Yesterday after work a wholesaler took me and about 10 people out for dinner and drinks. I was drinking san gria... i had alot but that's not the problem. Last night after I sobered up I took do my usual ritual before I go to get... get ready take 1 ultram and then go to bed. Well I layed down not even for 3 minutes and then I started getting that fluttery nervous feeling in my chest near my heart again. I used to get it when I was taking Elavil. My uro told me to stop it so I did. It's been about 2 months without elavil and this is the first time I've gotten the feeling again since stoping it. I dont understand. The feeling was so horrible I couldnt go to sleep. I was up late till about 2:30 watching the movie Now and Then. Good movie but It's agrivating... any ideas as to why this is happening? Maybe I should see a caridologist? I was kinda scard last night.
Thanks for listening
Hi Rachel,
It does sound like a visit to the doctor is in order. Maybe start with your primary care doctor & go from there? I'd call today, that's a little scary.
You might also check with your pharmacist to see if any of your medicines or supplements interact poorly with alcohol-- even though you weren't feeling the alcohol anymore, it was still in your system.
Let us know how it turns out, okay?

I agree with Kadi. It's possible it was a bad reaction with the alchohol, but it's always best to talk to your doctor.

If it was the alcohol then why was I getting this feeling before? Have you experienced that feeling before? It's like this horrible pressure and flutterin on my heart, I almost wanted to stick a knife in my chest last night. I had 2 cups of chamomile tea and watching tv to calm down this feeling. If i didnt have the tea it would have lasted alot longer. Maybe I have something wrong with my heart? I'm only 20, in 7 days i'll be 21... how can i have heart problems already? It doesnt run in my family. I'm so confused.

Rachel...Stop worrying and stop thinking the worst. That's not going to help. I know that everytime something odd happens to me, I immediately start thinking that I have some kind of horrible thing wrong with me. :shake: See your doctor and then you will know for sure what is going on. (((HUGS)))

Alcohol and pain medications do not mix well. Please get in touch with your doctor.

For starters, like mentioned pain meds and alcohol DO NOT mix. Please dont do this again.
PVC's are premature ventricular contractions; its when the heartbeat occurs out of sync with the normal rhythm. It can be felt as an "irregular beat", a feeling as if the heart has "skipped" a beat, or as a hard heartbeat as if the heart is hitting the chest wall. The high majority of PVC's are completely harmless. Like Sharon said, dont work yourself up over this. You have no reason to think its anything serious at this time. And whats worrying going to do anyway??--it could just exascerbate the PVC's then thats going to cause panic, and the cycle starts all over again.
I started experiencing PVC's out of the blue in my early 20's. I've undergone numerous EKG's, echocardiograms, Holter monitors and stress tests. I can certainly empathize with you regarding how disturbing these episodes can be. One thing I've learned to do when this occurs is to cough as hard/deep as possible. The force of the cough will 'shock' the heart back into its normal rhythm.
Keep us posted how your Dr visit goes.
Thinking of you....
Diana :)

I too, have experienced these symptoms. I had a week a of my heart fluttering and pounding do hard that i was unable to sleep. I tried chamomile tea, warm milk and Xanax (thinking it was a panic attack) it didn't help..nothing helped. I was up all night fo a week straight and began to dread the night time because my syptoms worsened then.
I saw my PCP and he ordered a bunch of tests and started me on a beta blocker to regulate my heartbeat. This helped tremendously and all the tests returned normal.
I don't take the beta blocker anymore, my DR attributed it all to stress. i really felt I was having serious heart problems. It helps so much to go to the DR, have the tests done to rule out anything of a serious nature and just be heard. And of course sharing on these wondeful threads. You are not alone!
I would also consider that your thyroid might be off. Often when you are either hypo or hyper, the heart misbehaves. Just my two cents..Hope it helps.
Here is a great big hug from me to you<<<<HUG>>>> I've been there and it isn't fun. Good luck!

D...That is a great tip. I will file it away in this dusty ol thing someone might call a brain. It will probably come in handy. Most tips here, do.
