First Fireworks

Background: We live just barely outside the city limits of Lancaster City. Not long after we bought our house the city started building a stadium. Lancaster got a minor league baseball team. The people here in the city seem to be thrilled about it. I on the other hand have not. I live on a one way street which happens to be one of the only ways out of my neighborhood. We are sooo close to the ballpark that all of the people park in our area and then spend about an hour trying to get out after the games. In addition to this after most night games on the weekend they have fireworks. I love fireworks but after hearing them time after time when you want to be sleeping, they are not so fun anymore.
Anyway, last night they had fireworks after the game. Griffin last year was always in bed when the fireworks were going off. Yesterday though he took a late nap and was still awake when they started. You can go out into our backyard and see them perfectly.
We took him out back so he could see them. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. I don't think I have ever seen him so happy :smile tee He was in total awe and I thought his jaw was going to hit the floor. He kept on saying "So excited more fireworks" I so love it when they get to experience something for the first time like that, it's almost like you are experincing it for the first time again with them. It was so awesome. He told me he's going to tell his Granny (my mom) about it today when we call her, hehe

How fun! I bet he did have a blast. Colten has always been petrified of fireworks. I hope this year is different so he can enjoy them from outside instead of in the house or the van windows.

LOL, this is the first time that he had seen them at all, all the times last year he was in bed when they were doing the fireworks. That was the first thing my mom asked if he was scared of the noise. Nope, not at all, the puppy is another story though. I thought we were going to have claw marks in the concrete steps from how fast she was trying to get back inside, lol

How cute! Ok, here's my fireworks story: Our town often puts on fireworks for New Years, at midnight. We can see them from our front lawn, easily, they're only a couple of blocks away and they are LOUD. My daughter, age 12 mind you, invariably falls asleep before midnight and sleeps right through the fireworks, even though they are on the same side of the house as her bedroom. A lot of other swimmers' parents say the same; their kids are so worn out most of the time, they could sleep through cannon fire in their bedrooms, LOL.

But the dogs... I don't think they'll ever get used to them. We have to crate the poor things ahead of time.

It was so much fun, I wish I would have thought to grab the video camera and tape it. I'll have plenty of other chances this summer though with all of the fireworks that they do at the ballpark. He kept on thanking us for the fireworks like he thought that we made them or something, hehe

At that age, they think you make the sun rise and set! Enjoy it. It ends so fast...

Oh I know Carolyn, I have three much older step children and they seem to think we're stupid so I know how quickly it ends. I love this age so much, he is so cute and so much fun! He also went to a local carnival on Friday night and rode on his first ride "all on his own" it was soooo cute, I took pictures on my cell phone but not on my camera.
