View Full Version : A Photo a Day Keeps the Doctors Away

I was wondering if anyone would like to join me with "a photo a day"?
I thought as a way of distracting myself from some of the less painful days I have, that I would post a photo a day for those of you who take joy in seeing photos on an ongoing daily basis. I love seeing all of the photos you take. It's a nice break away from the everyday. I thought it would be fun.

If you're feeling up to it and have the time...

I took this while on a walk with my very tired Mom. She's an oil painter and she has a good eye. June always reminds me of pretty things.

I'm game!
However, I'm going to have to post a picture from this weekend to start off with as I'm sick as a dog at the moment.

the American Rover, Norfolk....

Diana,

That ship is breath taking. I love the water and anything to do with it. Was it a festival of ships or just The American Rover?

I hope you are feeling better by now. :grouphug:

Kara---thanks for the well wishes. i'm slowly starting to feel a bit more human-like (i'm battling bronchitis and pneumonia :( ) :).

The American Rover is a local tall ship that offers cruises down the harbor. It's also available for charter for special events......This picture, however was taken this past weekend during Sail Virginia 2007, a 4 day long festival of tall ships from around the world and the States. I posted a few pictures on the other photo thread if you're interested in taking a peek. :D

The pond picture has a very tranquil feel. The flowering plant/weed/bush-did someone plant that there, or did it show up on its own?

:)

D,

That's really interesting about the Ships. I will look at the rest of your photos on the other thread. Those flowers, I believe were planted. There's a small community of gardeners around that area that work together. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Nice idea Kara.
There's not too much to get excited about in my garden at the moment. However this cactus always does its best to brighten a dull area. I have no idea at all what variety it is but its 'hardy'...:lmao: Thats why it has survived!

Hi Rosalie!
That cactus looks just like mine! We have had it since my oldest was 5 (now 18) it took that cactus about 6-7 years before it "bloomed". I just wish we new exactly what type it is!

Janie,

That fuscia color captivates me every time I see it in flowers. It's almost so bright it's meditating.

Tracey and Leelee,

Can't wait until you gather yours up.

Rosalie,

I wonder if we can look that cactus up for it's name?

(We found a Deer Nest on a walk through the woods) I've never seen one before.

Kari, the easist way is to get a photobucket account if you don't already have one. Once you upload your pictures from your computer to your photobucket account then you are ready to get the codes you need to add them to the message boards.

Each picture will have a little box next to the picture name. Click in that box, then go all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on generate html and img code.

This will take you to a different page where there will be different codes that you can copy. The third one down says:
IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended
Click on that code and it will copy it and then paste it in your post that you are typing and that will show a small thumbnail of the picture that people can click on to see the full size version.

Finally I am able to add a couple! Yay! I am loving everyone's photos, so nice! Yeah, D, now I HAVE to get to the family cabin, get some beach shots and I can walk to a historic lighthouse from there that's supposed to be haunted, lol and get some shots there. My hubby's cousin (would that be my cousin-in-law??) gave us a great shot of the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse (on Lake Huron) that's just gorgeous! (he's the one with the telescope and gets great moon pictures etc) But also shamed me - I LIVE here and have never taken on photo of the thing, isn't that crazy??? It takes an out-of-towner to make me want to head over there, lol. If you drive to it from the cabin, it's like a minute or two to get there. Cousin said one night he took the tripod down to get some night shots there, and when he was done hopped into his truck. Started to back up and heard a boom and felt like he hit something. So, he got out to investigate, there was nothing there. Once again, he tried to back up and felt like he hit something, this time he said the hairs on the back of his neck went up and he just kept on going, there was still nothing there! Ok, now I want to go there at night now too, yes, I am not right in the head, ha ha!!!

And Janie! How close to that bee were you - meaning how far away does your lens let you "bee" - yes pun intended, lol. But I am curious! I am still having a heck of a time with my Macro - then there's that Super Macro. I think that one most likely is meant to work with the Macro lens adapter you can get for the camera, but I don't know. *sigh*

Ok, enough chatter (oh, by the way, nice to see you Trishann!) here's some pics:

Here's one of my Super Macro experiments:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/ethereal_24/th_June12007070.jpg (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/ethereal_24/June12007070.jpg)

And finally, one of the Geraniums hubby kept going all winter (just like his grandma did, lol) blooming:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/ethereal_24/th_June12007087.jpg (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/ethereal_24/June12007087.jpg)

Well, Janie, hee hee, that little bug was on my viburnum that was INFESTED (yuck) with aphids that she was hopefully dining on, sooooooo, since they have also decided the rest of my garden is a great place to be - I have plenty to spare. And since I love to share, I could package up some aphids to supply your yard for some ladybug feasting?! ;) Just a thought! hee hee hee

Tracey--woohooo!!..you've got pics to share!!:woohoo: That little ladybug is cute as a bug! Although they too freak me out when they start flying. Something about their wings, who knows :loco: ! Now, you MUST get to that lighthouse and get some pics so we can all see, and maybe you'll even have a spooky tale to tell us :)

Jane--I see you're still on your ladybug hunt. Perhaps you should take Tracey up on her offer to mail you some. :hmm:

Kara--while birds can be interesting, like I mentioned something about them freak me out. I think its the fact that they're nothing more than modern day dinosaurs. :help:

Trishann--hopefully you'll have the picture uploading figured out soon; its actually quite simple..:) If you need any help, I'm sure someone here will be more than happy to instruct you..:D

Not sure if I mentioned that I'm a bird grandma again. I've got 3 babies in the nest as I type. I attempted to take some pics this morning though havent uploaded them yet. Hoping to do that soon, so I'll maybe I'll have a pic or two thats worth sharing. :) <insert time lapse here>...Ok, I managed to get one half-way decent picture. Our remodel in the Master Bath is taking a bit longer to get done as is always the case with construction. I thought you might like to "have a peek" at the Shower Stall Marble that is going in. In the upper right, you can see where the box will be for shampoo, etc. The piece of marble sticking out in the middle lower corner will be a step for washing my feet and shaving my legs.

