Your city sure likes statues.
More Bat stuff...
Hubby and I are huge fans of "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel. On one of the shows, Mike Rowe (the hunky host) went into a huge bat cave in Austin, Texas where he ended up knee deep in Bat poo (guano). He even got stuck in the stuff. YUCK!!! Made my skin crawl.
But, the one good thing I can say about Bats is that they eat mosquitoes :) while they fly around looking for little girl's hair to grab and windshields to crash into. :tsk:
Kara29

Sharon,
My Husband loves that Dirty Jobs. We love the host. I do remember seeing that episode but it never registered the day I had our little visitor.
Diana,
You are welcome to come to NY and swim in my pool anytime you'd like! It's on a hill with a brook behind it so you can hear the wind through the trees and the water rolling behind you. It's really nice to read by. I actually started swimming half laps. I thought I had forgotten how to swim because I haven't really swam since I was diagnosed with IC. I remembered........I won't be able to do much for 4-6 weeks after the surgery. I hope the pool is still opened when I heal.
The elephant? I think I am really slow here. What does it represent? The town my parents live in, where I am from has this thing with painted horses everywhere. I am not sure what it's about. A few towns over toward the lake they have these painted elks. I guess important people sign them like a cast. I was wondering if the elephant occurs anywhere else where you live?
If I can get my Husband off of the darn computer we are going back to Bever Lake today. I'm sure we will have some photos by the end of the day to share.
BIG HUGS!!!

Mike Rowe=pecs to knock on!!!! :woohoo: thats all I'm sayin' 'bout that! :)
Sharon--whew! I'm glad you were able to see the pink elephant too!..hahaha!..I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for bats! They come out at night around here too. Your bat story reminded me of swimming in my neighbors grandma's pool; the bats would swoop down and grab at your head or whatever else happened to be sticking out of the water..:D
Kara--the pink elephant is just a statue that adorns the Jungle Golf (mini-golf) course at the oceanfront. There are all kinds of 'wild animals' lingering around the course.:). Now, regarding city symbols--the dolphin is the city symbol for Va Beach, while Norfolk has the mermaids (i posted some pics several pages back (or on the last photo thread).
Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Hopefully the pool will still be open once you're all recovered! :)

I have enjoyed this thread so much! :) I love seeing pictures of all of you and especially the places where you live since I travel mostly in Mexico, not much in the US.
I will post some pix when I get back to work and my up-to-date computer mid August. My OLD computer at home doesn't work with my new dig camera. I will need some guidance though, on how to post pix and use photobucket. Don't tell me now...I'll forget!:)
But keep the pictures coming.
I'm particularly interested in pictures of the Seattle, Washington, Oregon area. Have heard that is a beautiful part of the US.

Yes, the Washington Oregon area is beautiful. It rains so much here that everything is always so green.
I need to get myself a camera so I can contribute to this thread. There are so many areas here that are so beautiful. Besides, I am going to be a grandma again and want to take pictures of my new grandbaby.
I don't even know what to look for in a camera. I want something that I can transfer to my computer of course. Can anybody give me any pointers on what to look for in a camera?

LOL, I'm not in any way a dig camera expert, but I have a Kodak EasyshareCw330. And yes, it is easy to use :) It's a couple levels up from the base model, but wish I had one that had a larger view screen, or whatever it's called. Took me just 10 minutes to learn how to charge and load batteries and memory card, take some pix, and email them (THAT WAS REAL SLOW) I'm tech challenged, so I would call that EZ :) It's also in the lower price range and the 4 x 6 photos I've had developed have been perfect. I had to buy a special adapter for the USP and memory card to use it at work, since that computer doesn't have an insert place for the card, but I think most newer computers have that. That's the full extent of my dig camera knowledge.:lmao:

Sharon,
Thank for the flowers. That color is in my living room.
To Everyone,
Before I go off to my surgery, I wanted to leave you all with something that I worked on until 2AM yesterday. We went back to Beaver Lake and had another ball of a time. We wanted to share again, our experiences there. I thought (thanks again to Janie) that the best way to share it would be a slide show. It takes about 10 minutes or so long.
Happy Viewing!
Love and Hugs to you all!!!!

Regarding digital cameras--the best thing to do is keep an eye on the sale papers and when a camera catches your eye do a bit of research about the particular camera on the manufacturers website. You basically cant go wrong with anything from Canon, Olympus or Nikon.
Hope everyone had a restful weekend!

Hello gang!
Kara, wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and hoping today goes well!!!!
Ok, I too love Norm! All I could think of was the show Cheers when "Norm" would walk in and they'd all yell "NORM!", lol. Yes that was a bit redundant, but oh well... ;)
And now on to bats. That is so funny that you saw one during the day, as I had just had a bat experience a week or so ago. I was walking back out to my truck to come back to work after lunching at home, and stopped to give Flora her seeds (the munk that lives in the East flower bed, lol) and something swooped by me, but not flying like a bird, I at first thought butterfly or something. So, I start walking again, and noticed it was a bat! We usually only see them at dusk when they come out and start circling the yard on the prowl for skeeters and what not, never have I seen them during the day! As I get to my truck, I look down the side of the house, and there are two of them! One hanging from the new soffit (sp??) we put in, and the other swooping around. By the time I got my camera, they were gone...bummer.
And then, when I was still married to my first husband, I got up in the middle of the night to pee (big surprise there, eh?) and I looked down the hallway and saw something "out of place". Something was there. And it reminded me of a how a big ash will float out of a bonfire sort of thing, just floating there. I flipped on a light, and looked and it was a bat hanging from the ceiling, lol! So, I wake upthen-husband who's terrified of rodents etc, and he's freaking out. So, I go downstairs, get a big box and a cookie sheet without a raised edge. I have him put the box over the bat and I slide the cookie sheet between it and the ceiling (very carefully) and kept it over top of the box, and laughed as he about fell down the front steps in effort to get outside, lol. Ex and bat were fine, lol. BUT, the weirdest thing of all, was just that day or the day before on our way to Home Depot I had told him I wanted him to either make me a bat house or we needed to buy one so they wouldn't come in our house, as I had just read an article on how useful they are etc. We had NEVER had a bat in our house before...did I jinx myself??
Well, I'll have to get my latest and greatest pics in - from my 20 yr class reunion this past Saturday night, yikes. That was interesting!! But we had a good time, I think hubby though had TOO good of a time...grrrrrr.....LOL
Off to lunch and will get working on some more pics, I just noticed it's time to scoot for lunch, yay!!!!

