Woke up today with both legs blue from the knee down...they are so painful it hurts to walk, and it hurts to have my legs hanging down from a sitting position. I'm assuming this is the Raynaud's flaring its ugly head, but I just don't really know....

Anyone else with Raynaud's have this awful leg pain? It's really making a total mess out of my day. None of my pain meds help it except advil which I can only take on an occasional basis.

Sandy, if my legs were blue, and hurt when hanging down I would run to my doctors office to be sure I didnt have some impairment in circulation or a small clot?

SandyRN,

I have Raynauds but it usually only affects the digits of the extremeties or my hands or feet, not the entire leg area. That sounds more like a possible blood clot....

I'd go see your doctor immediately as it sounds like a possible severe cirulation issue moreso than what Raynauds causes cirulation wise.

I pray you feel better soon and its nothing serious  On another note...it also could be your BP medication...have you upped it lately or changed a dose at all? Just a thought...but either way I'd have it checked out with your Rhumy

I've had numerous tests for clots, circulation, etc. I guess that by elimination they are calling it Raynauds. The leg pain has eased up but not until I laid with my legs elevated for hours on a heating pad. Even with the heat my legs were still splotchy blue.

:::scratches head::: I'm a walking, talking medical mystery sometimes!

Thanks so much for the support!

sandy,
i have never had it as severe as what you're describing, but i've woken up (mainly in winter/fall) with my legs so blue/purple and swollen that it is near impossible to move...and just TOUCHING them is agony. if it hasn't subsided, maybe a doc visit is in order?

i used to use compression stockings (or circulation stockings?) years ago and i think they helped. have you ever tried them? i think i'd like to start again. my insurance company LOOOOOOOOVES me lol. i just give them more and more to pay out. i think i meet my deductible the 1st week of feb HAHAHAHA.

hope you're feeling better.

The compression stockings are a great idea. The theory was that my ciruclation was bad, but I had doppler studies of both legs, and tons of other tests that show the blood is flowing like it should. It's so confusing...I know most people with Raynaud's only have it in their hands and feet, so of course I've got to have the extreme symptoms.

My legs are much better, just really sore from all the work I did this weekend. I think I will buy a pair or two of those stockings, I think they might help the pain when it flares!

Thanks so much! :)
