Hi, I'm Melissa. I just got diagnosed with IC in June, although I was having problems since November. Went through all kinds of meds, thinking it was over active bladder...

I'm 24, and wondering if that is young to have IC?
Anyway, just thought I would say hello, and how great it is to find this message board... I had never heard of IC and definately felt as if I was sticking out from my friends for having so many "bathroom issues". It's a little reassuring that I'm not the only person in the world that has this :)

Hi. Welcome. I just joined myself (last week). I was also the friend with the "bathroom issues" and I too just thought I had an overactive bladder. I'm curious, what was the main factor for your doctor to diagnose you from overactive bladder to IC? Anyhow, I was diagnosed two weeks ago too and have had a pretty rough time (emotionally), however, this past week (and weekend), I have read a lot and talked to some people that give me the strength to think that we can have IC and still lead a completely normal life.

It's supposedly uncommon for our age group but it seems there are a lot of women here in their 20's. It started for me when I was 19 and I'm actually 30 now. It stinks at any age but at least right now I'm thankful to have the physical ability to get to the potty when necessary. I work w/ people with disabilities and I just think, "Oh my gosh if I had an injury and THEN I had to deal w/ IC on top on that...." So I guess I'm thankful to be healthy otherwise.....I'm sorry you have IC but welcome to the ICN, you found a great place.

I got the official diagnosis when they did a bladder biopsy and hydro-distention (pardon my spelling, it's probably inaccurate). Right now I'm on Elmiron, 100 ml 3x a day; but we're talking about the DMSO "bladder wash."
Anyone ever have that done?

Welcome. As one of the other posters mentioned, they say it's uncommon to get IC so young. BUT, there seem to be quite a few young folks around here so you are definitely not alone.
