Help! I need Club UTI to take me away!

I'm almost positive I have a UTI....I started the Bactrim they prescribed me back in Mar (they gave me 5 refills to use at my discretion) I am taking Pyridium Plus so I can get around and function somewhat....

I'm still feeling uncomfortable.....i'm on day 2 of AB's....how is the normal time to start feeling some relief.....I've already pulled out one of the many lab requisition forms I have on hand in case I need to go to the lab tonite to drop off a sample, just in case Bactrim isn't the right drug......should I wait til tommorow afternoon to wait and see.....

Nurses & Others: If you're out there.....I just need some way to guage what's going on.

But now that I've taken the Bactrim....it'll screw up the results

Awww, ((((((hugs))))))) yvette. I'm so sorry that you're feeeling so crappy. I'm sure there is a room waiting for you. I hope that someone can pipe up and give you some answers about your UTI. I've only had one confirmed one in my whole life so I really don't know anything about them.

I suggest you call the lab and ask how long you need to be off the antibiotics before they can do an accurate culture. I do know that antibiotics can interfere.

Sometimes what I do is take a urine sample, put it in the fridge, THEN take the antibiotic. Then I drop off the sample first thing in the morn when the lab opens. I only do it that way if it's emergent. Otherwise I would drop off the sample that day is the lab is still open. It's a catch because you want to take something to start to get better but then you don't want to change the results of the culture. I know. I deal with this often and each time I never know what the right thing to do is.

I've got a room waiting for you but it's in NY. Flowers of your choice, Candles, warm baths, soft sounds, a soft bed with netting draped around, your own bathroom with all of the things that you need, flufffy white towels and a robe, some girly magazines and some nice books. Oh and I used to do manicures, pedicures and I was known for giving great hand and foot massages.

(I still have that candle you gave to me several years ago)

I hope you get correct answers to your questions from the other ladies.

Kara - That is such a good idea to take the sample first - I've never thought to do that before.

I would venture to say that the lab result would be false being on antibiotics for 2 days already. Pydrium can also give weird result. Hugs hope you start to feel better. Can I join in on the club without any major symtoms just to hang and chat?

Nice pic Kim. I keep a bunch of sterile cups at home. I asked my Uro and she handed me some. The best thing is to get a urine sample in the sterile cup (clean catch of course), take your AB AFTER, then take your urine to the lab, Dr's office etc. Try to avoid UTI triggers before a weekend (like sex) that way if you have a UTI it is better to have it during the week when you have more access to lab, doctors etc. My uro told me not to have sex on Fridays, instead on Sundays. Oh well.
Play detective: know what bacteria is causing your UTI if possible, where is it coming from? What is your trigger?
I can't afford UTIs b/c I bleed when I have one and they are VERY painful one so I do all that protocol I mentioned above and even more...annoying but I got to do it!
Also do bottle washing and/or take a shower after BM...
Hope you feel better soon Yvette! Sorry my tips don't sound too much like a club med scenario but you still pamper yourself, put a nice classical music CD, light a candle, read a good book as part of the protocol too ;-)
