RN's or MED Folks: What the heck is this?

Hi guys

I went in this AM for my quarterly diabetes pop quiz...(hb1ac, cholesterol, etc..) I guess they also check something called CK...(some enzyme that is released from either the heart or skeletal muscle when you are having a heart attack of problems with skeletal muscle issues...they still are scratching their collective medical heads at my high RA level a couple weeks ago) So the "information nurse calls and tells me my CK is high, somewhat. normally between 20 and 200, mine was 470. I was reading that most people with problems like heart attacks were at 1200. and that it takes 18 hours to get to that point. I'm a little young for a heart attack. (oh yeah...the info nurse had no clue what the reading meant) So anyway, this leaves an issue with skeletal tissue which is more likely, if at all. That is auto immune related and I am becoming highly annoyed with these wierd things cropping up. They say if skeletal tissue it can be a # if things. Myocitosis, Muscular Dystropy, MS, being lazy, injuries, WHATEVER...AAARGH...I am sick of dis stuff.

Please let me know if you know if you know of this test....:help: I'm so tired of solving one problem and having anothe pop up, This is taking forever to clear up.

thanks Kara...you are so nice...Babs was very helpful..I didn't have a heart attack..ha, ha, ha,...as if...but figured out it was prob a rise in this enyzme because I have Fibro and trying to exercise. My belly hurts, had a flu bug so I haven't worked out in two days....See...I'm allergic to exercise...ha, ha, ha,....Oh,boy...I have the silleies...

Is there a change in Enzyme Levels if you have Fibro? I have no clue about how they actually diagnose it.

don't know exactly...But...from what Babs said (and she spent alot of time expaining to me..) the CK level goes up when muscle tissue is being damaged. Heart attacks, for example, will cause the CK level to go up, but an extraordinary amount and they bind to a certain marker..(I don't quite have this all down...we were both post night meds the other night) My nurse who called was very vague. She said I maybe had a heart attack. HUH? Anyway, I looked it up, which caused the original question. And when you have something that can cause muscle inflammation, or injury to muscle, the CK level for skeletal muscle can go up. Fibro fits. In addition, I had a hell of a work out 12 hours before the test. I did some actual running, then other aerobic stuff. Then spent timein the pool with my daughter. The pool has a resistance area (they call it the lazy river) and she and I spent about 20 mins chasing each other in this pool until I crawled to the hot tub. so, that could have done it...Who knows?

I am still getting used to this Fibro stuff. I've decided I don't like it very much. I had a good week. This last 3 days has sucked. I feel like someone has slammed me against a wall about 8 times, then stomped on my bladder for good measure. I'm trying to stretch but it hurts. My chiro, who usually helps me with this, has become very ill. I've posted he has bladder cancer. He is running a temp of 103 and has pneumonia. I talked with him yesterday and had to hold back my tears until I got off the phone. He sounded so sad. He said he is really looking at death now for the first time. I honestly don't know what I'll do without him. He has been a very special and unique friend for me through all the hardships I've had. He's been there when I've tried to hurt myself, stood up to my husband and told him to get his head on straight, and taught me alot about peace with myself. Maybe it is because it is the first person soooo close to me who is dying. though I don't think it gets any easier.