It's so hot here today, I was mesmerized by the water. I wanted to jump right in.

Hi everyone. I've been enjoying your photos! Kara the pool looks inviting!

Tig,and SueBee enjoyed looking through your photos and of course, Diana's photos are always fun and fabulous!

My sister came for a visit and brought my mom. Mom will be here for most of the rest of the summer so I might not be posting quite as much as usual.
I did take some studio portraits of my little neice (who was here with my sister) if anyone wants to see them IM me and I'll send you the link.

I was going to jump into that pool today and lounge around it BUT as soon as I got out of the shower it started to POUR Buckets of rain. No hail this time. And it's still raining.....Grrrrrrr

Sue,

The Grad photos are so vivid. I really liked them. And your flowers.....I serioulsy lose my breath when they come up because they are so lovely. They make me think of..........well they make me think of HAPPY Moments.

D,

Yes I would love for you all to come to my pool, although I'd rather be on the beach by you. I like oceans and lakes, especially on a boat. A boat that has a place to pee on of course.

Janie,

Your photos always inspire me to want to go and grab my camera and just keep shooting........Are you selling?

Tracey and Rosalie, Are ya there?? I hope you are pain free today and enjoying some nice weather.

I put up a song that reminds me of you all. It's on Jills new thread. http://www.ic-network.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39959

I'm here! I'm here!! :) Been hopping lately helping the inlaws with the family cottage. Had to move the stuff into the back room as it's getting new flooring and kitchen cabinets! YAY! But anywho....

Sharon - A bit late on this one, but tell hubby thanks for the compliment, hee hee. And that bath of yours is going to be FAB!! It reminds me of my inlaw's, and I LOVE that one, so, um, should I bring my own shampoo and towels??

Suebee - GREAT photos, my hubby would just drool over the foxglove it's one of his FAVORITES! No wonder, it's lovely stuff!!! Aren't Sweet Williams (the flowers that is, hee hee) just wonderful critters? Mine are so darn dependable, back every year and always so lovely. And yep, can be a bit wandering, lol!! And that is one handsome grandson you got there, wow!!! :)

Diana - ok, I gotta ask, doesn't the waitstaff wonder why the heck you are taking a picture of your food? LOL Do they think it's for evidence or something? Or are they just used to the crazy lady who photographs her breakfasts???? And what lovely grandbirds you have there, I swear they have your eyes, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!

HEY TIG! - Where's some more Jake shots????

Kara - can I come to the pool too!?! I love pools, mostly because I know what's on the bottom, hee hee. But I have this weird phobia about the drain cover, lol.:loco: They scare me so I stay far far away.... And how did you know I love Rascal Flatts?? They are my all time faves, and that song is one of my favorites by them, it's so positive!

Janie - great photos, those are beautiful flowers, but then I am biased, I do love my green things!!!! ;) Have fun with your mom there, that's got to be a really nice visit!!!!

Ok, here's some of my latest shots:

Tracey!,

The flowers are awesome. So simple, yet happy. It will be so nice to see the new cabinets in and in use.

Yes, I love Rascal Flatts.

Hey, I have a question for you when you have time to pop on in here again.....I think I may have the same camera as you do, or some version of it. (((PowerShot S3 IS))) I am wondering if you know how to take photos of fireworks? Our 6 year anniversary is this weekend and we have fireworks.
YES, I know what you are thinking....We still have the sparks after 14 years of being together. The fire works are from a festival up on our hill.

D, Have you named the little ones yet?

Have a Good Night Ladies........I will try my best to get a photo up tomorrow if it doesn't rain again.

Tracey--:woohoo: you've got pictures!!! I love that "butterfly" flower. Could you please bring some with you when you come to landscape my yard!!?! I have to also comment that the lake-side cabin is adorable and nevermind how peaceful it looks! I surely hope y'all take advantage of that every chance you get! :)
And it surely doesnt look like you and MIL are getting much work done, what with posing for pics!..hahaha...Its a lovely picture of you two though! I think it was well worth the time to stop and capture the moment! :)
Not sure about everyone else--except for Jane 'cause we all know shes nuts that way--however I'm anxiously awaiting your "icky bug shot".

Funny you should ask about me photographing my food; I usually dont get any comments, however the waitress we had this past weekend kept laughing and would give me strange looks, kind of smug-like. I put up with it the first time, the 2nd time I gave her the over-the-shoulder eye roll and stare! hahahaha

Kara---I havent named the grandbirds. Figured its probably no use cause they all look alike and I'd never be able to tell one from the other. Thinking about it though, I could do like my friend who has identical triplets--when they were babies she had to paint their toenails each a different color in order to tell them apart--perhaps I could do this with the little dirty birdy feet.. :hmm:

Ciao' for now.....

:hi: Everyone...I am sorry that I have been MIA but I have not been feeling well. Not IC related, just aches and pains and a constant headache. I think it is sinus connected plus all the dust that the remodel has caused. I just have not felt like spending a lot of time on my computer.

I have enjoyed everyone's pictures, especially the ocean ones, D...But then I have confessed to having Beach Envy. That goes for you, too Tracey...Love the Lake Cabin. Oh, and all those beautiful flowers Janie and Sue. :woohoo:

Speaking of Cabins...We did not end up going to the Ozarks, after all. As I stated above, I have not been feeling like my usual self, plus this bathroom remodel is taking way too much time. Even our remodel guy offered to do this free of charge because it has taken so long. Of course, we will not take him up on his offer. After all, we still have another bathroom to remodel plus other stuff and we will need him.

