I have a cysto/hydro tomorrow and I am wondering about when the best time is to take preventive antibiotic since I'm so prone to infection? The Dr said it was no problem but am I supposed to take it before or after the procedure? And how much? Anyonw know? ~Ann

I would ask the doctor if he could run something in through your IV during the procedure. If you're prone to infections, even though everything in the OR is supposed to be sterile, it doesn't take much to send those little bacteria to your bladder. Give him a call today and ask which he would prefer to do. I think taking the pill before the procedure, and then a dose of antibiotic IV in the OR.

Just my opinion, but you might run it by your doctor. I know that my uro did give me antibiotics IV because I'd had such severe bladder and kidney infections just weeks before the hydro and he didn't want me ending up in the hospital yet again.

Hope this helps!

An natural antibiotic to prevent uti's is echinacea. It's supposed to help fight off infections and colds. I just found out about it and I might start to try it. I also take D-mannose to help prevent uti's. I hope that helps.
