Mom of twins here. Bladder inf. on and off since age 15. Doctors mostly threw atibiotics at me even if the culture came back normal, "back in the day". I was finally diagnosed with IC at age 40. One twin, age 11, now has IC also. Boy was that a challenge trying to get the doctor to look into the possibility that she also had IC. All I heard was "we dont normally see this in children so young". Finally he did a cystogram and distention and found that she did have IC. He suggested a potassium test for her but I have read that the results, either way, are inconclusive. It is supposed to be painfull and the bladder distention was torture for her as it was. Anyone else experienced major pain after the distention? We are both on Elmiron. I also take Deterol. Recently a chiropractor suggested "Oil of Oregano". Last week my pain was so bad I was taking Ibuprofen 4 times a day. Now after trying the Oil of Oregano,(50mg) two to three times a day, I am nearly pain free. The pain is at least tollerable. The sense of urgency is a bit greater, but the daily bothersome pain is almost gone. I will be starting my daughter on it as well as the ibuprofen and Tylenol 3 the doctor gave her do not touch her pain level. Anyone have a child close to this age with IC? I would love for my daughter to know she is not the only child with IC.

Hello and :welcome: to both of you..

As far as pain with the distention there are alot of people who have pain afterwards so I would say this is pretty normal..

You ask if any one on the boards has young children who have IC I believe there are a few on here that do, maybe a little bit older but im sure they would chat with your daughter and let her know she is not alone..
It must be so hard for you seeing your daughter go through the same pain you experience..Well again welcome to the boards and im sure some others will chime in:smile tee

I know there is at least one other mother who posts about her 12-year-old with IC.

By the way, ibuprofen is a problem for a lot of people with IC. I know it causes me to flare horribly.

Thank you for the welcome. Yes, it's hard to see my daughter go through this. Both my children are honor roll students and very well behaved for their age. People used to visit our table before they left when we ate in a restaurant, just to tell me that they wish all children were as well behaved. Every day my daughter says, "I wish I just had one day to not have the pain". She also has some trouble with a twisted tibea bone in her leg. Doctors do not want to do anything till she is done growing. It does not cause her pain, but it affects the way she walks and runs. On the up side,,,being as I have the IC too, I can empathize with the pain and help others around her understand, so she can lead as normal a life as possible. Next year she will be going into Jr. High. I am planning a meeting with the Principle and the three teachers she will have, to explain her condition and see if anyone has any ideas on how to make her days there easier. Last year she missed some school because of the pain and appointments. She will need more time in the restroom and possibly pain killers throughout the day. Any suggestions anyone has on this issue would be appreciated too. Hey, by the way, how do you guys get your history of meds and such at the bottom of your messages? I am a newbie and have not figured it out yet.
