I know some people have issues with onions... and since these are onion related, are they not tolerated? I'm trying to find ways to flavor my food that will not make sick. Thanks!

Are you especially food sensitive? If not, then you could probably handle them cooked. I can eat both fresh and cooked onions of all types, but cooked seems like they would be less bothersome, don't you think, to start with?

Well, I don't know if I'm really food sensitive. I am trying to go as bland as possible to let my bladder calm down, but oatmeal or couscous with olive oil are getting old. A friend is putting together some meal ideas for me and showing me how to cook and asked about shallots because onions were a maybe. I do like onions cooked (I never eat them raw), so maybe I could try them at this point? My bladder isn't happy right now, so I'd hate to make it worse...

Are you talking about real shallots, or the smaller green onions that you chop for chives, sometimes people call those shallots Anyway, the real shallots aren't usually eaten raw, and all onions sweeten up when cooked, I would say give it a try in moderation to start because cooked onions are so tasty! You could even sautee them and add them to your cous cous for extra flavor. Cous cous can get old quick, unless you add some things to make it more flavorful....I add fresh or dry herbs, sauteed (in olive oil) onions and celery, frozen peas, and use an organic chicken broth instad of water when I make cous cous. ANd top it with a nonfat yoghurt sauce, also seasoned with herbs. Makes it much less boring. I can eat yoghurt in moderation, if I accompany it with another food, like cous cous, and a protein....garbanzo beans, grilled or broiled chicken, fish, beef, venison, etc.

Thanks for the recommendations! Maybe I will give onion a try if they are completely cooked! That is the only thing off the "usually ok list", so if I have a problem, I should know what is the problem.
