Well, I just got back from my cysto with overdistension. I definately have IC. My bladder went into major spasms during the procedure too. The Urologist said I was very inflamed, saw "debris" in my urine and also found an abnormal lesion on the bladder wall. She now wants to schedule surgery to biopsy it.
As soon as the test was over, the nurse gave me a Cipro, Levsin and Pyridium to take. It's calming down now, thankfully.
I also had a spiral CAT scan done of the pelvis. It took no more than 3 minutes. I was amazed.
I'm going to go lay down. Just wanted to let you know that I have now joined the ranks.

I hope you start feeling better and continue to do so. I also hate that you have IC but I thank God you found out what is going on. The sooner you know about IC the better it is for you. Hopefullly your medication will help and that your bladder will feel better.

So sorry to hear that you have IC... but not knowing is definitely half the battle, and hopefully now you will be able to find the right treatments for you. I hope you feel very better soon.

Thank you everyone. You're right. It is better knowing, although in my heart, I did know. Just needed the doc to confirm it on paper. Now, I can go about getting the appropriate treatment and not feel like a "druggie" when I need something for pain.
I have a wonderful urologist and I'm so thankful. I think it helps that she's a woman too. Although she's not an IC specialist, she's very knowledgable about it and she's the one who suggested I start the IC diet before the cysto.
I love the knowledge and warmth on this site. I can't thank everyone enough. It's terribly scary for a new ICer to face this and you wonderful people just take us in your arms and comfort us. I know you're all angels and there is a reason we've all found this site.

I am so sorry that you have IC but I am very glad you found us. I am also very glad that you seem to have a good and understanding doctor. That in itself can be half the battle in the beginning. (((hugs)))

Hi meandmybladder,
Glad you found out what it was.
Im wondering why your uro didnt do the biopsy at the sametime when you had your distentsion done?

Hi Goldseals. To answer your question, I was not anesthesized for the cysto. She scheduled mine through ambulatory surgery and listed it as cystoscopy with overdistention. I think it was a bit different than a true hydrodistention. As soon as I told her It was really hurting, she stopped the flow of fluids into the bladder. She said she saw marked inflammation, the bladder went into spasms and she saw the abnormal growth. Not sure of what else she did see, but it was enough for her to diagnose the IC. I do remember her asking the nurse for a cytology kit so, I'm sure she sent samples of something off to the lab as well.
The other issue is, she wants to do a TVT procedure to lift the bladder. She explained that the biopsy and TVT could both be done at the same time under 1 anesthesia. I still have to think about this one. I do have incontinence and the TVT should help that but, I find a lot of the incontinence is from the spasms. The TVT won't help that. In fact, I'm worried that the procedure itself may trigger more irritation and flaring.
I also made a really stupid mistake. I found an online video of a live TVT procedure. Watched the entire thing wanting to see how this was done. Dumb move. I almost threw up and now I'm a nervous wreck knowing what they'll be doing.
I go next Thursday to the office to go over all the tests and the CAT scan. I'll probably have to make a decision after that so, I'm just going to try to not worry about it right now.

Hi meandmybladder,
I can understand now why your uro wanted to do several procedures.
I also agree seeing a video of a TVT procedure can be very dramatic.
I recentally posted a link to a online video resection of a bladder here on the board. The link stopped working and one of the mods here deleted my post.Maybe it was better because not everyone is into watching this stuff unless your studying to become a doctor.Maybe in my second life I may become a doctor one day:)

These are the kind of posts I hate to see....this is a club I don't want anyone to have to join. But at least you know, and now you can begin the journey to getting better. :grouphug:
