Cystoscopy with Hydro]]]Okay after the procedure for those who were under general anesthesia. Do you feel dizzy can you still do things at home. I know it will hurt when I have to pee. I just want to know what everyone does after the procedure? I have planned to just watch T.V and or read? I know i'll be dizzy from the anesthesia. What do you with the burning. I will also have a biopsy. Please let me know. I will appreciate it very much. I am scheduled for tomorrow. Thank you. Bless you.
Reading and watching TV sound perfect. Don't try to do too much. Don't forget to take your pain meds as scheduled. Sometimes people think because there is no incision or bleeding that they haven't really been through that much. Of course renting a few comedies might make the pain killers more fun.:lmao:Good luck with your procedure and make sure you take it easy, no need to be a hero or a martyr.

After I get home, I usually take a warm bath, take pyridium, pain meds and get and bed and usually sleep off and on that whole day. The next day I usually have the burning somewhat and still need pain meds. I usually just watch tv, read, no heaving lifting or pushing for about two days. Then things return to normal, although it usually takes about two weeks before I feel the benefits from the procedure. I believe the bladder has to heal, then I get a great deal of relief from having to go to the bathroom, meaning I start having to go only about every three hours. Good luck. I don't know if you have ever had general anth. but I get really nausea with it so I make sure they know that so they give me something for that also and I always have a barf bag in car, been known to throw up before I get home, it is a 30 min. ride. Only eat bland food also. I usually start with toast, dry cereal, then build up to something more. Drink alot of water also.
I had my urethra stretched while I was under, I guess it is pretty common practice. I was told no tub baths, hot tubs or swimming for a week. I guess things are a little more open and infection prone. If you like a nice bath (I love it) make sure you know whether they did this little extra procedure. I'll be praying for you.

I took it really easy the day of and a couple of days after. I was still really tired for almost a week afterwards. That could have just been me though, the nurse from the uro's office thought it was strange.
Good luck!:smile tee

The day of the procedure, I pretty much slept the day away, the next day I was up and about not really doing much -- by the weekend I was doing things like the washing (had the family bring their laundry baskets to the washing area so that I didn't have to carry them); read and watch tv. By Monday was back at work; of course I have an office job so if I start to hurt I can get out my heating pad and use that and just do computer work all day. Good luck with yours.

Hope all goes well for you. As others have said, take your pain meds and Pyridium as scheduled and take it easy and be sure to contact your dr, even if it is after hours, if you are experiencing retention, severe bloating or severe pain or constipation. These complications are rare but something to watch out for. I haven't had nausea from general anesthesia but severe headaches the day after. I seem to react abnormally to general anesthesia and when I get home from a day surgery I am unusually awake and active and terribly thirsty and hungry. I pay the price the next day and that's when I finally hit the sack.:loco: Keep us posted on how things go. Best wishes:angel:

Yikes, I can't believe they didn't give you any pain meds :(, at the least Tylenol 3, which is what I was given after my surgeries. Other people have said that they get vicodin, which is for most people a stronger pain med. If you are really hurting I would call your drs answering service and have him call in a prescription for something. I can't imagine ibuprofen being any where near helpful for the after hydro pain. I hope you feel better soon. Yeah, the peeing is a nightmare...if you have a sitz bath you can fill it with warm water and that can make it easier and a little less painful to go in that and then rinse with fresh water. If you don't have a sitz bath that fits on the toilet you can use the tub in the same way. Hope you feel better soon. :grouphug:

OMG no pain meds after a hydro!!! I asked my uro when he told me that he wanted to do it if I would have pain meds afterwards. The nurse gave me a vicoden in the recovery room and I had some at home that the dr had already given me an rx for. The nurse had told me if I still had pain in 20 minutes when I got home I could take a second vicoden, which I did. I can't imagine just taking ibuprofen afterwards. All ibuprofen helps with is headaches for me, it doesn't do anything for bladder/pelvic pain. Ouch!! I agree with Briza, maybe call the answering service and ask for something to be called in for you. I just had to call my GP's office this morning and ask for some more vicoden to be called in as I have my next appt on Friday and there is no way I will last that long w/o any.

thanks briza. I forgot to say I am allergic to codiene. My lungs close up and I can't breathe. I had that problem when I was at the hospital three years ago. I wasn't able to breathe and the nurse told the doc n he said I was allergic to it. Is the worst feelings in the world. I put warm water and I pray when I pee, I know it sounds weird. They gave me cipro and boy am I dizzy!!!!!!!I feel joint pain. Is weird. I just feel dizzzy. I can't take ibuprofen anymore because It interacts with the Cipro.
thanks to everyone for all the replys and comments =).

I also now have a pain med called dilaudid 4 mg (hydromorphone hcl). It does not contain codeine and is very good for bad pain. Possibly an option? I hate to hear of you suffering. This is not fair. :( Ultram and Ultracet also do not contain codeine, and while possibly not as effective as other pain meds, definitely better than anything sold OTC. And ibuprofen is also not very well tolerated by IC patients...acidic.
I cannot imagine going through a hydro without pain meds. Have you tried ice or heat? I would stay away from the Ibuprophen, that stuff causes problems for a lot of us. Hopefully you can get the doctor to call something in for you, there are plenty of pain meds that don't contain Codeine. I hope you are feeling better soon.