Hi Tracey!!! Since you mentioned bats, I have a story. I was in Florida last month. The guys in our family went to play golf and since there was an odd number, I decided to go for a ride along so my hubby wouldn't have to be by himself. Anyway...we had all stopped at the turn (which I found out was at the halfway mark LOL. When I got out of the cart, I saw this little brown thing that looked like it was stuck to the curb on the golf cart path. My nephews and I were looking at it. At first we thought it was a dead mole or something. Of course, my curiosity got the best of me, so I used one of the golf clubs to kind of knock it down. It was a little bitty bat WITH LOTS OF TEETH! It was then on it's back and not too happy with me. I was afraid that the next group would come along and run over it. plus it was so hot on the concrete. So I picked it up with a paper plate and placed it under some pine trees near by. Of course the entire time the guys in my family were freaking out! I am a huge animal lover, so I don't want to see anything get hurt. I went back to check on it and it was kind of crawling away. I was going to take it's picture, but my hubby put his foot down and told me that I had tempted fate enough with just moving it!

Tracey,
I'd love to see the photos of the 20 year class reunion! How fun that must have been :)
Tracey83,
I love your bat story. It's so hard having a Husband sometimes. They seem to buzz kill a lot of what we want to do in life. I wish you had gotten a photo of it on the plate.
I'm still thinking of the Norm Picture. My Husband is a magnet for most animals he's the one that took the photo of that fawn that came right up to him as well. The squirrel, there's another one that came right up to him and just looked at him like he was a friend. I love animals too but I am not that good with the camera yet.
Hi Sharon!!!:hi: :hi:
Mel, The 2nd song is from Merry Poppins.
I'm going to lay down now. I am really depressed about a special job I almost had that would get my Husband and I out of sinking water with our finaces but it fell through. I can't stop the tears I am so dissapointed.
I'm sorry I don't have anything to post today for photos. Been in the Hospital for 2 days now.
My Doctor thinks that if I am lucky I will get 30-33% pain reduction from this surgery but not my life back. I guess once I am over the healing stage I can go back to having fun in the sun and taking photos but never back to work.
I don't know where else to put this but you all feel like family to me.

Kara, he probably would have let me, but I kind of have a history with trying to save animals. We had a mouse in our house a few times where we used to live. We lived close to a cotton field. We would do our best to catch the mice alive so that I could let them go far away from the house. One time I had noticed that my syrup had spilled in my food closet. I decided that I would clean it up the next morning since it was already getting late. The next morning, I went downstairs and to my amazement, a mouse was caught in the syrup. This was way before digital cameras, so I didn't take a picture, but I did pick up the mouse and tried to wash it's feet so that I could let it go. Again my husband was there telling me to let him handle it. I knew how he would handle it, so I took over. Well, during the washing of the feet, the mouse bit a chunk out of my finger. Needless to say, my love of wildlife went quickly out of my head. I opened my back door and and threw him. Of course my garage door was still down, so he hit the door and slowly rolled (due to the syrup) down the door. The thought of this still cracks me up!
When I got to work, I was telling my co-workers and not thinking anything about it being a wild animal and might have a disease. One of my co-workers said that I should probably call my doctor. I called and they told me that it was unlikely for a mouse to carry rabies, but it might be a good idea to get a shot anyway, especially since it drew blood. When I got back to work, the girls at work had gone to a nearby Hallmark and bought a ceramic mouse. They put a little sign on it for me to wash his feet!
I still love wild animals. I stopped on a busy street not long ago when I saw a box turtle trying to get across the street. I pulled into a driveway and ran and got the turtle and let it go in the woods nearby. My husband couldn't believe that I risked my life for a stupid turtle, but at least the turtle didn't bite me! LOL! I have tried to save birds, rabbits, and even fed raccoons that I thought were starving. I had one raccoon that loved Oreos. He would open it up (like you see on the commercials) and eat the inside first. I do have a picture of that somewhere, but it was years ago! Feeding the raccoons turned out to be a bad idea, since they just kept bringing their friends the next day. I am sure they put the word out on the street, that I threw out my leftovers. My neighbors weren't too happy, so I finally had to stop.

Your mouse story was cute! :)

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been missing from action. I've been very busy working my two jobs and trying to rest in between. It's been a financial nightmare since I've been diagnosed with my IC. I'm sure many of you can relate. Unforunately I don't have a second person working in my household. I'm a single man and have to provide for myself. Even on my worst days I have to get myself to work. I have no choice otherwise I sink further. I lost a 12 year manangement job back in 2002 when diagnosed. My company unjustly let me go ,because of my absense due to my IC. It was a turning point in my life financially. Well here I am 5 years later still moving like freight train...lol. I don't know what keeps me going. Probably my strong belief in my faith.
I've spent some time looking at all your pics. They are all great! Maybe it's time to get a coffee table book published and have the proceeds go to IC research. We could call it. "A Photo A Day Keeps The Doctor Away" a photographic perspective through the eyes of IC patients. Jill I hope you read this post...:).
Anyhow I should have some new pictures in the next little while. It's been to hot to get out, but there's some relief on the way.
Kara, I wish you a speedy recovery! Your an inspiration to each and everyone of us.
Keep Click'n!
Cheers!

Yes, D and here I am a THIRD time, now you all know how special you are for me to do that! LMAO!! Just kidding just kidding!!! ;)
Kara Hmmm, are there any cute docs in that hospital you could take photos of to take your mind off the yuckiness going on?? ;) Shoot, if it were D, she'd probably have photos of bedpans, IV machines, magazines, toilet paper etc, you know that crazy woman with photos of her breakfasts!!! I too am soooooo sorry to hear of that job falling through - but I am a big believer of D's theory, if it was meant to be it would have been - it just means something even better is going to come along!! Keep your chin up! I know all about financial messes these days, with the new business and all, and NO paychecks, hubby's shouldering it all himself, bless his heart! So, I am pulling for you and crossing everything I can that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and SOON for you! :kissing:
D Yes, you must keep your eyes open for bats, I certainly hope they are the harbingers of good tidings, lol. I must check up on my bat lore!! And cows - gotta love em!! I remember once pulling over on the side of the road on one of our many country backroads around here next to a field of cows. It was almost spooky how they all started to look over at us...very slooooooowly, lol. I just wanted to give them all kisses!! So cute!!
T83 Hey Tracey!!! You and I are one in the same in the "Rescue the Animals" thing, lol. I always save any mice that get in my house, want to help them before the cat(s) "help" them, lol. On more than one occasion, my ex would tell me "Tracey, they are just going to come right back in!" Oh well, gotta do what I gotta do!!!! I must say I am surprised you got to the washing of the feet stage of that scenario! I am now going to call you "The Mouse Whisperer", ;)
Photoboy61 Greetings!! Nice to see you back! Hmmm, people are going to think we disappeared together, lol, since our returns have coincided, lmao!!!! Ah, just kidding gang!!!:D Oh boy do we all (I am sure) know the financial stories well, ugh. I was going through a divorce when I was diagnosed, so here I was, no health insurance, just lost 2/3 of the household income when he moved out, and new mortgage to pay since I bought him out of the house - I was a disaster. I too have no clue how I managed to make it to work every day, when it felt like some days I would have to crawl out to the car in the mornings, ugh. Just goes to show we are all tough cookies no matter what we or anyone else may think!! I do look forward to seeing some photos from you - I too was going to take some last night, but too hot, muggy and buggy out! Bleck! LOVE the idea of the coffee table book too!!!!
Sharon I had to laugh at "Cows ---- Meat!" lmao!! It reminds me of when we go out fishing, none of us eat the fish, so it's usually catch and release, or we give it away to those who will eat it. But, the guys are always wishing that cows lived in the water and that we were fishing for cows, lol. Good grief, steaks on the brain!!!! :biglaugh:
Suebee Nice to see you!!!! Looking forward to those park pictures!!!:smile tee

Sorry I have been MIA for a week. I went to KY to take my mom home and it has taken some time to get settled back in here at home. I've been thinking about you all though.
Kara, sure hope you feel better soon. I know you will be so happy to get your surgery behind you. You and Diana have been taking some lovely photos. Diana, which camera are you finding you like to use the most?
Leslie, sorry that your little one has broken her arm. That must be a challenging situation for everyone.
While I was home I took these photos of my sister's Bengal cat. I took a whole lot of human portraits too. I've been practicing my studio portrait work.
Spend more time in photoshop processing them than actually taking the photos though. What a pain! I want to someday get to be a really good photographer so I don't have to do any work in photoshop at all!
Thankfully the kitty shots turned out well and I didn't have to do anything to them.

Leslie--hope your daughters arm heals quickly!
Jane--very cool cat pics! :cat: You must have been right there waiting in order to get the kitty in mid-yawn :).
I'm partial to the Canon mainly due to having already owned a Canon (the PS G6). And never mind the fact that Kev has helped himself to the Olympus! :lmao: I'm a bit irritated though as he gets better results than I do and he claims to be totally clueless!

Kara...That plant looks very much like a bottle brush (a real one...not a flower). I googled "bottle brush" and, from the search, I don't think that is what it is since the info I found was about a tree/bush. Maybe you could take the picture to a nursery and ask someone there.
D...Like bats, I have no use for snakes, so I guess I won't be joining everyone at this lake. :tsk:
Jane...It is good to have you back. I love those cat pictures. Especially the first one.
Leslie...She looks absolutely miserable. :(

Sharon--what do you think the oars are for besides rowing?--snake-whacking! Should a snake fall into your canoe, you just whack it with an oar then fling it overboard. :lmao: So please rethink backing out of a leisurely row down the river..it wouldn't be the same w/o you! :D
Leslie--that picture is hilarious! Brings back memories of sleep overs, thats for sure. However, I use to always end up being the butt of the prank instead of the prankster. Such memories are: being covered head to toe in shaving cream; waking up to find my bra had been submerged in a Ziploc back full of water and tossed into the freezer; marker-enhanced "make-up"..aaaaahhhhh, the list goes on..:lmao:

D...I loved the tall ship. My best friend many years ago joined the Coast Guard. He was on the Polar Sea, an ice breaker. Interesting picture of the mounted cops. Great Photos Everyone!!!
I have a lot of healing to do from my surgery. It was pretty extensive. I thought I was doing better than I am. I'm having problems with a bowel obstruction at the moment and bleeding from the surgery site.
My Mom had her full lumpectomy and breast reconstuction on Friday. She looks AMAZING! She's really happy with the outcome of the construction. She says she feels like a new woman now and that she is glad something positive came out of the breast cancer surgery.
I have some photos from this weekend. We had our annual clambake. It was rough. I'm very glad it's over. I spent most of the time laying down with another friend who has lyme disease so we were able to catch up and be together. She has moved far away so I don't see her enough.

Your son is like my younger son. Couldn't get him to smile (even a little one) when he had his senior pictures made. I know it's supposed to be what everyone does, but I wanted to at least see his teeth that I spent a forture on braces! (LOL).
When my older son got married, my younger son was one of the groomsmen. I threatened him within an inch of his life that he better smile. We just got the pictures back and he smiled in the majority of them. He says he hates to smile because they look fake. It's funny that the pictures I have with him with his girlfriend, he has a big smile!!!
Senior year is an expensive year, but it goes by so fast!

Did you see any of the meteor shower the other night? Kevin and I rode out to the middle of nowhere and watched for a little over an hour--fascinating! :)
T83--funny that you now have old girlfriends in the HS picture. Not funny as in "ha ha", funny as in it doesnt surprise me. I remember having other kids in school pictures was the "in" thing a few years ago. I have a picture of my son with 5-6 of his friends looking very silly. Now, re: the senior portrait, he would have been taking his ilfe in his hands to even suggest that.:lmao: Thinking of it, theres only one picture that I know of with him and his girlfriend. Those Quilts are wonderful. I love the flower one and the 4th one down on the right. The colors are so vibrant. I am about to do another quilt for another Wedding coming up in April for a close friend. I'm in this wedding too.....Grrrrrrr I am looking forward to making this quilt for her because I love her so much. Thanks for the compliments for Allen. He's worked really hard to get here. D...No, we did not see the meteorites. It was too hot(around 105*F during the day) to go to the cabin where the view would have been fantastic. We live in the middle of a very populated area, so it would have not done us any good to go out into the yard (where it was 95*F at 10:00pm) and look up and it was too hot to get out of the city lights and away from the A/C.
Kara...I am so happy for you that your car is back where it belongs.

Sharon--thats too bad about now being able to view the meteor shower. Fortunately around here that day, once the sun started to set the temps cooled down a bit-it was actually a bit chilly.
I too am in a very populated area, however a 20-25 minute drive towards the NC line is still a bit "country" with lots of dark back roads. It was amazing to us as just how dark it was, and how clear the skies were that night (summers produce lots of haze around here).
I've been watching the weather forecasts for your area (broadcasts on our local news) and y'all are back in a nasty heatwave. I hope things start cooling down here soon!
Jane--I havent taken many pictures lately either; it was mainly due to the heat, now its just laziness on my part. The husband has been on vacation this week and we havent taken the cameras out of the bags except for a quick picture here and there (which I need to upload).
I cant say that I blame you for not venturing out into the weather--like you mentioned it can get very dangerous very quickly!
Hope everyone is doing well!

