Hi everyone. Here is my story. I saw my gyno on May 25. I was having to urinate alot (espically) at night and I was having mild pains. Well naturally it was out of his league so he sent me to a uro. After explaining my symptom, which really was just the fact that I was peeing alot, he did that thing were he put me to sleep and filled my bladder up with water. Well when I awoke he confirmed that I had IC. He tells me I will have to go to his office once a week to get "bladder treatments". Well last Monday was my 4th one and since I was diagnosed on June 11,2007, my pains went from almost non-existent to constant. He has me on Urised and I will be picking up a RX for Elmiron this afternoon. When I explained that the Vicoden ES were not effectice and I had to start taking 2-3 at a time he decided to put me on Darvocet.LOL. Can anyone explain this to me? I have a appt. Monday to see a URO that specializes in IC, hopefully that will help. I just don't understand how these treatments that are suppose to be helping me only seem to be causing my pain. Any suggestions? I am new to this and find this web site very informative. I have learned alot more from reading all of ya'll post than talking to my Dr. Any direct info will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the Elmiron and Darvocet combo will be effective in relieving some of your pain. I am wondering if your bladder just doesn't like the instills and once they are stopped and out of your body....maybe you will feel much better. Hopefully the IC Specialist will be more helpful to you.
I hope someone else can help in answering your concerns.

I don't understand why he stepped down your pain meds:help:
On the bright side..maybe the Darvocet will help since it is a different concotion. It's just not very strong for some people (like me) It worked in the very beginning for minor abdominal pain..I quickly developed a tolerance taking it as prescribed.
I am so frustrated with DR's. I really feel for you. Sometimes I feel soooo "at their mercy."
I have the instillations done 2 a week at my GYn's office. i am on treatment #3 and so far so good. Less pain, less flares. Godd luck, you're not alone out there! :grouphug:

He said he switched me from th ES to the Darvocet, because the ES were addictive. I guess I just don't understand what's really going on? I am seeing a new Dr. on Monday, but already I feel like this has consumed my life. And I've only been diagnosed for 3weeks. I am constantly on this site since I stumbled across it looking for and needing answers. I have read about some of the cases and am TERRIFIED. I have constant pain, but I can't imagine it lasting for the rest of my life~

Hi Gvedros1,
You will figure all this out soon enough.Do you have a trace of blood in your urine?Do soft drinks give you pain and frequency? How bout taking ibuprofen? All these things give me pain and burning. The ibuprofen does work for a short time till the burning starts for me.If the doctor has ruled out cancer then its probably ic that you have.I mean all the symptoms seem to be there.
Hope your feeling better today.

It can take a while to find the most effective things for you specifically to get your bladder pain controlled --- and some will take several weeks to recover from the hydrodistention procedure.
Are you following an IC diet? That can be extremely important. The Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook will help you learn about the various treatment options.
Sending warm healing thoughts,

I'm sorry that it worsened your pain. You should try the IC diet if you are not already on it. I started having symptoms in January, it started out with a UTI and a yeast infection and turned into this. It is very scary at first and I still have my moments that I just feel overwhelmed with it. I just try to remember that God does not give us anything that we cannot handle. My symptoms have improved, I still have pain on a daily basis, but not as bad of pain. I slowly can see that all of my other problems I am having are becoming fixed. I take Elmiron and Hydroxzine. I currently quit Elmiron three days ago because we are trying to conceive. WHere is your pain at? Have you asked your doctor about Elavil? I have heard that helps with the pain. There of course is a drawback, it makes some gain weight. I think there are other drugs that are similar that won't make you gain weight. I believe there is also a cream or gel Elavil produces, I am not for sure if that will make you gain weight either. Make sure you write down a list of questions for your doctor so you don't forget anything. Also if you can bring someone with you so you have two sets of ears listening to the information. Hope you start feeeling better soon!
