I have an appt with my primary dr to have my heart checked out. Maybe have an ekg test done. I dont know if I have a heart murmor or what but something is going on with me. I get that fluttering feeling and nervousness in my chest near my heart. It happened yesterday at work and it made my hands start shaking. Ahhhh I hate this.
do you have any advice on questions I should ask or other tests I should take? thanks for the advice and pray for me!

Besides the EKG, he might send you to an Cardiologist and they might run their own test, which includes another EKG, maybe an echo; put you on some blood pressure medication to calm your heart down- (I know you probably don't have HBP-but this is what they put you on.) Good luck.

Thanks for your help.... Heart problems runs in my family. My grandma had problems and now so does my mom. But they didnt have problems untill they were older. I'm only 21, so this is weird. I dont think it's any medication i'm on so it has to be a heart murmor or something I have no clue. Thanks again for your advice. I will let you know how it went.

Gosh I wouldn't know what to ask him, just tell him how you have been feeling and let him know there is a family history. Please keep us posted.

I'm sure everything will be okay. Just tell him your symptoms and about what problems your family has had. Let us know how it goes.

The best advice I can give you is to try to stay calm. I hope you get to the root of this and are able to get some help. (((hugs)))

i went to my dr and they did and ekg... which tested normal. I described my symptoms to him and he said it might heart palipatations or something called mitro valve prolapse. He said they're very common however he wants me to see a cardiologist to have an echo or a holter. has anyone had these tests done?? I asked if I start having the problem again what should I do? He gaveme xanex to calm me down for now... I have to check with my insurance to see if i'm covered for all these tests.
I also called my mom last night to see if we have any heart problems in the family. She called me back late last night and we talked for about 15 mins about family history and she is a nurse so she described all this stuff to me so i can understand. She was being very nice to me suprisingly. She didnt say happy birthday to me or anything, oh well but she did say that she hopes i feel better. Before she could start crying and getting all emotional and start preaching to me i thanked her and said bye and hung up. I'm so proud of myself for not getting all worked up talking to her. I guess that means i'm over everything huh? I had my closure last month and I've choisen my family... people who really care about me.
Thanks for all the support and I'de appreciate any more advice about these new tests. I will let you know if i'm going to have them done.
Love you girls!!!

I'm glad everything is ok so far! It sounds like your doctor is smart by referring you to a specialist. I'm happy you got to speak to your mom. Keep us posted, I was very worried about you!

Rachel,
I have had to wear the halter thing before. They just hook some things up to your chest and give you this this little machine to take home with you and you wear it for 24 hours and then they take the readings from the monator.
Take care.. Oh and I am so proud of you for the way you handled your phone call with your mom..:smile tee

Rachel happy Birthday and I hope you start feeling better. A while back I did take slo-mag. I think this is the same thing you are talking about. It is magnesium and calcium together. You can get it over the counter but sometimes you have to ask for it in the pharmacy department. But no RX is require. My doctor told me to get it because of spasms in my legs, it did help with the spasms even though my legs still aches. Maybe that is why your doctor think it might help you because of the fluttering and nerves by your heart. When the pain is by your heart it is a scary thing, and different things can cause it. I hope you find out what is causing it. Please let us know if the slo-mag is helping.
Take care, Trishann

Rachel,
I have had your symptoms many times before..it can be very scary! I also went to my GP and he had an echo done and also had me wear a holder. Tests came back just fine:) Turns out I have panic attacks that hit me even when I am NOT panicking! I take Paxil, Klonopin at bedtime and Xanax as needed.
The Xanax will help ALOT if it is panic/anxiety related!

Rachel, I had the same thing sweetie. It didn't happen all the time and there was no pain involved but, it would start for no reason and actually take my breath away for a few seconds. It scared the beejeebers out of me. I had the holter, echo and a stress test done. None of these tests are invasive or painful. Everything turned out fine. The cardiologist said it was PAT's (paroxysmal atrial tachycardia ) and nothing serious. For whatever reason, you get an adreneline rush, much like when you're startled and sacred. It eventually went away but I found that caffeine, alcohol and stress caused it to happen. I also discovered that coughing helped to stop it.
Best of luck to you. I know it's scary. Hoping everything turns out well for you.

Rachel- I have had both, an echo is like an ultrasound of your heart takes maybe 30 minutes or so. Holter monitor you wear for 24 hours it monitors your heart activities. Can't take it off - can't shower for 24 hours. Hopefully it will be nothing, sounds like your doctor is on the right track by sending you to a cardio. Let us know how things go.