Janie...Yes, I have heard. I think we are supposed to get a cool down over the weekend. The temps might be in the upper 90's then. After 107*F, that does sound cool. :loco: How are your plants doing? We are trying to keep ours alive by hand watering them about every other day in the early morning or evening. Have you heard that, because of the 3-year drought, we are about 40 inches behind for rain total? The weather guys are saying that we don't have much help coming in the form of rain for a while unless we get some residual rain from the tropical storms coming into the Gulf. Don't really want other people to suffer for us to get rain.
Did you hear about the lady from New Jersey who was here for Elvis Week and was found dead yesterday in a tent? Seems she and her family were staying in an RV behind Heartbreak Hotel which is across the street from Graceland. She was too large to get into the small RV, so she was in a tent beside it with fans blowing on her. This was not a good idea with the temps being up to 106*F. When they found her, the temp inside the tent was 111*F.
For those of you who do not know what Elvis Week is...It happens every year during the week when Elvis died. This year is the 30th anniversary and it is being reported that around 75,000 people are here from out of town. They come from everywhere to tour Graceland, go to Elvis Impersonator Shows and Contests, tour all the places Elvis lived, etc. Then, on the day he died, they file past his grave site on the grounds of Graceland holding lit candles. This begins at dark and lasts through the night and into the next morning. Lots of these people come here every year. This year, it so happens that this week fell when we are having some the hottest temps ever recorded.
D...Is this the first time you have seen this Meteorite Shower? It is really awesome, isn't it? It happens every year. I am glad you were able to get out of town to see it.

Sharon ...I was in the 7th grade back when Elvis died, but remember how hot it was then!! There were people that died due to the heat then too. Some of my friends parents went to Graceland for the filing by his casket. Of course, I wasn't at the age that was an Elvis fan, but I remember watching everything on TV.
The candlelight ceremony always starts on the 15th (my birthday) and my hubby always teases me that we are going to go. I will be downtown for a wedding this weekend, so I am kind of looking forward to seeing some of the Elvis stuff going on. I know it will be the end of Elvis week, but I am sure that there will be some interesting people (more than normal) on Beale Street! Our office has moved a while back, but I used to be able to see the people to file into the Graceland area every August. It is unbelieveable! You would think it would slow down, but there are young fans there every year!
We got in our pool yesterday...the water was 94 degrees! It was like bath water. We (well I should say I am) trying my best to keep my plants alive. I have so many perinneals, so I don't want them to die. It's been an everyday duty! I am dreading my water bill this month! Between the plants and keeping our pool going since this heat is messing with the chlorine! I am ready for October!!!!!

Sharon--while I've been aware of past meteor showers, I've never taken the time to witness one. I'm glad I got to see this one though, and I'll surely make it a habit to see others. :)
Have you been taking part if any of the Elvis hooplah? I bet there are tons of photo-ops to be had!..:)
:hi: everyone!
Here recently, for some strange reason I've been experiencing alot of people who have taken notice and/or interest in my tattoo's. Who knows why the sudden interest as one of my tats is 19 years old and is seldom noticed..:hmm:. Figured I'd take a quick pic of them and combine them into one picture and post for all the world to see..hahaha..and before anyone mentions it, yes, I'm aware of the rose being in need of a color touch-up! :D

Ok Diana,
Now you have to explain what the tattoos mean..lol Because we all know each tattoo has a meaning..:)

No D, I have not been down to the madness this year. Not ever, as a matter of fact. Not an :elvis: fan. But even if I had wanted to be there this week, I would not have gone. It is too hot to do much of anything outside. Even the news is asking people to stay indoors with the A/C running.
I am so glad you enjoyed the Perseids meteor shower. It will happen again next year. Put August 12 and 13 on your calender.

Ronda---the meaning behind the tats...the peach--got that one last year while on vacation in GA; the crab is my zodiac sign; my sons zodiac sign is virgo; and the rose, well, that was one of those 'lets go get a tattoo cause I'm 19' spur of the moment decisions. That one is in need of a touch-up; I was going to get it retouched last week when I was getting the virgo, however that one hurt so darned much I just wanted out of there!..:bonk:
Sharon--I would have thought the heat would be keeping people away from all the Elvis goings-on. I think I heard on the news that there has been approximately 75000 fans participating in all the madness--wonder if there would have been more had the weather been more cooperative. :hmm:.. Like you, I'm not much of a fan either. Some of his music is OK, however I've never had any desire to visit Graceland, much less go nuts on any of his anniversaries!
Though he looks like the other toad I posted a few weeks ago, I figured he deserves his 5 minutes of fame too; this little guy has decided to live in my flower bed, and came out long enough the other night to get his picture taken. Unlike the other toad, this one isnt too fond of flash photography so I only got a couple of pictures of him..hahaha....I named him TippyTippy-DayDay.....

I'm sorry,
I don't have a photo for today. Not feeling well from my surgery. I will have to admire everything you all put up for awhile. I may have one for tomorrow but not even sure of that right now.
This surgery is making me feel worse than better. I hope over time I get back to the point of where I was on my good days.
Love and Hugs to you all!
P.S. Diana I LOVE THAT LITTLE GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also love the peach. The color is awesome. Allen has been urging me to get a tattoo. I am too undecided on what I want and I'm afraid what I pick, I may get sick of.

Love that toad!! Today it has cooled off a lot in upstate NY, wearing a sweatshirt this PM. Kara hoping a much better day is coming. Been sleeping in my little camper in the woods and wishing I had woke up about 2a to 4a to see the shooting stars but I didn't. Next time I will pitch my tent in the open with the screen top and set the alarm, maybe. Photo is of two of my three sons, grand daughter, and daughter in law in front of somebody else truck I admired. The other side is a train in a snow scene.

Hi everyone,
Kara, so sorry that you are still feeling so bad from your surgery. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Diana, Yikes that bruis looked waaaaaaaaaay bad. I hope it doesn't hurt as bad as it looks. Loved the little froggy and the tats. My neice has some amazing tatoos that she wants me to photograph next time I'm in KY but I will have to get a extra wide angle lens for all the tats she's got!:lmao:
Sharon and Tracey83, Yes I heard about that poor lady in the tent. That just made me so sad. Thankfully it has cooled off some since that storm we got yesterday. Memphis can be soooooooo miserable in the summer time. Seems like half the members of my Sunday school class are moving to Nashville and other parts of Eastern TN. I think the heat and the crime is driving a lot of people out of the area.
Sue Bee - cool old car photos!
Yesterday, my daughter's play group at a meeting at a pottery place called Seize the Clay (clever name I thought). They got to paint some pottery pieces and then they will fire them and the kids can pick them up in a week. Anyway, while the kids were painting i took some photos of the stuff in the shop and here are some shots:

Here's some for the last few days:
This past weekend I was in several different places. This is a family member's Lake House. I have more to show you from this home. They live in the Middle East in the winter. Lots to show. It was like a museum. I will show some of that tomorrow.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/Karalynnree/th_IMG_4177.jpg (http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/Karalynnree/IMG_4177.jpg)
On Saturday we had to stay in a hotel in wine country (5 of us to one room) We got a little crazy to say the least. Only two double beds. None of us slept well that night.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/Karalynnree/th_BeingSilly2.jpg (http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/Karalynnree/BeingSilly2.jpg)
This was a small foot locker in our tiny motel room.....God I wish we stayed at the Lake House but it was being occupied that night so we had to crash at this little deal.