The Marble is all in, finally, and tomorrow our guy will come over to check if it is ready to grout. Once that is done, we can order the shower doors and Hubby will install the sink and toilet. It will be a while before we can use the shower as the grout has to cure for a couple of weeks longer, but I will at least be able to brush my teeth and pee in my own bathroom. I get rather lost in the middle of the night if I have to get up to go. And, of course, I have had to do that much more since we began this remodel.

Okay...My head is beginning to throb so I guess I have overstayed my welcome so I will sign off for now. (((HUGS)))

Thanks ladies...I am a bit better today. Yesterday was the worst. That blasted headache stayed with me throughout the day and into the night. Hubby wanted to take me out for breakfast this morning, but I wasn't up to it. I feel like I have been beaten with a broomstick...very sore.

Sharon--glad to hear you're starting to feel a bit better. Sorry though that you had to turn down a breakfast offer. When you're up to par, get the husband to take you out for breakfast, lunch AND dinner as a raincheck!:D
You're bathroom is coming along nicely! Its going to be a luxury once its completed and put to use, I'm sure. Keep us updated of the progress--I love it! :)

Jane--I'm sorry to hear about your husbands current situation. Fortunately whatever the problem it was caught early before anything drastic happened. Heart procedures have come so far that I'm sure John is in the best hands and will do fine. My words probably dont help the shock that you're dealing with...just know that John and you are in my thoughts. :kissing:
And did I mention--love the flower and bee shot!!! :D

Tracey--still waiting on the icky bug..:)

Sue--you find all kinds of interesting things..haha..I take it you didnt put this feeder out?

I got a surprise early birthday gift in the mail today from my brother--an Olympus Evolt 500. This is a nice addition to the gift my husband gave me last night--the Canon Digital Reble XTI! :woohoo: I've taken a picture of the Olympus since I already opened it, and I'll post it later on. My husband wont let me open the Canon until Monday; its sitting in the box in the my living room. I'll include that picture as well.

Ciao' for now

Prayers for your husband Janie, love your bee. The hummingbird feeder is one of three I have outside the sliding glass door. I have counted up to 12 this year, perhaps some are new babies. I found a bug to share this morning:

D...Is your hubby into torture? :lmao: Must be since he gave you your B-day gift but is not allowing you to open the box and play with it. Maybe he needs to get in touch with Jack Bauer and offer his services during his next very long day. ;)

:birthday: Diana :birthday: I thought that since you have begun to celebrate your B-Day already, I would join in and wish you an early :birthday: also.

Sue...I am looking forward to your Hummingbird pictures. They are so much fun to watch.

I have no idea what flower that was. I wish I knew. Maybe I can do some searching and find out. The fireworks are tonight! I can't wait!!!!!!!

Photo for Today.....

This is my 12 year old Bunny Rabbit. His name is Sidney. He was with me before I was diagnosed with IC. He's been through all of our moves from college, Boston, Back to NY, my careers, Disability, all of my operations, my wedding, and just yesterday, our 6 year wedding anniversary........needless to say he's been through it all with me. And he's still with me. He was my first pet that I ever had on my own starting in college. He means the world to me. I love him!

D...I am so glad you got the reference. Yep, I am feeling better today. Going to a friends house for our usual Saturday night gathering. There are several couples who try to get together most Saturday nights for Pot Luck and Fellowship. One of the women has IC. Who woulda thunk it that when Hubby and I joined this group, I would find an IC Sister in the bunch :hmm: ...Go figure.

Gotta let everyone who has been following the Bathroom Remodel Saga know...The grout is in!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: Before our guy left, he helped Hubby put the toilet back in it's place. We have to let the grout set for a few hours, but maybe tomorrow the toilet will be plumbed and working. :woohoo: You gotta love a working toilet. :biglaugh:

Sharon--glad to hear that you're feeling well enough to attend your Saturday night get-together; it sounds like a fun time!! :) And I can only imagine your surprise of finding someone else who can completely relate to IC.
:woohoo: for the grout!!!..hahahaha..I'm sure you cant wait to have your bathroom back--and in luxury form to boot! :D

Well, I put the battery in the Olympus and took it for a quick test-run. Figured I'd share my first pictures with you guys--who else, right???..:D
These were taken using the AUTO setting; figured might as well start with letting the camera do all the work! :)

Happy Birthday dg2901, Kara love the soft grey bunny pal Sidney. Sharon isn't it a blessing to find someone who understands what you're going thru! My URO asked a 4 year interstim patient to call me as a reference, to help answer any of my questions. It happen to be a fellow Town Clerk, about 15 miles away, who I spent many conferences with before I retired, and shared our birthdays. d, looks like the new toy works, WJC Jr, and Meatball look mighty fine. Sharon, glad you are feeling better, and a working toilet is the greatest gift. We lived in our new home, many years ago, for 3 months before we had power turned on, that means no water for the toilet. Ugh.

Kara--I'm just loving the new cameras. Havent decided which one I like best though..hahaha..They're pretty much identical except for the MP--the Olympus is 8.1 and the Canon 10.1. Unless a large print is going to be made, there really isnt much difference in the two sizes. I tell you though, SLR is a slap in the face having never used anything but point-and-shoot. They had the best of me there for a while.
Anymore fireworks planned? And I meant to ask, did you use a preset on your camera or did you manually set it up?

Hope everyones having a great day!

