I'm not sure which is causing my current flare...

I recently started taking Trileptal for a mood disorder (can't take any of the antidepressants - they cause terrible flares). At the same time, we got a new Grind and Brew coffee pot, which brews great, fresh coffee. I'm thinking that it is the coffee causing the awful frequency, acidity and pain I have right now.

Could it be the Trileptal?

Tomorrow I am going to try tea instead of the strong coffee and see if that helps.

I also started taking my Pyridium, Elmiron, calcium, Prelief, etc. Hopefully in a few days I will feel better.

It must be the coffee, becaue I only have the frequency for several hours in the morning after I've had the coffee.

What shoud I do?

Happy 4th,
For what it's worth my urologist told me no coffee.
Have a great day,
Sue

Tea and coffee are among the most common IC triggers. My suggestion would be to stick to herbal tea to see if tea or coffee is a problem. If that's it, it's easy to remedy! And once you begin to feel better, you might try one of the low acid coffees.

Agree with Donna. If you try herbal tea, try chamomile (if no ragweed allergy) or peppermint. Those are the easiest for IC patients to tolerate. And you'll probably have to stop the tea or coffee for a week to let your bladder calm down so you'll know for sure. Sorry, this is one of my least favorite aspects of IC.

When I drink coffee (I know, shame, shame, shame!) I do go alot more. Actually, I have been noticing that I go so much more when I drink coffee that I feel like I leak afterwards, kind of like I have not emptied all the way. I had to start wearing Serenity Liners so my undies didn't get wet. By the way, those liners tiny. I have not tried drinking tea instead of coffee though.