Kara...Now that's what I call a Lake House. I hope you took lots of pictures of the inside.
Your story about sharing one room with 4 other people reminds me of the time right after Hubby and I were married. We went to Lake Tahoe with another couple (who had introduced Hubby and me) and a single man (who was my best friend at the time) and all of us were in one room for the night. James (my friend) and I had done this before, many times on different trips (in separate beds...I knew what all of you were thinking :tsk: ) before I met Hubby, but I had never done this with so many people. It was very interesting and rather strange. Poor James, he had to sleep on the floor. :shake:
Oh...that reminds me of one of my trips with James. We went to Disneyland and took another male friend with us. I decided that I wanted to celebrate my 29th B-Day at Disney. Since the guys did not want to sleep in the same bed and James and I had decided that we would be just friends from the beginning of our friendship and were very comfortable with each other (we actually shared a house at the time...James, my son and me), he and I shared a bed and the other guy got his own. My one and only time of sleeping with James and all we did was sleep. :lmao:
Kara...Did they make you sleep in the box?

On a more serious note, we had horrendous storms pass overhead early last evening. Unfortunately Mother Nature can be disastrous as seen here in this picture of my neighbors house (3 blocks down from me). Janie....Which Tracey are you referring to? I promise, I will try to post some pictures today, but I don't have any neat ones like y'all! Well...I do have one of a cake that I had made for a baby shower at my work. I asked the man behind the counter (bad mistake) if he would just write "It's a Girl" on it. When I got it (after a few minutes). It looked as if a pre-schooler had written on it. Of course I got this cake at the last minute, so I didn't have time to go in the next day to have it done over, so I woke up in the middle of the night (not unusual) and decided to make my own alterations. I ended up getting little "silk" flowers out of one of my arrangements..Yes I washed them first and scraped off the pre-school writing and did my own creation. I also went out and got some of my flowers out of my backyard and put them on the cake. I was really proud of myself. The people at work loved it. The baby shower was for a guy in my office that's baby was born last May (before I started working here) and they haven't had a shower for her yet. The bad thing is that noone knew her name! When Jerry came in (for our staff meeting) Surprise...he didn't know what was going on. He thought it was for his birthday which is next month. I just wanted to give the background story of this picture that I am dying to post. My hubby was so embarrassed when I just broke out laughing with this older gentleman gave me this cake. He said I could have waited at least until I was out of his range. When y'all see this cake, y'all will understand!
Janie...I made your dog my wallpaper at work. Great work on all the pictures!

Janie--if your Dr, for some odd reason doesnt give you a letter excusing you, call the courts and explain to them your situation. If that doesnt work, show up and tell the atty's your situation should they be interested in you sitting through a trial. The last thing they want on their side is a juror who cant fully concentrate on whats going on.

Janie...I hope your doctor gives you a letter. Let us know how this works out. I am very curious.
D...Isn't that they way it always goes. It's the uncared for ones that always flourish. I finally gave up on everything. It is so hot and dry here and everything is dying. I used to have a very healthy Mint Plant growing in my backyard. I watered it and watered it and spoke to it very lovingly. Now I have a very leggy plant that has gone to seed with no hope of having any mint for my tea. Alas...I cared so much and where has it gotten me. :shake:
Warmth is one thing, but day after day of 100*F or more is enough. And still there are more coming. God....Please turn on the A/C!!!!!!!!! Oh, and don't forget to turn off the water in the Midwest.
D...Love the cat picture...The Stalker is at it again. :lmao:
:birthday: :birthday: Happy 17th, Kenneth. :birthday: :birthday:
Wish I could have a piece of that B-day cake.
The cake looks great. Besides...Whose going to notice the decorating when there is CAKE underneath. :woohoo:
T83...Looking forward to seeing that cake. I can't believe you have flowers that are not all dead from the heat.
Okay...Now I'm going to have to make a cake with all this talk about CAKE. I love CAKE. It makes every day a party.

diana the flower photos are beautiful! Everything is just about dried up around here so it is nice to see such beautiful healthy looking flowers.
The cake looks good too. I like the colors you chose and I bet it tastes great! Hope the "offspring" has a great day and you too.
I just talked to the nurse at my doctor's office and she said she just had jury duty and the judge was not letting anyone off for medical conditions. She said one woman said she had IBS with explosive diahrea and he still said all she has to do is raise her hand and she can go the bathroom if she wants.
I dread this. I am a timid driver and never drive downtown or on the express way so this is going to be very stressful for me.

I just got a letter about JURY DUTY!!!!!!!! I have never had to do it before. I'm afraid my IC is going to flare up big time since I have a lot of pain when i have to sit for any length of time. I called my doctor today and am hoping she'll give me some kind of medical letter that will get me out of it. Has anyone here ever had to do Jury Duty?
I hate to tell you Janie about jury duty around here, but they won't take medical letters unless you pretty much require contant medical attention. My aunt was called a few months ago. She is almost blind, not in the greatest of health and in her 70s. She still had to go up there anyway. My mother-in-law had to go with her. She was actually called into a jury, but was dismissed then. Once you have been called in for a jury, if you are dismissed, you are dismissed for the entire week. It is different than when I served. It was a 2 week jury duty and everyone had to stay for every day of the 2 weeks whether you were called or not. I handled vehicle claims, so I was called for a few juries, but would be sent back to the "pool" to wait some more. At least now, you only have to serve 1 week and it's only until you have been called. Take a good book and possibly even a cushion! I pray that you get called the first day, it's an easy case and you can go home!
You can certainly try, but everyone I know even my friend that babysits from her house and has 2 special needs kids had to serve. THEY SHOW NO MERCY!

On no, Janie. I am the same way. I do not drive on the freeways or downtown. I have only one good eye and no depth perception and am so scared of the drivers around here. I am having an anxiety attack and I'm not the one who has to go. If I ever have to serve, Hubby would have to drive the car. That will make for one very unhappy Hubby.

