Doctor prescribed Nortitriptyline???

Hi gals.
I just talked to my doctor and he prescribed to me nortityrptyline. I may have spelled this wrong. It is a cousin of elavil. Have any of you taken this med and it help your bladder pain? I am suppose to take 10mgs once a night to start. I am nervous. I worry about it bothering my stomach or causing urinary retention issues as I have heard these type meds can.

I used that for about 10 years before it started to lose its effectiveness. I had the standard problems common with tricyclics, with weight gain and dry mouth. I started out at 10 mg. a day and by the time I stopped taking it I was up to 100 mg.

Tonight is my last night of Elavil 10 mg. It was making me too hungry. I asked about which had less weight gaining side effects to the nurse who relayed to the uro. Lexapro or nortriptyline? I was given a prescription for 10 mg of nortriptyline. I know it is a 2nd generation medication compared to Elavil which is a 1st generation although I have no idea what that means.

Elavil never gave me a dry mouth.