Diana,

We used the preset fireworks function for some of them and then my Husband used manual settings for the rest. I'll have to ask him what he used for the settings. I think we are going to go to the lake for the fourth tomorrow but not positive about it. I would love to come and shoot some photos of my kitties and my house with your cameras!!! That would be great. Are you going to do fireworks???

Here's my take for the day....

We've been into the city twice over the last couple of days. The first night we walked around from 1:30am til 4:00am, and last night from 1am-2:30am. It was so peaceful, and never mind how much fun we had messing with the cameras.

Sharon, Tracey, Mel, Suebee....:hi:

Theres a neighborhood July 4th celebration that I'm hoping to spend some time at today then I believe we're venturing to the oceanfront for fireworks. With any hope and a lot of luck, I'll have pics to post..haha..Hope everyone else has pics to share as well.

We are so new at this camera thing. For the fireworks my Husband used ISO80, a F Stop of around 2.7, and a shutter speed of around 3 seconds to 6 seconds. He's like to go to a faster shutter speed, a higher F Stop. We'll see.

Today it has been raining all darn day. I don't want to go to the lake. Our funds are so low today that I don't know if I will have enough money for batteries for the camera. I'm really depressed because of the not being able to work thing with being on disability. I want to make things better for us finacially.

Sorry.........at pity party for me today. I've slept all day. We get paid tomorrow so hopefully I will be feeling better. It's just so hard to literally live check to check.

Oh NOOOOOOO, Diana! Don't give up on your cameras yet! I have to admit the entire first year I had mine, I thought I had bought a lemon cuz I couldn't get reliable results. I kept mine in auto modes and frankly I could have done better with a point and shoot camera. Then I got on some yahoo lists for photography and those folks helped me get better and learn a lot.

To sum up the most important stuff I've learned in a few sentences:
1. Always check your white balance when you change conditions. If you go from shade to sun, indoors or outdoors, any change, make sure your white balance is set correctly. Sometimes Auto White Balance just doesn't cut it.

2. Always make sure your ISO is set right. Use the lowest ISO you can for the conditions and you will cut back on noisy photos.

3. I do best with the shutter priority setting (TV on the canon) -- make sure your shutter speed is always set higher than the lens you are using. If you have a 300mm lens, set the shutter speed up to 350 or higher. If you have your lens set at 75 set your shutter speed up over 100. Then look at your images and if they are too dark set the ISO up a little higher or use flash. I always set the fastest shutter speed I can get that will still let in enough light. Bracing against something when you shoot can hold the camera steadier and prevent blur too.

4. Use the histogram on your camera . . . scroll through the display modes until you find the little graph. That graph will tell you if your photos are too dark or too light. If the bulk of the graph is on the left - too dark and if the bulk (or any sharp spikes) are on the right then things are too light and you have "blown out" highlights.

5. Buy a good software editing program like Adobe Elements and you can turn a lot of "iffy" photos into pretty good ones. I use PhotoShop CS3 and believe me I've turned a lot of "pig's ears into silk purses" . It's easiest to correct photos that are a little too dark than if they are too light and blown out. If you get really bad blown out highlights there is nothing you can do about it, except cry and delete the photo!

I'm sure there is more hints but these are the most important things that have helped me.

PS. From what I've seen you have been getting some remarkable results already.

Janie,

Thanks for giving us all advice on our cameras. It's helpful. I'm still depressed today. It's been raining here. We did not go to the lake for the fireworks but I figure we had our share of fireworks over the weekend so it's ok.

Diana,

Some days with the cameras are just "pick it up later on" days. I have lots of days like that with lots of things. I just have to come back to it at a later time when I am refreshed and can try again. You'll get it. It's a work in progress with such a new piece of equipment. It will probably take me 5 years before I learn my camera. I love your photos so far!

Hey Mel:hi: :hi: Good to see you!

Maybe we'll see some better days ahead.

Hugs to you all.

Jane---thanks for the tips!! Much appreciated! :D

Kara--i got SO frustrated with the camera last night that I just crammed it into the bag and have no desire, at least for the time being, to pick it up again. Patience isnt a word I'd use to describe me so I have a feeling parting with the camera, should I ever pick it up again, is going to be quite routine. :loco:

Here's some incentive for ya....look at the wonderful "thing" I took a photo of Today..........I'm so hurting for some pretty subjects to take photos of. I swear to GOD it's bigger than my 25 pound cat!!! I took it from my window because I had no incentive to go out today other than to get the mail. I look foward to seeing your daily photos when you feel better about (Mr. Camera 2007) I liked your point and shoot photos.

D...Is that a Ground Hog? Colonial Williamsburg is one of those places I want to visit. I also want to go to Plymouth, MA to see the Plymouth Colony Site. I have at least one relative who came over on the Mayflower and there is a replica of his house built where his house was supposed to have stood back in the 1600s.

Sharon--Williamsburg is such a neat area. As is Jamestown and Yorktown--to think of all the history that happened there is a bit mind-boggling. If you ever want a relaxing, peaceful and educational vacation Williamsburg is it.
Like you, I'd like to visit Plymouth as well. It would be neat for you to be able to see the relatives home and learn about life back then! My closest friend's mom's family came over on the Mayflower--her ancestors are the Carters. It would be so cool if you could make those trips one day. :)

Here are a few more I took in Williamsburg. These were taken along Duke of Gloucester Street....

Diana,
I found this which explains it better than I can:

"Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens"

Kenko makes extension tubes for our Canon cameras. I'm hoping to add it to the macro lens I just bought and get some REALLY up close and personal bug shots!! LOL

Loved your restroom shot! Where was that taken?