Tracey83,
Thanks so much for telling me what you know about all this. You pretty much confirmed what that nurse told me so I'm not going to try to get out of it anymore. I have to say, I wouldn't want to be the defendent if I get on the jury . . . I'm gonna be in a real ugly mood!:evilsmile
Sharon, thanks for commiserating with me. Sorry to get you anxious on my behalf. I am the kind of person if I haven't done something before I get really anxious about it so having to drive down there and then serving on the jury has gotten me spun up. I'm going to try to not get so worked up about it. Most things end up being not anywhere near as bad as I expect. I will just use my hubby's GPS device to make sure I get down there and back without ever getting on the express way.
Sharon and Tracey can understand the anxiety I'm sure because they are also really aware of our terrible crime rate around here. It's like the wild, wild west in Memphis. Thank heavens i drive a mini van - no self respecting car jacker would want that, right?

Janie, I don't like the interstate anymore either, but I definitely wouldn't recommend that you go downtown any other way. It is pretty easy to get to where you serve jury duty. It is right off the interstate downtown. You get off at 2nd and park in one of those parking lot by one of those old churches. Of course it's pay to park, but you won't have far to walk. There is also a parking garage, that I think you get a parking voucher for, but that benefit may have changed.
I just know that you don't want to go down Poplar especially that time of day or night. I used to work downtown (for 3 years) I would try different ways especially during the contruction times (which were constant). If my hubby knew some of the areas I drove in, he would have had a fit! Really it is pretty easy to go downtown these days since the construction is gone in that area and the signs are easier to follow. I would get on the interstate at Jackson. Go down Stage to Austin Peay to bypass the construction and rushhour traffic closer to us! I will definitely say my prayers for you. When do you go pick your week?

Jane--I have faith in you! Being in a strange place is a bit nerve wrecking, however there will (should) be plenty of people around you heading towards the same place/general vicinity as you.

Tracey, I just don't know if I can drive the interstate at all. I haven't driven anywhere that I had to go faster than 40mph for a long time. I would probaby be fine once I merged into traffic but I'm a slow timid driver and merging onto the interstate . . . I'm an accident waiting to happen. Like Sharon, my eyesight is not good so my confidence about driving is shot. I have some kind of funky astigmatism in both eyes that makes it hard for me to focus.
Tracey, how long does a person have to stay up there when you do jury duty? I notice you mentioned day or night.
When they get ready to select you as a juror do they ask you any questions like:
Can you be an impartial juror?
Cause I have to tell you, there is no way I can be an impartial juror. I have a lot of resentment to the low lifes that are ruining this city so I wasn't totally joking when I said defendents better watch out because of my mood.

I'm with you, Janie. It's a sad affair when you believe that most everyone who is charged with anything in the City is not innocent until proven guilty. I do not like going downtown, even with Hubby. There is so much that goes on down there. Is there anyone available who could go with you? Maybe a male who lifts weights? Sorta kidding here, but not totally.

All that's needed is a letter from a physician stating that you have interstitial cystitis and would need to be excused for restroom trips a minimum of once every half hour.
In Oregon if you're age 70 or older all you have to do is to fill in the form that you wish to be excused.

D...Now that you mentioned it, he is standing on a skate board...DUH!!! All I noticed about their feet was that they were pretty much wearing the same kind of shoes.
...17. What a mixed up, confusing, irrational, wonderful age. They want to have girlfriends because their hormones demand it unless there are guy friends close by to around to hang out with. Of course, the girls do not understand this. They are able to have it both ways without causing mental and emotional meltdowns. Having a 17 year old boy :loco: It's hard living with them, but what other choice do you have? I remember well. Even if it has been 20 years.
Janie...Hubby has sold a lot of stuff on Ebay. He even sold a pool slide and diving board a couple of years ago. The man who bought them drove all the way from Indiana to dismantle them from the pool and take them away. Just last week, he sold the pool pump. Ebay is known as the woulds largest garage sale for a reason.

Can you be an impartial juror?
Cause I have to tell you, there is no way I can be an impartial juror. I have a lot of resentment to the low lifes that are ruining this city so I wasn't totally joking when I said defendents better watch out because of my mood.
You more than likely won't be judging low lifes. These cases are mainly lawsuits, (like vehicle accident, etc).maybe a few criminal, but they are few and far between! If they do ask you if you can be impartial and you say no...They will ask you why. Remember you have 2 attorneys that are asking questions and they can only release a certain number of the jurors, so they will make sure that you have a good reason.
What date are you supposed to go pick your week? That should be on your letter. You won't be able to ask any questions at that time. They will only ask for exceptions which are for people that fit a specific critieria, like age, etc. That info is on your letter as well. Like I said there are very few exceptions! After that, they will call out the weeks and you will go down for the week that you want to serve. They are doing everything they can to get everyone's week picked and the people out of there. 2 years ago, we had to go to the Mid-south Coliseum. I have no idea where you go now. They will warn you that you can't change that week. I have tried that one time when my manager wasn't happy that I chose a week one time! I was told absolutely no.
Janie, your hours will be about 9:00 to 5:00. It is sometimes later depending on the trial time, but I have known quite a few people that have served. They love FedEx people! and no one has ever stayed past 5:00. You will park either by 2nd Street or in the parking garage, which is closest to the jury pool room that you will meet at on Monday morning. There will be about 400 to 500 people there so get there a little early so that you can get a seat. I always tried to sit up close so that I could hear everything. You will then wait for a sheriff's deputy to come in and he will call everyone's name and tell everyone the rules about being there and on time. Even my friend that is married to a sheriff's deputy and was pregnant had to serve. She actually served on a trial. It was a civil trial, but we were both surprised that they kept her. She served 2 days and was done!
After they call everyone's name in the morning, it will probably be a lull again. You can go get a snack, go potty or whatever. Alot of people walked around. I mainly read or worked on my cross stitching (that was when I served the entire 2 weeks and my name was not even called!). They will always give you time to get back to the jury pool room. When the deputy comes back in (sometimes they call names for jury right away. If your name is called, you will go up to the deputy and after he finishes that list for a trial, you will all follow the duputy to the court house. You can have a paper saying that you need frequent breaks, but when I was serving (on a vehicle accident case - civil side), we were let out several times to go to the bathroom. The case only lasted a couple of hours, the deliberations were after lunch (for about an hour...it was an easy decision), then we were told to go home and we had to come back the next morning to tell the judge our verdict. That only lasted at the most an hour. After that I was free to go home and was off the jury list for another 10 years. So you can see, I was called on the first jury of the week. I was put in the jurors chairs and asked several questions. Things like have you ever served before? Where do you work? Which is funny since I told them that I worked liabilility claims handling vehicle accidents and that trial ending up involving a vehicle accident lawsuit! I guess the plaintiffs attorney really wanted me! They asked everyone questions. Like if you have ever sued anyone before, etc. They dismiss people after the first set of questions then bring some of the extras that were called with you to fill in the seats. After both lawyers feel that they have their jury, the trial begins. It really is very interesting. Most of the cases will be civil cases, so you won't be sending anyone to jail or anything. (unless you got a card for Federal Grand Jury) which is when you call in everyday for a month. It doesn't sound like you got that card. My hubby just did that in February and never had to even go downtown since they didn't need him.
I actually knew a few people while we were waiting in the jury pool room. I really hated that I had to leave right away, since I wanted to have time to talk. A girl that I work near right now, just finished and she wasn't called at all. She finished 3 books. She left at lunch on Thursday and was told she wouldn't need to come in on Friday since they didn't start new trials after Thursday afternoon.
I was scared to, but it ended up being fun and I learned something.
Just go slow on the interstate. I promise, there isn't a safer or easier way to go downtown! Poplar is safe, but I wouldn't go on it during morning and afternoon rush hour! You will be fine. You will be in the part of downtown that is quite busy, clean and most of the people will be down there for the exact same reason. So you will all look lost together!

