Atarax dosage

I was just wondering... for those of you on hydroxyzine, what is your dosage. My general doc put me on 25 mgs twice a day (my uro wouldn't give it), but I haven't really noticed a difference. Does this dose seem small?

I "started" on 1/2 a 25 mg then moved up to the full 25mg a month later. I was also taking Elavil. I'm going to try the hydrox. again along with nortryptline 25 mg. They just make me soooo tired and I don't seem to adjust. When you have a family it's hard to be so tired.

Years ago, I started with 25mg only at bedtime. Recently, my uro changed that to 50mg at bedtime. I definitely see an improvement during the nighttime with the increased dosage. :) When I am not flaring, I only get up once or twice a night with the the higher dose.

I take 25mg in the morning and 25mg at night.

I just take 25mg at night, although I have taken an extra in the morning at times (with doc's permission).

I take 75 mg, only at bedtime. I think a person's response to medication is highly individual. If you think it's helping or not helping, you are probably right. My doctor wanted me to stay at 50, but it wasn't helping much, so I asked to trial 75. Within a week I started sleeping through the night, and that was approximately 2 years ago. I've never had to increase the dose since then, but I can't take it in the daytime; too sleepy.

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes I feel isolated and not sure about the meds as I haven't been granted access to the IC specialist. I have decided that I can't take the morning dose - like many of you it makes me dopey. I think I will try taking that morning pill as well at night instead. I would love to visit the bathroom less at night!