Kara,

I love the deer nest. I have never seen one. I had the priviledge in the past to have the vet. here call if they got in an orphaned deer. One tiny just walked up to my husband and cried. My poodle cleaned it off. It was new born. The mom was killed when a tree fell while some men were cutting wood. I fed him with a bottle and walked him with a leash. We did fine for a while, he slept in our fireplace and woke me up once a night at my bedside nudging me for a bottle. I was so lazy, I already had it beside the bed. One night he got into our bed and peed on my husbands side. He had to go outside after that. his name was buck. Later we raised a little doe named Hannah Elizabeth. They were so precious. thanks for reminding me of a good time when I was well or better anyway. I wanted to be a vet. and couldn't due to circumstances but later raised a lot of orphaned rabbits , puppies. kittens, racoon and a squirrel 12 years old when he passed, and baby cockatiels. Those were the good old days.

Thanks again

Allen and I went to A Place called Beaver Lake Nature Center. We decided to hike the trails. We walked a trail called the Three Meadows. We saw daisies and other wild flowers that danced on the warm breeze. We also walked through a Bog Trail. This is where we saw the most wildlife. They had yellow warbles and insect eating pitcher plants. We also walked in pine meadows, woodlands, hemlock hollows, the deep woods, and also skirted the edge of the lake. The photos speak for themselves but the experience was more than I can write about. It was a great day, one I wish to always remember.

I will post some of the photos here and the rest of them will be on my photocucket. http://s142.photobucket.com/albums/r115/Karalynnree/?start=all Thank you for letting me share our experience with you!

Here's a few more from our outing. I am so glad I was having a pain free day. I could NOT WAIT to come home and show you these photos. We talked about how exciting it would be to add these to all of our summer photos that we've all taken so far. I wish we could have all been out there together with all of our cameras. We would have come up with some great shots.

Diana,

I'm so happy to see you back. I love your cameras, BOTH of them! Your Dog has WONDERFUL TASTE!!! I love Starbucks iced mocha lattes (decaf) I will save some for your Dog the next time I go for one.

Janie,

We talked about your macro lens a lot yesterday and thought of you as we took many of the close ups. Wishing you had been there for it.

JJ,

I'm glad that we brought back some good memories of your life. You will always be wonderful with animals. It's in your heart, no matter how sick you are. I too am an animal lover. My bunny is now 12 years old.

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion and even moreso SEEING your results with them. :D

The bathroom picture (had to upload to Webshots as Photobucket wasnt cooperating with me last night!.grrr!) was taken last weekend at the outlet shops in Williamsburg. We specifically parked at that end of the shopping center for the benefit of having a restroom nearby---imagine my frustration when seeing plywood and a padlock! Fortunately the customer service area is just around the corner complete with lovely restrooms! :D

Kara--lovely, lovely pictures!! Looks like you and the husband had a wonderful time!! I'm still taken by just how close you were to baby "Jack"!

Diana,

I did venture to flicker and I actually HATED it. I don't even remember my password because I stopped using it a year ago. I so far like photocuket the best. The only thing about photobucket that kinda sucks is that you have to purchase the pro bucket to do anything cool with music and large slideshows and such. I also am not a fan of myspace. It's so hard to use for photo stuff.

Kara---I'm a Flickr addict..hahaha..I've been known to spend hours at a time browsing through there. Although now I've got enough contacts and groups that browsing is pretty much limited to those.
Flickr used to be the easiest host site for sharing pictures. It was several months ago that they changed their sharing format. I now prefer Photobucket for sharing purposes.
Funny you should mention Myspace..while I've had an account for close to 2 years, I've just recently started using it to keep in touch with friends. Photobucket is compatible with Myspace, meaning that anything you have on Photobucket can be easily posted onto a Myspace page.

When I was growing up Mugger and Smugly were my brothers. Seriously. I just had a sister and we always wanted brothers but they ended up being four legged instead. It didn't matter whe loved them with all of our hearts. Mugger was born before I was and he was with me for 14 years.

Kara--Photobucket has been acting strangely with me as well. Its been taking forever to get a picture to upload the last couple of days. I did, however have success with it just a few minutes ago, so perhaps whatever maintenance they were doing is complete now....?
Other sites that you might consider checking out (besides Flickr.hahaha) are Webshots, SmugMug, Yahoo photos, Shutterfly...I think Walmart and Ritz Camera also allow file sharing--dont quote me on that though......thats all I can think of right off hand.
Hopefully Jane will see this post and put her 2 cents worth in since she's very into her photography. She'll know all the sites, I'm sure..:)

I love the cherries. I'm a night person by nature so I like to see night time shots. Pretty Cool.

I joined a photo group here where I live but they are WAYYYY Professional. They are actually going to Bever Lake on the 18th. I'm going to go and see if I can learn something. Maybe just to meet some new people. We'll see what kind of photos I come up with. I'm kinda scared.

I wonder if it will be hard to transfer all of my photos to a new site. I wish there was a way to do the whole thing at once.

I still can't get in...............GRRRRRRRRRRRRR I guess I will have to look into the other sites.

Kara--thats exciting to hear that you've joined a local photo group! :woohoo: I'm sure you'll learn lots of useful and nest tips and tricks! You have to promise to share all your valuable information though :D..:help: Cant wait to see the pics!!

The picture of the cherries was taken this morning. I was playing around with settings. That particular picture was taken with settings: 55mm; 1/100 exposure; aperture f/5.6; ISO 400. Its blurry because I didnt have my glasses on. :)

Heres another picture of the cherries taken this morning as well with different settings..37mm; aperture f/5; 1/60 exposure; 400 ISO.....