:bunny: About jury duty, about 2 months ago I filled out a form to be considered for jury duty, and haven't heard anything yet. It would be at least 30 miles for me to drive so I hope I don't get called. When I was Town Clerk for many years they wouldn't call you because of the political position. Now that doesn't apply, no exceptions. Photos are from trip to Lake Powell, Utah, houseboating and kayak trip, a very favorite.

Janie, I had an experience with e bay this past January when I ordered two snow globes for my grand daughter for her collection. They were both beautiful and of fair size. The first one was the Polar express with a train, hoot and lighted tree in it. It arrived just perfect for a bargain price I believed of $25. The second one was snow white and the seven dwarfs that played "whistle a little toon". When I took it out of the box, a couple of dwarfs on the outside of the globe fell of, but I figured that can be repaired. But the dwarf under the globe with snow white was laying on it's side. I wasn't sure what to do next, but the man's name and address was on the outside of the box so I called. He said the photo posted in the e bay notice showed no breaks, and he would sent me back my money. He had UPS package it, and it was in a box way to small for padding to fit around it. He went to UPS who acknowledge it was not package correctly, and he got his money back. UPS was going to pick it up at my house but decided it was not worth their time. My son glued the outside dwarfs back on, but the one under the globe is laying down. My grand daughter loves it anyway.
That was my only experience with e bay, but the temptation is still there to try again. My son says to be prepared to loss your money, that I was lucky. suebee :bonk:

I know I keep posting about pictures I have taken and that I am going to post them. I promise, I will soon! I went outside this morning before work and took some pictures of my flowers. Sharon, you made a comment about my flowers still living in this heat. I have been watering them in secret. My neighbors say its like watching a lady sneaking shoes in the house! LOL! When my husband gets the water bill, he is going to freak! I haven't been able to save all of them, especially the ones in pots, but most of my plants are perennials and I just can't stand the thought of them dying. Between the pool and the flowers, it's been horrible. I haven't even watered the grass this year. Luckily bermuda is drought tolerant. It's not very pretty, but it's not dying!
I am definitely going home tonight and try to post a few of them. I may also send some to Kara to see what she can do with some of my Mollie (my dog) pictures. One thing I have done is go on Walmart.com and made a book with both pictures from my son's wedding and a book with pictures of my dog and granddog! I haven't received them yet, but I can't wait! It's been fun. I did purchase a book from the wedding photographer thinking that would be a neat thing to have. It was $150.00 and I didn't think that was too bad compared to what the bride's mom had to pay for the photographer. When I got my book, it was 5" by 5" and had about 15 pages (each page had several pictures, but you have to wear your "cheaters" to see everyone's face. While it is beautifully done, it certainly isn't worth $150.00. I only paid about $12.00 for my Walmart book and it has more than 15 pages and I could put up to 5 pictures with captions on each page. It will be interesting to see it. They also do hard bound books. If this turns out like I hope it does, I will probably do a couple books for my mom and MIL (ARG!) for their Christmas presents.
Janie, I would love to take a photography class. I think that is what I am going to tell my husband I want for Christmas. If you have any ideas, let me know! I think Wolf Camera has one.

Thanks Sharon for asking hubby for the ebay tips. I do have a paypal account and that is definitely my preferred way to get paid there.

G'day all! I would like to tell you all a very intriguing story as to why I haven't been around for a so long...... .........but I can't think of one and mum told me never to tell lies hahaha.
The fact of the matter is that I have no interesting story to tell...well..other than I had been spending sooooooo much time on the computer that I had been happily neglecting everything else and my nether regions have spread to the extent that I feared I would never be able to extricate myself from the computer chair! However, after reading all the posts, I realized how much I have missed you all.
It has taken me most of the morning (very entertaining)catching up. Let me see, I have missed: tattoos, heatwaves, meteor showers, the 'Wrath of Sharon(aka Shazza),so many glorious floral contributions, jury duty, the 'disappearing Tracey' ,car accidents and hospital stays....I hope you are doing better Kara.
I have enjoyed meeting new posters to this thread as well as pictures of family and wonderful summer holiday photos.
And EBAY.........I LOVE ebay!
I hadn't been taking many photos but have pulled out the old canon again. It was on the fritz recently and I have renewed my quest to buy a new digital SLR. I am just trying to juggle finances at the moment you know...'robbing Peter to pay Paul' sort of stuff. Hahahahaah. Actually, on friday, I raced over to Kmart to put a Pentax K100D away on layby thinking, "I'll bloody well find some way to pay for it later ". Hahahahah:lmao: ..... But the great money god in the sky must have been watching as they had sold out!
Not to be put off, I have made a few more enquiries and the new K100D Super seems to be the go.....OMG!................ the NEW money god must have taken power as my son just came in and paid me the $400 he had owed me for months  Ok, now if I could just get the $200 the daughter owes ...sweet! Look out Ted's Camera store ..here I come!
Anyhoo, I have rambled on long enough. My photographic contribution for today is from a trip my daughter Hilary and I made on monday to the little country town of Woodend about 40 minutes drive north west of Melbourne. Hilary is learning to drive and we need to get her hours up as much as possible before her driving test in October.
One thing that Woodend is known for is its award winning, Bourke's Bakery which has won many accolades. Not the least of these is for the 'Best Vanilla Slice' in Australia.......aka, to all and sundry in Oz as "Snot blocks'' disgusting hey! But the most wonderful way to gain a few pounds I have ever encountered. Next time we go I will buy extra to share with you all!
You have to come here and have morning/afternoon tea with me at the bakery.

Hilz is learning to drive mostly on my old manual ford Telstar. It will be hers to drive when/if she gets her license.

