Ouch!! I thought the flare that had me out of work Monday and Tuesday was easying up and I guess it kind of is. Instead of having constant pain I am now getting these horrible stabbing pains in my bladder. Like someone is going at it with an ice pick or knitting needle. I have it for a couple seconds or a minute and then it's gone. It really hurts. I really don't want to take my vicoden because I'm at work and it kinda makes me loopy but lord does it hurt. How many of you get this feeling and what do you do to help it go away? Thanks

Christine
What you are feeling is probably bladder spasms.. Mine feel like a stabbing pain like contractions sort of.. Only thing that helps is a anti spasm medicine like peridium or uristat, I take Ulmar-T and it works really well when my bladder is kicking the crap out of me...(((((((hugs))))))))))

Christine, I hate to stab at medical possiblities but this sounds like maybe more then a bladder spasm. Have you ever had kidney stones before? You may want to call your Dr on this one and seek some more advice. Hope you feel better soon.

Ronda,
I'm actually taking Urelle which is supposed to have an anti spasm med in it. It was just time to take another dose so I guess I'll see if that helps.
Leslie,
Ugh! I can't stand the thought of something else being wrong with me. I have never had kidney stones that I'm aware of. If it keeps up I'll give the uro's office a call and see what they say.

Chrsitine,

I was thinking kidney stones to.. It feels like someone is twisting a knife in you.. But if you are real still the pain usually is not that bad.. Is this the way you feel or is it a constant pain?

I get those stabbing pains too, and I have a kidney stone. hmmmmm I also thought they were from bladder spasms from reading the posts on ICN, but now with these new posts.... I am so confused. I guess I have to get rid of the stone, then see if I still get those stabbing pains.

I'm glad you are feeling well enough to go back to work.

It's a stabbing feeling like someone is stabbing me with a knitting needle and then it goes away. I can get them at 30 second intervals up to a couple of minutes in between them. They are not fun that's for sure. I took one of my vicoden and it really hasn't lessened the pain at all. That kind of makes me nervous but hopefully it's nothing. I guess I'll call the uro's office and ask about it if I don't feel better by tomorrow. I just hate the thought that there is something else wrong with me. I literally have had one documented UTI in my life and no other urinary problems other than the IC.

Hi Christine.
I also get the stabbing pains in my bladder from time to time. It does actually feel like someone is poking a knife inside my bladder. I am sure if it is a spasm or not. I have heard that spasms feel more like a pressure like pain, somewhat like a charlie horse but in the bladder. It could also be a muscle in the pelvic area that is acting up. I use to get this stabbing feeling years ago, but only once in a blue moon, and this was way before I ever had IC. It would last about 5 minutes and it would go away. I get it from time to time. Very painful. I think I will mention it to my urogyne next time I see him.
I hope you feel better soon.
Jen

Thanks Cindy, I just took 2 vicoden since the one I took early this afternoon didn't really do anything so that along with the Elavil and I should be knocked out pretty good in a little while. I'll probably call the uro's office to mention it to them and see what they say but I really can't miss anymore work, I have almost no paid time off anymore and I was out all day Monday and Tuesday. I know my boss will be understanding, she always is but I feel so horrible when I have to leave work or not come in.
