Has anyone ever had ablation of the uterus? I met with my Gyno last week who recommended this surgery option for me and my heavy periods. A friend of mine said this really helped her IC symptoms a lot.

Thermal ablation is supposed to be good for heavy periods, but not guantee it will help your IC, we all are different in what works for us. You would only want to do this if you plan on not having any childred, the procdure cannot be undone. What ablation dose is burn your uteris.

I had a uterine oblation for heavy bleeding due to fibroids. It worked for about 10 years, then the lining grew back (about a 10% chance). It was a Godsend for me as I was so sick of the sight and smell of blood, and being anemic. It did not effect my bladder.
Later on when I started dripping again I had a Mirena IUD installed which is medicated with a progestin and it stopped the dripping after about 4 months.
Mirena is a BC device and is used for HRT and bleeding disorders.

I had the endometrial ablation procedure called NovaSure last March. I was a healthy 45 year old before the procedure. My only problem was seriously heavy periods. I woke up after it with an extreme urgency to pee and vaginal burning. I woke up with IC! My vaginal pain was awful and 3 weeks after the procedure my gyn found I had a vaginal abscess (bad infection). I was treated with antibiotics right after the procedure (preventative) and once the abscess appeared but my vaginal pain has never gone away. How this happened I have no idea but honestly I had no IC symptoms before that. The ablation did work and I now have a very light period of 2-3 days. My gyn doesn't believe my IC symptoms started right after NovaSure and said he's never had any complications. I don't mean to scare you but feel a need to tell my story since you asked. Good luck with whatever you decide...Sue