Ro...You are back!!!!! I hope you don't disappear, again. I have missed your pictures of Oz. Now, what in the world are "Snot Blocks"? Disgusting...yes. But they must be very good if they win prizes. Do you have a recipe for them so we can at least fantasize about what they taste like?
So Hil is driving? Here in the States, we learn to drive at 15 and get our license at 16. That is unless you are like me and wait for awhile. I did not get my license until I was 18. At what age do you guys get yours?
Hubby and I just watched some of the 1st "Fellowship of the Ring" again the other night and I thought of you. I know it was filmed in New Zealand, but I still thought about you and was wondering if you had fallen off the planet. After all, you guys do hang upside down there. :lmao:
Anyway...Back to why I mentioned the movie. You asked us to have morning/afternoon tea with you in your post. That made me wonder if you eat as many meals as the Hobbits do?...1st Breakfast, 2nd Breakfast, Elevenies, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Supper, etc. :lmao:
It is good to "see" you, again. Don't stay away so long now that you have found your way back. (((Hugs)))

Oh my gosh, Sue Bee those are the cutest little things! I bet their little "spikes" are still soft until they get older, don't you?
The photo above wasn't really taken in my attic, it's in the dining room and is my husband's old oak Buffet that he got from his mom and some things I have around the house. I'm going to use this on my Ebay site to give people an idea about me and what I'm going to sell.

Janie...That is beautiful. Are you going to have an E bay Store?
Sue...I am so sorry that I did not comment on the picture of the little ones before now. Isn't it amazing that something that grows up to look like they will start out being so cute. It is an amazing picture. I love it.

:smile tee The only thing I had the energy to do yesterday was a picture for you all! I am so sorry I have not been in here. I LOVE those little critters Sue!!!!! How adorable Janie I wish I could take photo lessons from you. Your photos are always precious. Diana, I miss you! Tracey....we are playing photo tag here. Not on at the same time. Sharon, I hope you are well. Rosalie, I would love to spend an afternoon tea with you. It would be nice it we were all together and could see eachother.
These Flowers pretty much represent how I am feeling.

Hey all, thanks for the welcome back...I feel like a bit of a dill for missing so much.
Janie, as always your photos are gorgeous. You should sell photography lessons on ebay! As for Hilz's white hair, hmmmmmmmmmm I'm still getting used to it. And guess who is the one who has to redo her roots for her every 4/5 weeks?
Kara, that is a stunning pic. What kind of flower is that? Is it a geramium? Hopefully you will be well enough soon to get out for longer with your camera.
Suebee, they are the cutest little critters. Are the porcupines? If I were the porcupine mummy, I would be opting for my babies to come in egg form.:lmao: And, I have to ask what flowers are in your pic?
Shazz, you make me laugh with the meals question. Brekky, lunch and dinner...one of each per day :lmao: How many do you have over there?:lmao: The morning and afternoon tea is optional...............except for when there are Vanilla Slices in the offering...then it is mandatory! Speaking of which here is a pic of one from the bakery we went to.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/th_BourkesVanillaSlice.jpg (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/BourkesVanillaSlice.jpg)
And you can find a recipe here. They aren't particularly hard to make but if you get them wrong they are an awful mess. There a some slight variations from recipe to recipe but this is the general idea. Some have quite yellow custard...hence the revolting nickname..hahahaha

Now as for the hanging upsidedown question..check this out.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/th_theworld.jpg (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f130/gyspyrose/theworld.jpg)
Who's hanging upsidedown now hey?
I'm still considering buying the Pentax K100D Super. The photograpic college that Hilary attends has the previous model for student use and the first 'love of my life' was a Pentax Spotmatic. Has anybody ever had any dealings or know someone who has, with this DSLR make and model?

Rosalie,
The desert looks yummy! You are making me starved!
Kara- sure hope you feel better soon and your flower is beautiful. You don't need photo lessons from me, girl! You take fabulous photos already!
Sue I like your latest batch of flowers they are lovely!!
Sharon,
I'm going to start selling stuff on Ebay but not technically open a "store" yet until I get the hang of it. I'm going to basically have a huge online yard sale! LOL
You can check out my ebay listings by searching for my username on Ebay I think. My username is: janiesattic123
I'm going to start selling off 20 years of horse stuff as soon as I can get in the attic and start listing it. Right now I've just got some books and stuff like that.

Ro...Thanks for the link to the recipe. I printed it and am going to add it to my recipes. It sounds much better than what you called it..."Snot Blocks"...:tsk:
Very funny with the map. :lmao:
We eat as many times a day as food is served. :lmao: Afternoon Tea has not caught on in the States, but I did go to a High Tea at the famous Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis a few weeks ago. It was wonderful. :hmm: On second thought, after that experience, I think High Tea should be an everyday thing. Bring on the little veggie sandwiches and pastries. :lmao:
Janie...I will take a look at your listings.
Kara...At least someone is getting some rain. Thank you for reminding me of what it looks like. It really is a lovely picture. I love pictures with water drops on flowers.
Sue...Oh my goodness...You still have flowers!!!!!!
D...I hope you are enjoying your trip. Can't wait to see your photos. We miss you!!!!!

:smile tee Yes those little darlings are baby porcupines. The flowers are wild asters I believe, found by this stream again on the California trip. I've got about 300 photos you all might get to see. Ha Ha :elvis:

Well, hey, hey, hey!!! :hi:
I've missed y'all while I was away! :)
We took a very relaxing vacation to WV to visit New River Gorge. Little did we realize that this area is an outdoors-type persons paradise! Somewhere between whitewater rafting, hiking, ATV'ing, horseback riding and a bit of relaxing I managed to take, oh, some 300 pictures.:woohoo: This is one of the the most beautiful places I've ever been to--cant wait to get pictures uploaded so I can share with y'all.
Off to grab some dinner as we didnt stop to eat on the drive home..now I'm starving!..
Loved everyones pictures!!!
Hope everyone is well!!
Til next time.....

New River Gorge bridge: I have to say, this bridge is quite fascinating--the pictures can't possibly allow you to really appreciate the magnitude of the structure. It was completed in 1977, its 876 feet high, 3030 feet in length, the arch length is 1700 feet, the rise is 360 feet. It was completed in 1977 at the cost of $37 million. One day per year its closed to vehicle traffic to celebrate "Bridge Day"-people come from all over the world to base jump off of it on that day....

:hi: D...Welcome home. I was thinking you were somewhere else and would never had guessed you went there. :lmao: It looks like a beautiful place. Love the potty sigh. :lmao:
Sue...You are making me so homesick for the mountains of CA. I grew up in the Central Valley and spent lots of time in those mountains camping. Beautiful pictures of the mountain stream.
K...I hope you are feeling better. :kissing:
Ro...Did you fall off the globe again? :lmao:
Janie...Any bids, yet? I did go in and take a look.
