Hi to all, I'm newly diagnosed. I'm 23 years old and have had symptoms for about six months. I live in the UK. Just wanted to say thanks for the "sticky" posts, it's given me some idea where to start (all the info the doctor gave me was quite overwhelming to take in at first!). He's started me on gabapentin, atarax, nitrofurotoin and alfuzosin - I'm going to have to make a chart to remember it all!

Look forward to getting to know people and sharing advice.

Firefly xx

Oh, thought I might just add that I am getting married in 3 weeks time so any emergency advice would be welcome. I'm currently having to empty my bladder approx once an hour - not practical when wearing a wedding dress! Pain seems to be getting better today, though, hopefully the result of so many tablets!

Hey firefly.... Congratulations on your wedding. I'll be praying for you. I hope that you start to feel better soon. I havent really heard of those medications before... what are they for?
Make sure you post pictures of your wedding afterwards! Just try to relax... I bet all the planning is stessful. Maybe take a hot bath with candles and music to relax. Oooo I could use one about now. lol

Thanks for your support and prayers, very much appreciated :)

Rach - the medications: gabapentin is a strong pain killer that works on the central nervous system, atarax is an antihistamine for inflammation, nitrofurotoin is an antibiotic (3 months of that!) and alfuzosin is an alpha-blocker which relaxes urethral muscle (it's usually only used in men with prostate problems, but I severe urethral spasm and I self catheterise so it seems to help a bit).

I will certainly post some wedding pics - I'm so excited, I just don't want to spoil the show with the IC. With any luck the wedding day (and night *blush*) will be lovely and pain-free.

Now I'm off for that relaxing bath ...
