My uro started me on Vesicare 5/16/07. I have been on it a week and my frequency has diminished from every hour to every two to three hours except after I have a bowel movement. Anyway, after 6 days, my stomach started getting a lot of gas. And, I am constipated after being on Vesicare.

What do IC patients take for constipation problems that don't bother IC?

Milk of Magnesia, store brand works just as good as brand name.

I'm on Vesicare as well, and noticed it too, but after a day or 2 I'll have a bowel movement. (mainly due to having IBS-D)--no fun. Other than that, Vesicare is a wonder drug for me! I use to go at night 6-7times now its 1 maybe 2 times. During the day 6? Of course, if I'm in a flare, all of this changes.

I know this sound weird, but when I have a bowel movement, I always have to pee within 10 minutes whether or not I am constipated. Anyone else like this?

Mary,

Vesicare doesn't help with your burning, right? I had asked my uro if it was possible that I have VV as well, he really didn't respond. I asked him again and he said maybe Vesicare would help that too. I highly doubt that. I don't think the labia burning is all IC related. I think this is a gyno issue yet I have brought this up to my primary care doc. He had given me a cream with steroids but it doesn't help.

Have you been on Detrol LA as well? I tried it and it made me so dry mouth it bothered me.

Thanks to all.

I really don't have a lot of burning, so I can't help you out there.
I have tried Detrol-LA, Flomax; and a handful of others, but they had side effects that I couldn't take. This is the first one that has really helped me, and it only took a handful of days to start showing any improvement; been on it for about 3 months now.

Mary,

What were the side effects from detrol la that stopped you from continuing it? What side effects do you have from Vesicare? I agree, Vesicare stopped the frequency alot better than detrol la.

Thanks.

on the vesicare...I was also on that and it REALLY helped me with the frequency....but after about 2 days....when I had the urge to go....I couldn't. It was strange. I would have to sit there and really think about it. After a full week I just called the doc and told them, and now i'm on something new.

But best wishes for you on the vesicare

Staci,

What type of bladder medication for frequency are you on now? I know what you mean by your feeling of having to pee but nothing comes out. I had that a couple of times already. It is weird.

Bunny-

Sorry I sure did forget to put that in there. lol lol Sanctura is what its called.

Honestly I have only taken it for a few days. I'm kinda scared/nervous about taking it. I'm a stay at home mom right now and the frequency to me is not a huge issue. I mean yes I have to void about 20x's a day or more but I can go when I need to. The only time I have an issue is when I'm not at home you know. Which really right now is not that much.

I'm going to talk to my uro about the Lyrica that I'm taking (my pain doc gave to me) I have seen on threads here about icers who say that it has helped them with freqency. I have been taking it for almost a month, I have not noticed the help with the frequency.....but at the same time I'm not taking it 2x's a day. I can only take it at night, cause it makes me so tired and loopy. But the way the pain doc explained it to me was we have to get it to a baseline and then I might see some improvement in my pain.

I really hate having all these meds to take and the side effects. I feel like a science project sometimes. Sorry to just go on.

I hope you have success with the med. For the buring....have you tried AZO they are OTC....ur voiding will turn orange but that helps me!!

Is Sanctura the brand name? 20 times a day is alot and if you were working, it makes it all the worse. I work part time. I was going every 45 minutes to an hour. Since being on Vesicare, I last went today at 7:30 am and here it is almost 11:00 am. So there has been a dramatic improvement. I am worried about the blurry vision. I have been very gasey and at work it means having to go into the restroom even if I don't need to use it. I never know who will walk into my office and be blown away by the fumes.

I still have burning going on though and it isn't the urethra; it is the labias.

Bunny: With the Detrol-La I had mainly the dry mouth, plus it didn't help me at all. Most of the other meds that the doctors put me on didn't help either. This is the only one (Vesicare) that helps. the only thing is, like Stacy has said, there are times, that I have the urge to go to the bathroom and I just sit there and do nothing!!

Hey Bunny:

Yes that is the brand name for it Sanctura. I think 20 times is alot also but being at home....it really doesn't bother me like it would if I was working u know...out side the home. Well I do work a lil...I'm a photographer, but when I have a session or a wedding I take potty breaks when possible.

I'm sorry about the buring u r having, I have never had that type, just major itching. For that I use Summer's eve wash, cause I found out years ago that I'm allergic to soap, bubble stuff, colgan. It has cut down on my yeast and bact infections. No they have not stopped cause of course you can't stop them, but it is WAY better then when I was a teenager. I used to get them all the time. every month I believe.

Take care and PM me if you want any time!!

I just counted how many restroom trips I had on a regular work day. 8 plus 6 at home. That is 14 times. Today in the morning, I didn't have to go until 3 hours. I was trying to get in my water for the day. I had to go at 2pm then 45 minutes later, I had to go again.

Have any of you asked the doctor why you have the urge to go but nothing comes out while being on Vesicare? I go back to my uro next month.

Has anyone else had the issue when you use the restroom 2-3 hours, then you have to go again in another hour while on Vesicare? The every 2 hour trips to the restroom aren't consistent for me. I went to the movies and had to use the restroom at 3pm and then 5pm. No sooner I was out, I already had to go at 5:45pm.

Thanks.

Some medications can cause more urgency and frequency for some IC patients. It’s important to talk to the doctor that is having you take the medication. You may want to start keeping a journal of your symptoms. That way you and your doctor can talk about it and make any changes or switch you to a different medication if needed.

I hope you get down to the bottom of this and get some relief soon!

Good Luck to you:)

Kara,

Were you dx with severe IC in the beginning?

Keeping a log sounds good.

I had End Stage, Refractory, Interstitial Cytitis. After taking care of my IC symptoms, they found that I also have the Pudendal Nerve Entapment. They are very separate things. Neither one caused the other to happen.

It sounds like a lot is going on too. Today, I have had horrible burning again. I have been on Vesicare for two weeks and am still going every hour to an hour and a half. I need to call 2 gyno offices tomorrow and find out if the dr are female. I don't see how the uro can say my bladder is better when I am still experiencing such discomfort to the point I want to cry.

That's what Detrol LA did to me. I couldn't urinate for over twelve hours (I have an overactive bladder AND retention) and almost had to be hospitalized. I wish I wasn't so scared to try another over active bladder med, but so few people have overactive bladder and retention I've never been able to find anyone who could give me good advice.

Hope everything works out for you!
