For the past few days the pain in my vulva, urethral area has been so bad to the point that I can hardly sit down. It is so bad this morning and I want to sit with my legs spread apart, which I can't really do in this constricting office chair! Today the burning has started to come back and my shooting pain that I get down my leg sometimes is back, which I think is from my Endometriosis. I am going to my Urologist on Tuesday to rule out Vulvodynia, but I don't know how I will last until then! Sorry to vent, I just needed to get it out.

Hillary,
I wish I could offer some help. I don't have this as part of my IC and don't know what to offer. I just hope you can get some help soon. I can send you a hug. grouphug

I am having the same pain as you are describing! I went to the doctor yesterday! She changed my pain med's but the pain only intensified last night! This morning it is my much better :) after a miserable evening! My doctor did test for Vulvodynia and ruled it out !! She did take some cultures and said she would get back to me today!
I'll let you know if I find anything out or if anything works for the pain!
I hope you get some relif soon and good luck with your appointment !
Kelly

Oh I want to thank all of you for all of your support! How did they do cultures for the vulvodynia? Was it with a Q-tip? I pray that you don't have that, and I hope that I don't have it either, it's hard enough dealing with the IC and Endo. I am so glad we all have each other to support and give advice! grouphug

Different doctors do it different ways. Some use the Q-tip but some diagnose on symptoms.

Isn't Vulvodynia treated pretty much the same way that IC is? Right now I am on Elmiron, Paxil Cr and Atarax, but I have only been on them for a week and a half. If I do have Vulvodynia can I expect to have the same treatment?

My gynecologist did the Q-tip test and also asked about my symptoms. I have vestibulitis, so it was easy to see the tender areas, because they were read, lesion-like areas. But not all of the pain I experienced with vulvodynia/vestibulitis was external.

The treatments I received for IC (Elmiron, Urocit-K, Detrol LA) as well as for vulvodynia (Elavil, continuous birth control, calcium citrate) have kept my symptoms pretty much under control. I think both treatments eventually helped provide relief for both conditions over time. But the treatments are not necessarily interchangeable, nor does one treatment apply for all types of patients.

Good luck!