I like the 2nd Cherry photo better. I am having a real painful day (a period/fibro day). I can't move. Allen has to do some shopping for us as I am stuck but he doesn't mind. I'm not going to mess with moving my photos today. I just hope the bucket goes back up by tomorrow. I would throw up a photo in here but I have no idea how to do it without using bucket.

I will share what I learn from that group. I told them that I dont have anything exciting and that I am really new at this whole thing.

I was going to go to the library today to return and get some new books but I am in too much pain to do that.

What a bummer. Do you have any flowers. That could brighten the mood.

Sorry I am in such a slump today.

Kara,
My photos like the rose and ant photos were linked from SmugMug. I really like SmugMug. It is not free but if you decide to join you can get a 5 dollar off coupon from my smugmug site (IM me and I'll send the link):

PhotoBucket is the only other one I use to link photos but since I've had the smugmug account I haven't been doing it as much. I kind of like Photobucket's clickable thumbnails though.

Diana, I got a BIG kick out of that wash me car photo!

Hope everyone feels pretty good tomorrow.

dg2901

Waves--do you want to know how to attach a photo in an email, or how to post a picture on here?

Email--once you've got the body of the email open, you go to "attach" or "insert" file (the icon generally looks like a paper clip). Browse your computer to the file that contains your pictures; select the file you want to attach. Repeat this process until all the files you want to send is chosen. Send the email.

To post a picture on here you first need to have your pictures uploaded to a picture hosting site such as Photobucket, Webshots, SmugMug, etc.
Depending on which site you're using as a host will depend on how exactly to proceed. Let us know which site you're using and one of us can then instruct you further. :)

D...What do the initials WJC stand for? I'm with Kara...I like Cherries # 2. Also love all the flowers. Especially #1. Oh and of course, Meatball looks good.

Tig...Love the Glam Shots.

Janie and D...I'm right here. Just being lazy. My mom used to tell me that I was born tired and never got rested up. :lmao:

Janie...Those pics of the roses, moth and ants are great. Isn't all the rain we are finally getting wonderful. I hope we get some more tonight.

Kara...Sorry today is not the best. You asked for flowers...ta da!!!

This is one of my Crape Myrtle Bushes. It also shows blue sky which we have not seen around here for a couple of days thanks to some much needed rain.

Waves---getting them from your digital camera to your computer should be just a matter of attaching your camera and selecting your upload or transfer option (each camera is different).
Getting them into a post does require having them hosted on a website such as the ones I listed. Thats simply a matter of registering with the site, then uploading the pictures.
Does this help?..if you need more specifics dont hesitate to ask. We'd love for you to share your pics so we'll do all we can to help get you started. It sounds more involved than it actually is. :)

Kara---I'm not having any trouble with Photobucket today. Hmmmmm, not sure whats happening on your end..:hmm: Are you not able to log on at all? Or is it just taking an unusually long time to upload? If its the latter, I was experiencing this yesterday and found that if I refreshed the page and started the upload over, it worked better.
Hope you're feeling better today!! :)

Sharon--WJC, is short for William Jefferson Clinton. Now, dont everyone start bashing me for this, especially those that are Republican--this is my cats chosen name and I have to live with him! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Kara--what interesting trees! Is that first one uprooted? The 2nd tree pic looks like the perfect place for little critters to retreat. :) Now, regarding your squirrel picture--that was the whole reason behind me venturing to the park yesterday, to get some squirrel pics for a friend. Do you think there was one squirrel to be found??????..nope!..hahaha.
That park is straight up my street approximately a mile--not far at all. :)
And I'm glad someone likes my kitty's name..hahaha..Needless to say, I take the brunt of some rather odd/nasty comments from people every now and then. :tsk:

Daphne--I must say that you have quite the view!! Gorgeous!! :) Glad that you've joined us over here and hope you become a regular..:)

Daphne,

What a beautiful view. You must never want to leave your house! Being around water is my passion. I would love to some day wake up that way.

Diana,

That fountain picture is great! I have one in my yard. I think I have a photo of it somewhere I will have to look.

Tomorrow night I signed up to go to a horse show for photo taking. If I am well enough we wont go until 6:00PM. It's at the fairgrounds down the road from me so it's not too far. I wan't going to go because I am not really interested in horses but maybe someone else will be. I also need to learn the camera and this will give me some time with it. I'm really nervous and feel like just using the automatic button because I dont want to hold everyone up. I may end up doing that. I could still come up with something nice that way.

Give WJC and Meatball a kiss and hug for me. Sweet Dreams.

Kara---lovely fountain view! Like you, I love to be around the water; good thing as this area is nothing but. :)
I think its great that you're venturing out to this horse show! Dont dare back out simply because you're a little unsure of the camera. its all a learning process and from my experience, photographers, be it professional, intermediate or beginner, are very friendly people..and quite helpful. I'm not sure what exactly you're nervous about with your camera, however if its something in particular (settings, how to, etc), dont hesitate to do an online search for help/explanations/etc.
I'll bet you'll have lots of great pics to share! :) And Jane will be thrilled as she's a horse lover if memory serves me correctly. :)

Kara, can't wait to see the horse show photos. I love horses and used to be an avid rider and member of the "horsey set" LOL

No freaking out now guys, but here are some bug shots taken with my macro and the three extension tubes! The blue bug looked like a dragonfly but it was smaller. Somebody told me it was a "damsel fly"

I'm very tired and kind of having a bad pain night but I wanted to share a few of the photos that we got from the horse show.

The horse show was boring but I met most of the people in the group. They were so nice and we had a lot of fun even though our subjects were boring.

This needs explanation......We really wanted to see the cows because we were all sick of the horses but we had to walk really far to gt to them. Ok, so the sun was setting. This photo was taken on the backdrop of one of the cows. I think it was the best shot of the night!

