Hi:

I am new to this forum, and this is my first post. My main question is: how soon after you eat or drink something problematic does it take for the symptoms to appear in your bladder? Can it be as short as 30 minutes or as long as a day or more? Thank you.

I can have a flare within a half hour if I do something really stupid like drink a soda --- but I can also flare a day or more if it's a mild irritant or if I get brave and have more than one of my "occasionally safe" foods.

Donna:

Do you mean that it may take a day before the flair starts--or that the flair lasts for a day or more? How long does it typically take after you have eaten something "bad" to know that you have triggered the symptoms? Thank you for your help with this.

My doctor told me I would know in 30 minutes after I ate something that could cause a flare. But I have noticed it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours before I start having any symptoms. Everyone is different and each food effects us differently. There is no one answer. Sorry.

Flare time is also different, at least for me. Sometimes I will only flare for a day or two, but my most recent one lasted four days. If you are in a flare, make sure that you are taking Prelief with acidic foods, take some TUMS and drink lots of water. I don't know about others, but that tends to help me.

:welcome: For me I usually know within an hour and the flare can last sometimes a day or more, but I have learned that if I start to flare from food or something I drink. I can start drinking more water to flush my system out and it will pass sooner..Hope this helps:smile tee

If I take a drink of a fizzy soda, it will hurt within a half hour. If I eat one of my foods that I can have occasionally (example: bananas or strawberries) I will probably be okay, but if I repeat it tomorrow (for example, if I have a banana today and then strawberries tomorrow), then it may not hurt until several hours after I eat the strawberries. I think the problem foods add up for me.
