View Full Version : Dumb Question?

Like many people with IC my belly, where my bladder is, pops out as if I were 5 months along. I need to go to an important reunion. Of course I want to look good. I will wear nice pants and the longest top I own. Still that darn belly shows unless I suck in all the time. Can't do it. Question: do you think it would hurt my bladder bad if I wore a girdle?? Has anyone tried this? I want to look great but not at the expense of my bladder and all the pain that goes with it. Hugs to all, Ziggy

Ziggy,
there is nothing worse then the IC bloat. You can wear a girddle if you wish, but you pay for it in a flair later on, or worse yet, start to hurt while you are out, to the point you need to take it off. Sorry to say that, but it really is the truth. I can put on a pair of Jeans, and an hour later I wa ripping them off to put my stretchy clothes back on. I am sure you will look great with out the girddle. btw, no question is ever dumb :)

I know everyone is different but, I can't even stand tight elastic on my belly. I don't wear panyhose anymore, either. Some days, just the seatbelt in the car hurts. I couldn't imagine wearing a girdle. I know I'd be pretty uncomfortable.

If you have your heart set on it, why don't you wear one at home for a day before the reunion and see how it is. I actually find I'm more comfortable in a dress. Nothing pushes on the tummy area.

Good luck and enjoy your reunion.

I can only wear dresses/skirts w/ thigh high stockings or sweat pants. I find that some skirts hide my awful belly better than others--especially if my shirt is a bit long and somewhat lose in the front. --Kathy

Ziggy, don't freak out at this suggestion, but I sometimes wear maternity pants. I balked at the idea at first, but the only jeans I can wear are maternity and at 25 I am not giving up jeans yet! I like the ones that have a real waistband but elastic backs. I know several women here who like the kind with the elastic band. Even a pair that goes over your stomach would give your sore bellly and bladder more room than "regular" pants or skirts and the elacticity of the material may help control your bloated belly without being too tight like a girdle or body shaper. I buy mine in a dress size smaller than I wear. I have a really trendy pair of those very popular "skinny jeans" that I have gotten tons of compliments on and no one knows they are maternity! I haven't tried a girdle or body shaper or anything like that. I think the pressure would cause too much pelvic pain. I too have issues with pantyhose and usually get the thigh high stockings.
Good luck and enjoy your reunion!

Rachel,
That is a great idea! They make pretty hip maternity pants these days.

I'd say, shop for something new that makes you feel confident. People shouldn't place to much focus on your belly anyway. I know I hate mine though. I used to wear bikini's 2 summers ago without worrying about my figure so much. Now, I was to hide under tank tops.
It you feel like the girdle is the way to go, then I don't really see anything wrong with that. It's only for 1 night! I wore a corset type bra to my friend's wedding under my bridesmaid dress. I loosed it up after the ceremony. The funny thing is I had my husband come into the bathroom to help me. When we were walking out, the guy I walked down the aisle with saw us and probably thought we were up to something. :tsk: ha ha
I felt so good with that thing loosened!

Ziggy,
They now make these panties that go higher like almost where you bra is. They are very soft but supportive. I seen them at wal-mart.. Geesh I cant remb what they are called, but its not a girdle but a supportive stomach panty.. This might be easier and more comfy to wear.. Just a sggestion..

mom in MA, Thanks, but it was actually suggested to me by Snady RN. I love mine though, they are really hip and trendy and super comfy, almost like sweats. Also, I have found that the sash belts work great instead of a traditional belt and are super comfy and very "in" right now.

I wear the control top pantys by gloria vanderbilt with no problem...give them a try. i have been noticing alot of the fashion is "empire"waist dress's & tops...they are very feminine & pretty & they are nice & roomy so as not to worry about any bloating~~

Maybe try wearing those Spanx, they are like nylons but they do not have feet and they are suppose to hold you in but I don't think they are as tight as girdles. You can buy them at department stores. I am thinking about ordering a pair online. I think they are comfortable too.

I had a picture of me taken a few weeks back and I look 8 months along! I've tried girdles and that was very painful exspecially a few hours later. I can't wear panty hose either. I have gained weight but most of it is in my stomach area but when I was thin (in the beginning of this) I looked like I was just starting to show. People would ask me when is the baby due.

I would go with one of the other ideas before the girdle. I would hate to see you put yourself in a lot of pain over that. But you could also get lucky and it not hurt you too much. Good luck with whatever you choose!