I'll put up some more for tomorrows photos. I am beat and not feeling well. I will catch up with all of your photos and talk when I get up tomorrow.
Thank you for being so supportive Diana. I was sooooo nervous before I left. Everyone stayed in a group but took photos at thier own pace. It wasn't until the very end when I was alone with the leader of the group that I learned the most info for today. I am looking foward to the Bever Lake trip next Wed.

Sweet Dreams to you all!

Sharon--thanks for sparing me any "Clinton" comments..:biglaugh:
Your crepe myrtles remind me of my childhood. They were everywhere in my neighborhood. The house 2 doors down had a row of about 5 of them planted in their yard. I very rarily see them now. Thanks though to you for bringing back some lovely memories! :D

Jane---wow!!! all I can say is "is it live or is it Canon?!"

Kara--I'm so glad you went to that photogs meeting! I cant wait to 'hear' about all that you learned! And just think about how much fun, now that you're familiar with all that goes on, the trip to Bever Lake is going to be!
The close-up horse picture makes me laugh. Something about animals up close I find to be hilarious. And the shadow picture is cool! And the cows--who doesnt love a cow!?! :)

Today on the way home we witnessed a gorgeous sunset; guess who didnt have a camera with them? :tsk: So, swung by the house, grabbed a camera and ventured to the river in hopes of catching the tail end of it. Unfortunately the sun had already gone too far below the horizon. However, I figured might as well take a picture anyway..haha..Excuse the clarity as my vision was way off (moreso than normal for me) and I couldnt focus clearly.

Sharon--yet another wonderful crepe myrtle memory! Love it! :) I'm going to have to venture to the nursery and find me a tree!
Regarding WJC's attitude..haha..for some reason he wanted to be outside during that storm (pic posted); he got a bit frightened of the thunder and instead of me rescueing him, I stuck a camera in his face..:lmao:

Kara--anxiously awaiting your more detailed report from the photog excursion yesterday..:) And perhaps more pics...?

Jane, Tracey, etc---:hi:

Now, I've spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out why my IPhoto wasnt allowing me to send certain pictures via email. After finally resolving to Apple's online support boards I realized that I had DELETED the original files last night while cleaning up what I thought were files I no longer needed--wrong! So when I attempted to email from IPhoto it wasnt able to recognize/find the original file thus the error icon I kept getting. And on that note, I'm mentally exhausted (doesnt take much!) so I'm going to retreat to a bed for awhile in hopes of being able to catch a short nap! :)

Hi Jane and Sharon. I have some pictures I need to post, but I will need to learn all over again how to do it. Maybe tomorrow, I will sit down and put my "thinking cap" on.

Sharon, I know I am not the Tracey that you were referring to, but I hope you have missed me too! I haven't been on the boards in quite a while. I have kind of kept up a little with Janie though. Don't know if I told you that I am working again. Totally out of the insurance field. I am doing another breeze through because I feel really sick. Migrane hit HARD! I am trying to rest today because Allen and I are going to the Sterling Renaissance Festival Tomorrow and I want to take lots of photos for you.

Janie My Husband is so moved by the close ups of the insects.

Diana I'm so glad you went back to get your camera for the sunset. I love the Elizabeth River shot. Who doesn't love the water and a sunset together with a birdge in it too. When I take animal photos, I often take them very close because I love to be near the face. It's a fetish or something I have with any animal.

Diana, Did I miss something? If so I am sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts are with you as you go through this difficult time. Your 2nd sunset shot was my favorite. I love the Color. Your Element must be fun to cruise around in.

Sharon Still looking foward to seeing more from you.

It was kind of hard because everything was moving so fast and there were so many people there. Each time I saw a good pic, someone would walk in front of me. We were with 4 other people so we also had to move with the crowd. I like taking photos when I'm not under pressure to move fast and keep moving. My Husband was practicing with a lot of the shots and they seemed awful grainy to me. Overall there were a few good ones and we had a GREAT time. I just wish I could have stood still long enough to get some really detailed photos.

We took so many, I could not pick.......

Here's a few photos from the Renaissance Festival.

It's raining and very dreary here today. I thought this photo would be good for a dreary day. It's very strange but also intriguing.

Jane--love that pic of the fly! I cant believe you were able to get close enough to it to photograph it. Perhaps flies in your neck of the woods are a bit more relaxed..hahaha..:). You have a good eye for being able to find all these creepy crawlies!! Keep 'em comin'! :)
Thanks for the thoughts regarding our recent loss.

Sharon--I found 2 crape myrtles yesterday at a house around the corner from me and didnt have my camera! I've made a mental note to photograph theses tomorrow! :)

Kara--looks like you had a wonderful time at the festival! And wow, 340 pics!! The picture of you is lovely. The ladies in those dresses--I think thats my favorite so far. :)
Thanks for your condolences as well.

Heres another sunset picture from the other night....

Red Sky at Night Sailors Delight. Red sky in Morning, Sailors take Warning. I hope the Sailors in your area enjoyed a beautiful day out on the water the day after that sunset.

Thinking of you and hoping you have a calm, peaceful night.

"Rememberance"

Taken on an island in Ontario, Canada. Location was an old church with a small grave yard in the front. The church was all boarded up, probably for many years. The sky was turning quite dark, which set up the mood for the picture.

Photoboy...Where was that picture taken and what is the story behind it?

Janie...I think you have won the title of "Bug Lady". Great shot. Hubby is loving the buggy pictures.

Kara...I am partial to the flowers. Beautiful color.

D...Stop it. You're killing me with all the great shots of the beautiful scenery you have so close at hand. :lmao: Is that the missing frog from Tracey's garden? Did you do some frog napping? Thanks for the Myrtle picture.

Speaking of Crape Myrtles...Here is the last one of the bunch:

This is a picture of the new sink in the Master Bath. Hubby raised the cabinet up to where it is almost to my waist. It is great because I don't have to bend to brush my teeth. He installed a new sink and made a drawer for the added area between the floor and bottom of the cabinet doors. The mirror, lights and faucet are new.

Photoboy--nice picture, and I'd have to agree about the darkening sky setting the mood.

Jane--I joined the Feminine Perspective. I'll definitely be checking it out later on tonight. :)..........Any recent bug/macro pics?

Sharon--I"ll give you a break of the "beautiful scenery" in this area..haha..Perhaps I should post a few pics of the not-so-beautiful scenery--shouldnt be hard to find! :help:
Regarding the frog and me possibly being a frog-napper; I promise this little guy is not the one missing from Traceys garden. Or if he turns out to be, know that he showed up here on his own free will! :lmao:
You're bathroom is coming along nicely! I love all the new fixtures! Is it completely finished now?
And if you dont mind, could you send your handyman-husband to my house cause I need to have our kitchen sink raised. What time shall I expect him? You come along too!..:)

Photoboy...Thank you for the information. It is a great picture. I love old grave yards. You can find some very interesting history in them.

D...No, the bath is not finished yet. Hubby needs to seal and polish the Marble in the shower. I am going to the cabin for a couple of days with girl friends and he is staying at home. He will do it while I am gone in case the fumes would bother me.

We still have to install the doors when they arrive. They have been ordered from a company that makes them according to our measurements. It will probably be another 3 to 4 weeks before they are in. They will be frame-less double french doors that will open into the shower or out into the bathroom.

This has been a long process and we still have another bathroom to go. At least this other one is one that we don't usually use. We have had to use it while working on the Master bath.

Hubby said that he would be happy to come do the work but he is very expensive. :lmao:

Diana,
I love the little guy. Does he have a name. Oh HE is so precious!!

Janie,
Thanks for the compliments.

Sharon,
The new sink and mirror above the sink are stunning. I can't wait to see the shower when it's done. Of and of course the toilet.

Photoboy There is something absolutely fascinating about cemetaries and grave sites. In a respectful way though....

Sharon--just how expensive is your husband?..hahaha..I'm good for about $3.84 and maybe a cold drink..:D
I'm sure you'll be glad when its all finished. Even when a remodel goes smoothly (i'm assuming yours has) its still a bit of an inconvenience, I'm sure.

Kara--no, the little frog hasnt been named..haha..any suggestions?
Your little Justin looks like he's quite the people kitty; Very cute picture!! :) :cat:

Heres another picture of my frog friend. Kevin took it last night; he was laid out on the ground right in the frogs face trying to get him to pose on command..hahaha...

Thank you all for your wonderful comments regarding my picture. I simply adore all of your pictures as well. Photography has always a source of therapy for me since I was diagnosed with IC in 2002. If I'm going through tough time I will pack up my photography gear and head out for the day. Usually it's the country side or somewhere near water. It lets all my pain and worries go away for a while.

Kara, I have to admire you for all your strength and courage. You've been through so much. I don't know how you do it, but I think you really love life and that gives you your strength. May God continue to give you strength
and keep you in his care. There are many people on this site whom, I really admire all their strength and courage.

This picture was taken in Northern Ontario, Canada, during a hike. Well I made a new friend during my hike. Well he looked at me and I looked at him. We just stood there a stared at each other. Well he must have thought I was Mr. Ranger. I thought he may be Boobo. I figured I better take the photo before Yogi showed up. I took the photo with my digital SLR with a 300mm lens. I didn't want to get too close. The telephoto lens really helped with that.

Have a great day!

Photoboy,

Thanks for the kind words. I too would love to see a close up of that bear.

Diana,

I'd be happy to help you name your little green man if you wish.

Janie,

For some reason I could not view the slideshow. I will ask my Husband for help later tonight.

I'm going to meet with my Photography Group tomorrow at Bever Lake. It's supposed to rain and my camera is not waterproof. Any suggestions on keeping it dry when it starts to really pour. I have an umbrella and two ponchos. It will be a muddy mess but I bet there will be some awesome photos after the rain.

Waves---Photobucket is free, as is Webshots. You simply log onto their site and set up an account. Once the pictures are uploaded to the host site, they can be linked/copied to here.

Hope that helped.

Thank you all for the compliments regarding the bear picture. Yes I used a 300mm lens for that one as well.

Kara, I'm not sure what camera you have, but I've built a raincoat for my camera and it works well on rainy days. It doesn't cost much to make.

Here is the link for the directions. Hope this helps.

Today was a bad day. Before we started shooting, I backed my car into a tree at 6:30 in the morning. The Damage is more than I can handle. This car is a 2006 and it's been through the ringer already. This time it was ALL my fault and I feel like a dumb idiot for doing it and costing myself money that I don't have.............but it has to be fixed. It gets estimated next week. I am sick over this. I hope I wake up tomorrow feeling a little better. I am just so mad at myself.

As for taking photos, I really wanted to go home and start the insurance process and get some estimates.........I was with some really amazing photographers that were willing to teach me a LOT. However, I was distracted and didn't say much the whole time, which is not like me. When it was over the lead for the group asked me if I was ok and I just started to cry. Another member started calling people he knew that could help me with fixing it. They are very nice people and I feel so bad that I was not "present" and in the moment today.

Another day.........not every shoot will be what you want it to be, I guess. I have to go at it that way.

Here's the only photos I picked:
